You planning on attending Tray's Oct run? Wanna follow back to CT then up to VT?

Come to think of it, after looking at the "completed" hood, the bonnet is very Border-esque, minus the fact the Border hood has a riser and then the vent.

I've seen a few detailed pics of that hood, the first riser is what kinda turns me off. After all is said and done though I'll probably have close to $3-400 in materials and about 40 hours into the hood, it would've been cheaper for me to buy one, but then I would be breaking a cardinal rule for this car....... no bolt-ons allowed

How is the motor doing?

Thanks man. She's doing well, pulling <50kpa vac, idling like a horny kitten, smooth as silk to 4500, haven't been past that mark yet and about 160 miles on her. Wednesday I'm heading out to Dave to discuss some tranny options for the winter so I'll return with ~460 miles. Then another 10 days of nice easy breakin, will probably get back to him with 1200 miles on her and a fresh set of platinum plugs....... Bumming me out becuase the original dyno day was supposed to be 8/8...... now it's 8/29 but what can ya do. Rather not rush it.

He looks like the one that would tear your throat out while you sleep, lol.

Nah, hadn't heard/read anything about it. Doubt I could swing it right now though, I need money...lots of it.

 He's actually the calmest of the three.

Well, the hoods painted, just need a little more time to finish the cut 'n buff.

Here's something VERY annoying though. Drove out to Dave's yesterday to discuss some winter projects. When I left I had ~38psi of fuel pressure @ idle. On the drive out I was getting CRAZY fluctuations... as in steady state cruise it would bounce from 30 - 39 psi. By the time I got to KDR, the Fpsi was ~35psi @ idle. By the I got home last night, it was <30psi @ idle. Looks like my MOTHERFUCKING FUEL FILTER IS GETTING CLOGGED AGAIN!!!!!! Not concerend about the engine as I jacked the tip-in and added 15% fuel across the board. L was always in the .8-mid.9's except in tip-in she would go lean for a split second but not buck at all, would hit 1.1-1.2. Still not boosting the engine so all should be fine. I'm calling Tim shortly to order 2 paper filters and talk to him about cleaning the stainless one. This is really pissing me off.

FC3S Murray 08-20-2009 09:39 AM

Damn man. WTF is the deal?

I wonder if I should get a fuel pressure sensor linked to my datalogit. I really dont know what my pressure is doing while cruising.

wow.... that is incredible. that takes a lot of skill man. did you just make that out of a factory aluminum hood? im so impressed i dont even know what to say:beatdeadhorse5:

WE3RX7 08-20-2009 03:42 PM

I think a few filters are definitely what you'll need for now! That is craziness with the fuel clogging up....

You may be a good candidate for a fuel cell, lol... this whole thing has me nervous about redoing my fuel tank over the winter.. I want to get it blasted and coated, but man not if its going to cause all these issues!

vex 08-20-2009 04:28 PM

I wonder how fast you will have to drive before you pull enough vac to pull the air through it.

I would, without a doubt. Right now I'm viewing on the dash, L, MAP, Fpsi, ETemp, Opsi, and Otemp.

Thanks man, I got some pics last when I got with her in the garage. I need to get a few money outdoors shots. That paint looks fucking SAWEEET in the sun. I'll post the ones I got tonight after I'm done cleaning that fucking filter.

I thought about the fuel cell thing but decided against it. Alot of work and I want to retain the factory fill. That's the hard part is the factory fill. Aside from that, and talking to Tim Marren and him pulling sand, yes sand, from a few of his filters from the ethanol breaking down some of the plastic cells, I'm all for it

Not very, right before I blasted to Daves yesterday I stopped for fuel and one of those do-it-yourself car wash places was right next door so I stopped. It's like 20' from the highway. I got on and watched all these little beads of water hit that trailing edge and shoot up and way over the vent before they nose dived for the area where the washer nozzles once were. What I want to do is put a few telltales on the hood an go for a drive while videoing them. I also want to install my old steel hood, go for a drive, monitor intake temps, stop, pull the hood and hit say the UIM with my lazer temp do-hickey, go home, put the new hood on and repeat and compare the results.

Aight, I'm going to clean a fuel filter................. AGAIN

WE3RX7 08-20-2009 10:25 PM

Wait - so the hood is painted now and we still dont have new pics? I dont care if it is almost midnight damnit!

Now just send your hood to Shine so they can make a mold and our cars can have even more in common :)

need RX7 08-20-2009 10:36 PM

Those damn fuel filters. It's not even my car, and I'm getting frustrated .

Oh yeah, shot her on Tuesday.... then worked until 6am on wed to get the vent area cut and buffed and the interior put back together. Then I drove out to Dave, hung out there for a few hours, BARELY made it home by 8, was asleep by 8:15 and woke up 8:30 this morning....... fun times:icon_tup:

 There is an evil forum member somewhat local to me that owns a fiberglass shop that was very interested in the PanSpeed hood that Shine was offering but more interested in an Atihun hood that an aqcuaintance had. I've given some serious thought to going to him and having him use my hood to pull a mold for a "stud" fee if you will. Mainly becuase I would love one in glass or CF and it would be nice to be able to have another one without actually making another one, in case of an accident or something. Fucking Shine man, I spoke with him on 7/12 and he said 1.5-2.5 weeks. Here it is almost 6 weeks later and not even an update. They had a starting point, I didn't. i was able to make one from scratch and get it painted IN MY FREE TIME, in about half the time that they have spent saying it'll be done........ That's all I'm saying about that

 No doubt! Look at the shit that I pulled from it tonight. Fucker sat in some lacquer thinner for about 1/2 hour before I scrubbed it with an SS brush, blasted it with carb clean and 135psi of air. She flows good now though, right around 43.7psi. Tomorrow I'm going to pull the MAP line from the reg, drive around for a bit and then pull the datalogs. They shoujld be steady @ 43.5ish psi. Also, need to do some work on my stereo so when I do I'm going to pull the pump and look at my brandy new prefilter and see what kinda of shit is clogged up in there. It never ends, where is this shit coming from?:banghead:

Have I mentioned I hate you and your awesome fab skills?? Just checking... thats one thing I am not good at - bodywork/fab work. Mainly because I have limited experience with it..

That hood turned out great... and I'm with you on the whole Shine thing. Thats my frustration right now. I was in on a few GB they put together but they take FOREVER.. I want to place a bulk order for the parts to save on shipping... but they havent given a realistic timeframe on when to expect parts, so I'll probably just start ordering them separate and hope after the 3rd or 4th order they'll cut me some "slack" for being a repeat buyer so much.. they were awesome when I bought the fenders, but ever since.. not so hot..

If you get that hood to an FG/CF guy, I'd take one if CF tomorrow... and I could pick it up :) We need more east coast fabricators...

need RX7 08-21-2009 12:42 AM

Hood came out awesome :icon_tup:
