Wheels in the rear are MB Competitions

My buddy is still away on a work assignment, I don't know what his plans are for releasing the brakes as of now

MaczPayne 07-09-2010 12:45 AM

Graduated with my degree in Mechanical Engineering, finally.

Big things to come as soon as I finish paying off some debts, feels good to be working now!

Car's waiting for a tune; I'm trying to chase down a supra fuel pump, plus I mysteriously misplaced my microtech laptop adapter... can't find it for the life of me - stupid 95 dollar piece of plastic.

Gregory Casimir 07-10-2010 10:24 AM

there is a guy on the evil forum that has a supra fuel pump for sale
http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=884659
if you're still looking for one

MaczPayne 07-12-2010 11:50 PM

Got one on the way :)

MaczPayne 07-18-2010 04:04 AM

Car's tuned :) Ahh I missed power, the jeep was so damn slow :(

Left:

Tires
New brackets for the corbeau buckets
Corner Balance and Alignment
Charge up the A/C
A front lip

TitaniumTT 07-18-2010 07:54 AM

Looking good Johnson, Couple of questions for ya though

What size wheels/tires are you running F&R that you were able to squeek a 255/275?

What's she making for power?

Did you buy that supra pump used or new? and if new, from where? I need a new one too...

And easy on the Jeep/slow comments... yesterday I showed someone up who was driving an X3 like a douchebag.... I enjoyed that small victory for the mighty 4.0L

I ran a 17x9 +24 (A popular mustang offset) for a good while, but after the accident I ended up with 2 bent wheels.

I purchased a set of 4 17x9 +17's as a temporary replacement until I can find either new wheels or fix the old ones I had. I'm currently running 275's in the rear on a pair of 17x9 +17. I am still running the 17x9 +24 in the front with 255's along with a 5mm spacer.

I've got some things to take care of before I get new tires, but eventually I'll have the 17x9 +17 on all corners, with 255 nitto nt-05's.

As for fender modifications to use the 17x9 +17, I had to roll and flare all corners a good bit - I even messed up a little on the driver's front fender. That steel is so thin.

I haven't put the car on the dyno, so power is still unknown, but the last motor I had put out 230whp and 210tq at 10psi, with a pretty flat torque curve. I think my current tune and new motor is much better this time around. It's nothing impressive to talk about though haha.

I purchased the Denso pump from www.titanmotorsports.com $190 shipped brand new - everyone else was backordered, but they came through for me and had it shipped to my door before my tune. The pump went in flawlessly - perfect fit. I'm used to the walbro's whine, so I thought I wired the pump wrong when I turned the key, haha.

I learn how to drive better by driving the Jeep :). Gotta be smooth when going through turns with no swaybars. My brother is going to use it for a while since his 10th AE got stolen a few months ago, I just have to do some maintenance and repairs on it before I hand it off. Best thing I ever purchased for 600 bucks.

TitaniumTT 07-18-2010 11:34 PM

Cool, thanks man. I've got a set of 17x8 and 17x9 Works, +35 on both with 235 & 255/40/17. The D1SS that I'm running seem to be narrow, It looks like I could have gone to a 255 & 275/40/17. What do you think on fitment for those wheels on those tires?

I broke the rear sway bar link in my XJ a while back and just pulled the whole bar. not exactely a noticable difference with the front still in so yeah, I bet you're driving that thing a little slower than I haul around in my XJ. Shit, i had some asswipe in a audi A4 tailgating the snot out of me one night on a road that I could drive blindfolded. I was pulling away from him until I got picked up on radar doing 57 in a 25 :smilielol5:

I'll take a look at titanmotorsports, thanks for that link. Gotta make a decision tomorrow and MAYBE get the fucker up and going for a trip to KDR on Thurs, I'd love to drive it at least once

MaczPayne 07-19-2010 12:20 PM

I've never run that setup in the front, so I can't say anything much about it. If you look at my rear tire the corners of the tread sort of bow up. I would expect that area of the tread to be fairly cool compared to the rest of the contact areas. That would also mean I'm not using the whole tread effectively.

I can give you real answers on the 275 + 9" wheel fitment the next time I take it out to the autocross and measure temperatures at multiple points across the tread width. From that you can probably derive an answer for going from a 235 to a 255 on an 8" wheel.

TitaniumTT 07-19-2010 07:06 PM

Nice, thanks Johnson, I appreciate it.

So thosd 17x9 in the rear are a +17 you said? What are the chances of getting a 17x9 +35 with a 275 in the rear? What's the clearances like? It looks like there's a decent roll/pull on the rear of your car

MaczPayne 07-20-2010 12:34 AM

Yeah, they're +17. You should be able to fit 275's in the rear just fine, you'll have to roll the fender lip up though just to keep the tire from catching. No flare needed! Depending on the sidewall stiffness of the tire you run, you'll get enough flexing to rub on the muffler heat shields, I'm not sure if that's okay with you or not.

My inspiration is Blue TII on the other forum, I wouldn't have attempted to run the 255's if I didn't see his thread.

Here it is on the other forum:

http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=772831

The only reason I pulled the fenders is because of the +17 offset on the wheels, I only did a very slight pull on the old wheels. Damn I still miss that car.

TitaniumTT 07-20-2010 08:31 AM

Yup, I've had that thread bookmarked for a while now  I was under the car last night taking a few measurements and it looks like they'll fit. I MAY have to "adjust" the heat shieds, I agree and yeah, I don't mind that at all.

Your old sterns were a +24 in the rear correct? sitting on a 255?

Still doing math and I'm coming up with a few mm's in either direction, but like you said, depending on the tire and the sidewall flex, they're going to move anyway. I really don't care if I shred the tire, mangle the heatshields, if I touch paint in the rear, I'm going to have a stroke.

josh18_2k 07-20-2010 10:14 AM

the tire rubs the trailing arm abouylt the same time it hits the heat shield, so keep an eye on that. Probably doesnt matter, youll just melt the inside corner of the tire.

MaczPayne 07-20-2010 11:42 AM

Yeah, for some it's not a big deal (for me it isn't), but for some it is. My old sterns were 17x9 +24 in the rear too.

I'm going back to a 255 square setup when I get new tires, so I can rotate them around as I see fit. When I do get more power (the bug's getting to me), I'll probably look for some 18x10's and run square 285's :) Josh's car is my inspiration for that one.

chrisa 07-21-2010 12:18 PM

Nice build up!

MaczPayne 08-04-2010 11:14 PM

Wheels match again. Found a guy that might be able to repair my Sterns, we'll see how that pans out.

Car got tuned a few weeks ago, she's feeling great again. Just a few more things before I take her out to the next track event, ie cage/harness, splitter, rear wing, tires.

I made a mistake purchasing an air powered vacuum pump to evac my a/c system. Found out that they're not so great compared to the rotary vane electric pumps. I have one ordered and on it's way, so hopefully I'll have cold A/C next week :)

TitaniumTT 08-04-2010 11:51 PM

Im sorry Johnson.......... A/C?!??!?!?!! REALLY!?!??!?!?!

Other than that she looks awesome. I miss the black though and I will never own another black car. You can though ;)

MaczPayne 08-05-2010 02:27 PM

Yeah, it's hit 100 quite a few times here in the last month, there was a week where it was 115-120 also. If I wanted to go faster, I'll just bump up the power and add more tire :) That'll happen soon enough haha.

Plus most older A/C pumps disengage above a certain RPM, and I beleive IIRC the FC has that "proctection" feature also. So in a full race scenario, it wouldn't work anyways (aside from being dead weight) Not like those damn 09 bimmers at the track though....we had a day here a couple weeks ago it was hot as the hubs of hell, those bastards were all ripping laps off, windows up, climate control dialed into 20 degrees

In all honesty, if the A/C worked on my car from the get go, I would have likely kept it. I still have P/S though!! :)

TitaniumTT 08-05-2010 03:21 PM

Sissy boy. We just went through the hottest July on record...... EVER and I only once turned the A/C on in my XJ (traffic, had to make a phone call I believe), nor did I miss it in the FC. I guess I'm just more of a man than you ;)

Oh, and Joe's right... action shots

20* huh.... I bet all their drinks were frozen solid by then end of the day right? We're are talking F right? It's the only way to speak right?

classicauto 08-05-2010 03:23 PM

action edit :suspect:

Nismo 08-05-2010 04:21 PM

I donno, a lot can be said for keeping A/C, Joe the smooth talker that he is, talked me into keeping my A/C. You do need it with the Leather however.

Strap-on's don't count, they weren't OE ;)

JShiz 08-05-2010 10:16 PM

When you add humidity, it's a whole new ball game... ask me how i know...

TitaniumTT 08-05-2010 11:35 PM

We have disgusting amounts of humidity up here as well. You guys do have it pretty bad down there too though.

MaczPayne 08-06-2010 02:44 PM

I don't use a/c on the track, but it's nice to have it when I feel a little wimpy :)

josh18_2k 08-06-2010 03:25 PM

i wish i had A/C... sitting in grid is miserable on hot days. black bucket, black car, helmet.. ugh

MaczPayne 08-07-2010 03:11 AM

Indeed. :)

I used to not care about a/c, but after driving to calexico a few times during the summer, holy shit - I'm never going without it again.

Sharingan 19 08-26-2010 08:23 AM

Agreed!
It's making my IC upgrade far more challenging but it will be worth it for the 10 months out of the year that qualify as summer everywhere else.

TitaniumTT 08-26-2010 08:44 AM

Cought, ahem, HMIC cough

Wouldn't the condenser pre-heat the incoming air for both the rad and the IC...?

MaczPayne 09-19-2010 12:16 AM

For those interested in the Mandeville BBK I have, it will be released soon!:

http://www.norotors.com/index.php/to...fkmmhn1hndqr44

In other news, my <1 year old brake MC decided to give up the ghost.

Gregory Casimir 10-11-2010 10:41 AM

wow its about time i looked this up!!!

MaczPayne 10-11-2010 02:47 PM

Still need tires, and other small stuff :)

mazpower 10-14-2010 11:27 AM

Nice car.

MaczPayne 10-14-2010 02:47 PM

Thanks again for the awesome tune :)

I want another ride in your LS1 Miata with the new tune :)

MaczPayne 11-22-2010 03:47 PM

New NT-05's ready, car's ready for the thanksgiving auto-x! Finally :)

Update:

Really impressed with how the car handles compared to the old car, it's very predictable and manageable at the limit. Turn-in is very good, with just a dash of oversteer in the really tight corners. I'm sold on NT-05's now :)

Had probably the biggest smile on my face for a long time at the end of the practice :)

MaczPayne 11-30-2010 03:19 PM

Dec. 11's the next event, hopefully I can get TTT and his friend in on the practice :)

TitaniumTT 11-30-2010 04:13 PM

That would be so fucking epic... can't wait. Thanks Johnson!
