I'll be putting all the shims on the side opposite of the lip built into the arm. AtomicRex said it shouldn't make a difference.

Everytime I see an update Colin, I dread the day I start working on my FD
Like I said, I'm finally "off" this weekend, but I'm dragging you and your better half out on the boat one day ;) |

Any chance you know where I can buy an aluminum die grinding bit (a long one like the one you have for steel). To handle aluminum I read that it needs to be fluted so it doesnt clog, and to use dw40 as lube haha. I've got a sweet idea for my intake, and I'll be doing some heavy duty grinding on/in the UIM. Well, everything is now at the powdercoater, he's going to do all of the rear arms. I didn't do it on the front and went with paint because I'd heard bad things about aluminum becoming brittle, and thats not what i want suspension arms to be, but they assured me they can do it the right way.
Should have everything back in 2 weeks (he's on vacation next week). Then we'll see how well the painted arms in the front hold up once i start driving it. |
Brakes are done!

Also started hacking up the UIM today, will go strait to a 3" pipe with wiggins clamp to connect to the piping that goes to the intercooler. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0519.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0520.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0521.jpg |

Nice dude... REALLY nice. Shit, you got a lot more done today than I did. Thanks again for the help :icon_tup: |
Finally got around to cleaning the rear wheel wells, here is the aftermath:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0523.jpg Soooo much dirt, and yes, those are rocks (they were stuck on the lip behind the rear mudguard). |
I've got a small update, since I'm cleaning the underside of the car, I took off the muffler heat shield, and I'm cleaning that entire area and will eventually coat it with truck bed liner. The rear wheel wells, and area above the subframe will get the same treatment.
While the subframe is off being powdercoated, I decided to refurbish the heat shield: Before: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0535.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0536.jpg After Cleaning: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0538.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0537.jpg After Paint (not sure how the paint will hold up, but it will look cool for at least a little while) Exterior: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0540.jpg Interior (reflective haha) http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0539.jpg My front stoptech braided brake lines finally came in. The rear already has braided SS. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0534.jpg |
Finally made some more progress. Finished cleaning under the rear of the car, and sprayed it with the first coat of truck bed liner. One more coat tomorrow and I can bolt the subframe up.
My buddy came by and I lowered his new porsche. Yes, its the twin turbo V8, chipped and making over 500 hp and torque. (on the mid height setting in this pic) http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_1993.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_1990.jpg He also has a nice camera, so he took some pics of my car. Front wheel wells, pretty much done: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/_MG_2032.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/_MG_2034.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/_MG_2030.jpg Rear subframe powdercoated with suspension arms (I've installed most of the bushings). http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/_MG_2037.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/_MG_2042.jpg |
Made some good progress this weekend.
The rear is now all clean and sprayed: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0557.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0556.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0555.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0554.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0553.jpg Diff with new bushings: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0552.jpg The subframe and diff are reinstalled. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0559.jpg I also relocated the fuel filter. I'm using the stock bracket and filter. I just tapped 2 M8 holes in the rear of the subframe, and ran new hose. Now I just need to get the bracket powder coated. http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0550.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0551.jpg http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/IMG_0561.jpg |
