 I have no patience, when something breaks and I don't have a back-up, people fear for thier lives ;)

Fittings suck, I keep one of each of every angle of every so I don't have to guess. Instant blood pressure increase when I spend a few $100 on fittings and line and then shit doesn't fit.

For example, I found out I burned out a few coils, and I spent an hour or so calling every single GM dealer and autoparts store in a hundred mile radius looking for them. They were 90 miles away and I actually had to think about spending 3 hours in the truck to get up there to get them as opposed to waiting till tomorrow. People say I'm impatient, I don't think so. I just think they're lazy

So I figure it's about time for an update. Got the engine in all checked out. Comp was 145F & 150R - high from all the assembly goo. So I triple checked the timing, primed the fuel system, made sure there was oil pressure and hit the Start button. She fired on the first crank in less than 5 seconds. WOOT! She ran for 15 minutes before I lost the front rotor..... a sound I know all to well. So I looked at the EGT's, found out it was the front and shut her down.

Pulled the plugs and, of course they were wet, stuffed the comp tested in there and found ~120F and 130R.... OK........ that's good but WTF?

So started checking all the normal things which is actually retardedly easy with the Motec. There is a function called output test. I found out that the trailing plugs and the #1 Leading weren't firing...... mmmmmmmmkay. Checked all the electrical going to them, checked the leads, checked everything except the coils themselves becuase there is no data on how to manually check them, they're all on OBDII cars so they just plug the tester into the port and they know all they need to know.

So I switched some wiring around and found out that, yup, they're dead. Went into the Motec and found out that they're all being slightly overdwelled. In talking with Motec (again, the support with them is ridiculous, absolutely top notch and couldn't ask for anything better) I discovered that something that they consider to be common knowledge is to unplug the coils when doing firmware updates and it's kind of a good ideal to do it if there are a lot of ECU resets that need to happen. I was changing a bunch of things in the 3 maps that I use and the ECU was reset probably about 20 times in the course of a few minutes. That could've caused it too. Either way, I killed $260 worth of coils. Something thatI won't soon forget. So now I have to wait for napa to get me some new coils and hopefully we'll be back on track tomorrow.

BTW Bill, new Dyno Day is 08/10. I'll be there ~ 10, just sayin' ;)

Is that dyno day going to be "the" dyno day?

 I read that after I typed it and thought....... should I change it???? NAHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Sorry guys, had to ;) She's all better now though. 4 new coils, (actual real Denso ones in the leadings, Napa couldn't give me four of the same) and about 20 minutes of idle time tonight. I know one of the coils was FUBAR, the plugs were FUBAR too though, they were so wet from assembly goo and extra fuel that they fouled out. No spark means no current through the wire which means the timing light wasn't firing either. So I still need to figure out how to test LS1 coils without the OBDII cripe to see which ones are still good. I know one is bad and seeing as how they were all subjected to the same torture, it's a good idea to replace all four. But I'm a little pissed at myself for not checking for wet plugs earlier in the game, oh well, live and learn I guess.

Tomorrow the temp steelie hood and bumper go on and then a weeks worth of breakin - woot!

Negatory - Monday will be baseline 7000 RPM and wastegate for sure, we MAY play around with the sequentials a little bit but it won't be the 8000 rpm 15-18+lbs day. On Monday I am going to let Dave know about my intentions to be back on 8/27 (Thursday) for that dyno and a corner balance in prep for the CART Pocono Track day the day after. So if you're game for two days of testosterone, that might be the ticket. I'll be spending Thursday night at some local hotel.

WE3RX7 08-03-2009 12:42 AM

I may make the Dyno on 8/27 but the friday after is a tough one, lol... We shall see. I def want to be there for the 15+ day...

Roen 08-03-2009 04:44 PM

and the saga continues.......

Ill let you know what happens next week and if the 8/27 is a go or not. Pocono should be fun. I need to get my ass in gear and get that trailer done though otherwise I'll be driving out and back with the truck withe the 7 in tow........ which is something I'd like to avoid.

Could I at least request a Tesla instead when that day comes?

TitaniumTT 08-09-2009 08:45 PM

Negatory.

So I've been slammed with work lately and the little project that I had for the FC turned into a MAJOR one, I think the end results will be well worth it though. Regardless, I have yet to drive the car, sad I know, but I have the next few days off and I am hopeful (actually I HAVE to start driving her by Tuesday) to be on the dyno 8/18, then again on the 27th, that day will not change. Time is slipping away from me and I sense a 44.5hr strait no sleep work day in my near future.......... I love cars. I think my next hobby is going to be collecting stamps.

I did however get the dual EGT's in, the Pre-intercooler air temps, and a few other little odds and ends sorted out so that kinda makes me happy. Better yet would've been keeping on schedule but can't have everything I guess.

MaczPayne 08-10-2009 10:49 AM

Funny you mention stamps, my friends and I always joke around, "We should just sell all our cars and Jeeps and get into something like low-rider bikes, or stamps"
