Before I track the car again, its getting slotted rotors and Carbotech pads. Wilwood pads suck giant floppy donkey dick!

sweet, because carbotechs are what I've been running since I swapped in the 4 pistons and I'm probably never going to use anything else... ever.

I'm a HUGE Carbotech fan...been running XP10s and XP8s in the FD for years now. Had them in my AW11 too. I used the Wilwood pads cause they came with the kit, I asked for the E-production pads. They don't feel as good on the track and absolutely suck on the street, in comparison to the XP10s.

TitaniumTT 05-20-2011 05:40 PM

Which compound are you running in the FD now? Cuz the lockup was quick! I need basically the weakest compound they have to give me the most modulation and highest rear bias.

I prefer XP10 front XP8 rear. In a non ABS system like you're running, either the XP10 or 8 will give you great modulation and excellent bite. 10 is good for the street and phenomenal once warmed up...8 is excellent for the street and doesn't dust as much. Don't stagger them on your setup, run the same pad between front and rear and you'll get the rear bias you're looking for.

This is true. How do you define done? I have a feeling it'll never be done. On the good side though, I didn't make that big purchase this weekend so I should be giving you a call early this week. Need to get moving on the stopping.

And when you get to the bottom of the driveway are we just going to keep PUSHING it back into the garage so you can roll outside and try the brakes again?:D

Meh, it kinda gets to me after a while..... no weekends during the winter... but there's no racing during the winter.... summers I work just about every weekend and most sundays there is a race somewhere... :banghead: I'm going to try to take the 5th off to get the brakes dialed in becuase there is no way I'm getting hte 18th off and those are the two auto-x's before LimeRock... WOOOOOO!!!

True... true.... my FC will never be done..... how about DRIVEABLE????? AT LEAST??? :smilielol5::rofl::lol::rofl::smilielol5:

Call... call away. I've got nothing but good news and a little tip that I knew about, but wish I had remembered before I used them...

2gslse 05-22-2011 08:58 PM

As of lately.... none!! What are you looking to get done?

maybe get you to do the pipework for the exhaust/intercooler and the fenderbraces or frame braces we talked about a long time ago. I am going to try to keep my A/C so the intercooler pipes may be tricky but won't know till it goes in the hole.

sequentially too?

I don't know never met the guy but will find out when I do.

I'd be curious to know for sure..........

We can definately work something out, just a matter of getting the timeline worked out.

My FC should be out of the garage in a week or 2, assuming I can start getting my ass up early enough to do some work before I have to go to work. THe Landi should be out in a few weeks as well.... I hope.... Colins Twin-Charged FD is coming in the next few weeks so we can haul the engine, repair the leaky pan, redo some plumbing, paint the bay, a few other things as well, the 'vert is going into the shop as soon as my FC is done so I can the process of re-doing the interior, rebuilding a turbo engine and swapping that in with an a2w intercooler...... Oh my... I need a clone or to get myself back on that, "I only need 4 hrs of sleep" kick again :smilielol5:

As long as we use one of our rotaries..... we've got the torque to do it

2gslse 05-22-2011 09:19 PM

What turbo you using on the vert? when is the FD project?

We can definately work something out, just a matter of getting the timeline worked out.

timeline is easy on my end I am in no rush thats why its not done yet. I may bolt a set of webers on it to test the engine and break it in so when I'm ready to go so is the engine I had to baby my FD for so long (2500miles)on a base map before I could get it tuned it was killing me and it was in '03 or '04 so everyone wanted to race.

TitaniumTT 05-22-2011 09:27 PM

Stock turbo for the time being.... I may upgrade it to a BNR Stg 1 or 2. There will also be some sort of ECU from the get go.... still trying to decide between a bitchin deal on an RTek or a hellteck SRE..

Oh shit that's right.... I own an FD too don't I???? :smilielol5:

2gslse 05-22-2011 09:33 PM

S4 or S5 turbo? do you already have one?
just get the haltech you know you want to the r-tek would use an old ratty harness and be more limiting in the long run although limiting may be a good thing so you will leave it alone.

TitaniumTT 05-22-2011 09:43 PM

S5, I don't, but I should have one by the end of the week. I've spoken to a seller and we just need to confirm a few things and then I'll be picking it up hopefully sometime this week.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's not a matter of leaving it alone, it's a matter of it's not for me. B-Day gift for my mother so reliabilty is tops on the list..... although I SHOULD do the helltech so I can do some serious data-logging with the A2W intercooler so I can figure a few things out for a future project :suspect:

2gslse 05-22-2011 09:47 PM

If it falls through on the turbo I can hook you up I think I have 2 of them since its how I was originally going to go with the FB

since its for Mom and not you why air to H2O intercooler? seems to be asking for trouble to me

Ok... so I've been slacking in the picture dept... but only in that dept..... So here to appease hades.... pics of the front brakes. And the most AWESOME license plate frame I've ever owned. Tomorrow... hopefully we can move onto the Master Cylinder, then the traction control, then the belly pan, then maybe some new tools will be in.... :suspect:

Sooooooooooooooooooo...... these rotors are bigger in diameter than some wheels:biggrinjester: Stock size rotor on the top, and that'll end up on the 'vert along with the pads that I've loved for a LONG ass time.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

And they're only slightly thicker. They measure in @ 13.25"x1.25" DAYUM!!!

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

New calipers. Wilwood Superlite 6-piston cali's. Go big or go home... and these are HUGE! And they look pretty good too ;)

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Just slightly wider to accomodate the thicker rotors and much thicker pads....

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

And here's what came with the kit. A set of Coleman rotors and custom FastBrakes hats. A fw fittings as well. The cali's didn't come with the kit, I have a good friend who is a Wilwood dealer:party: I got a good deal on those. The brackets... which I don't have pics of, are SUBSTANTIAL. Mounting is kind of a PITA though because of where the threads are located. The bolts must go from the cali into the bracket, and then the bracket mounts to the knuckle. Not a big deal, just a little different.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Notice the distance between the studs and the cali

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Oh, and look at that monstore gap between the outside of the cali and the inner diameter of the wheel. Laughable!!!

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Slight difference

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Yeah... WHAT space!!!!! I actually needed to get a 5mm spacer to offset the wheel enough to clear. I'm not a spacer guy and thought about getting the Superlits Narrows.... but the stance is more aestetically pleasing and she seems to handle the wider stance a wee bit better so we're gonna keep it this way.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Yeah, it ACTUALLY spins... I was pleased

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Now, with a bunch of extra stuff being up in that area, we needed a way to keep them all from getting mangled. I've got 12" flex lines that replaced the factory hardline from the strut to the cali. I've also got a 3-core shielded tefzel wire for the traction control as well. In the past, I just had the traction control wire ziptied to the hardline. Obviously can't do that here.... so I cut the tabs off the old old OLD ass struts and built this little piece.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

Then I torched and bent it around a tube .25" bigger than the c/o so I could pad it on the inside

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

And here it is being test fitted with a much shorter line. You'll also note the super sexy little mounting tab specifically for the deutsch connectors..... yup yup!

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1306119863

And to think I put off building that little piece for 3 years and the whole thing was done, both pieces and powdercoated in like 90 minutes... I suck sometimes.

Happy hades?
