Any at-speed vids? Glad to hear you found a new shell quickly enough. Good luck on the swap.

Did your other car have black interior as well?

MaczPayne 01-28-2010 06:16 PM

I didn't find any, I almost bought a go-pro camera for the track event, but decided not to since I wanted to save up for new tires.

The wrecked car has blue interior from an S5.

The brakes cost a little over 1400, about 400 of that were in the rotors.

MaczPayne 02-05-2010 12:07 PM

Picking up the new car this Sunday, gotta drive about 330 miles to get it with a trailer though.

Things to do:

-One of the wheels got bent, gotta see if it can be repaired
-Rewire the Microtech Harness
-Rebuild the transmission
-Build new seat brackets for the Corbeaus so they sit lower
-Relocate the battery on the new car
-Transfer all the go fast goods from the black TII over
-Replace the stock turbo
-Install A/C, I might try PS just to see what it feels like too
-Fabricate a roll cage (Currently working on an Autodesk inventor model)
-Quick re-tune
-Corner balance and alignment
-New tires
-Paint the s5 sideskirts red
-New lip
-Rear diffuser
-Sell all the n/a parts from the new car to make up some of the investment.

Woot!

Good work getting a new car so fast. Can't wait to see another build thread!

TitaniumTT 02-05-2010 12:34 PM

NICE!!!! Congrats Johnson. Lemme know if you need a Mil-Spec quick disconnect harness for that there MicroTech ;)

That car, or your old car doesn't happen to have ABS?

MaczPayne 02-06-2010 03:46 AM

What are you asking for one of those QD's?

Both cars don't have ABS, I prefer it that way for now

Unfortunately you guys are gonna have to deal with cell phone pictures, because my camera was in my brother's 10th AE, which was stolen the same night on the day I crashed.

Gregory Casimir 02-08-2010 02:43 PM

damn, talk about bad luck! well at least you got a new body so thats good. have any pics of the new car yet?

MaczPayne 02-09-2010 08:48 PM

No pics yet, gotta find time to take them!

Gregory Casimir 02-10-2010 09:46 AM

any updates dude?

MaczPayne 02-11-2010 07:43 PM

Still not much to update on, senior design has me running around like a chicken with its head cut off. One of the first things I have planned to do will be to test the compression on the engine, sell it with the trans and driveline, clean her up, and start putting the new parts in.

Gabriel82 02-17-2010 04:53 PM

FortyfiveD: dude I have seen your car at Diamond Plaza. I was look an FC wtfooch a pink hood thats awesome hahaha

Johnson: when you putting up pix of the new GXL? and let me know if your still down to switch hatches hahaha

MaczPayne 02-17-2010 05:17 PM

Car is at my house, need money and time to do the whole transfer.

Gabriel82 02-17-2010 05:19 PM

Depends on a lot of things. What you want to use for covering, if you want it fully terminated or if you just want a harness that runs from the ECU to the firewall, covered to the back of the intake and then you take it from there or a COMPLETElY finished harness. PM me if you're interested and we can take it from there.

For anyone interested or thinking that it's easy and cheap and think about saying so, lemme put it this way, expect to spend OVER $450 for crimpers alone ;)

MaczPayne 02-18-2010 02:16 AM

Pshew, sounds like a big commitment! Give me a year or until I'm settled out of college and I'll let you know!

TitaniumTT 02-18-2010 02:28 AM

Let's put it this way, if you have a harness already built, for me to cut it at the firewall and install a Mil-Spec QD wounldn't be that bad but the connectors can get >$100. It's when you add in the miles of Tefzel, raychem, terminals and boots, that the parts alone can easily get close to $500.... so lemme know, they are awesome though. They let you build an engine on a stand, drop the whole thing in one time and plug it in ;)

UNLESS...you are in the uniformed service. :) We use these Quick-discounts through all the aircraft. It is a nice perk IF i went the QD route:banghead:

TitaniumTT 02-18-2010 01:29 PM

If I only knew dude......so many old tools have come through from other units that I am sure there are so so so many extras laying around that are unservicable for military standards BUT fine for civilian use. .

Max777 03-04-2010 01:16 AM

this thread needs pics.

MaczPayne 03-09-2010 03:42 AM

Been wrapping up senior design before I graduate in spring, so I haven't touched the car at all for the past month :( I'll be working on it as soon as next week ends :)

MaczPayne 03-30-2010 03:22 PM

Got some work in during the past week:

-Swapped the rear subframes (a PITA job with only one jack)
-Pulled the engine/trans from donor car
-Picked up a new exhaust

Things left:
-Waiting on a radiator, will be picking up a low mileage trans at the same time when it's ready
-Waiting on my wheels at the repair shop
-Motor/trans in the TII needs to be yanked
-Microtech and alarm wiring needs to be yanked
-Wiring, installation, and etc
-Installing (for the second time) the big brake kit
-A re-tune to make sure everything's running right
-New tires
-etc

If I work carefully, it'll be driving around within 3 weeks

Gregory Casimir 03-31-2010 12:39 AM

^^ lucky you

MaczPayne 04-06-2010 12:14 AM

Two of the wheels are toast, I'm going to hold on to them until I can afford to have new rings and barrels produced.

As for replacement wheels, I ordered a set that I won't be crying over when I ruin them. They're fairly lightweight, and I can wrap the same sized rubbers on them :)

Big Brakes are back on, but the car will still be stranded on jack-stands since I have no wheels with tires to it down on.

Currently working on the wiring, removing the old from the wrecked, rebuilding and re-looming the engine harness and power harness, and installing them. With luck, I'll have this thing going again in 2 or 3 weeks.

TitaniumTT 04-06-2010 12:42 AM

That's what you said a week ago.... is this turning into a "money Pit"

MaczPayne 04-09-2010 01:44 AM

Hopefully not haha!

I keep running into things to do, and if I don't do them, they'll always be a splinter in the back of my mind!

Got a track day on the 22nd of May to aim for, hopefully everything works out!

MaczPayne 05-29-2010 12:08 AM

Fired her up for the first time in 6 months, damn she sounds good. No pics just yet, I keep forgetting to snap any

Things left to do:

-Finish wiring the instruments
-Bleed the brakes and clutch
-Mount tires
-Get the car smogged and registered
-Shakedown!

MaczPayne 05-31-2010 02:54 AM

Drove her last night and today, feels good to be back!

The other wheels need tires, so this will have to do; I still need to get it smogged and registered. Trying out 275's in the rear this time :)

Pics don't do the interior justice, I've never seen a more mint black interior! All I need now is a rear privacy cover.

MaczPayne 05-31-2010 05:46 AM

I was hoping no one caught that, damnit! lol

Gregory Casimir 05-31-2010 12:48 PM

wow man nice to see your 7 back man!

I'm on at odd times...I'll edit my post above soon. I LOL'ed at the contact ryan part though. I like how the car is coming along too, FAT tires! No rubbing issues at all? I gotta clean out my interior to look like yours...You gonna hit the track soon?

MaczPayne 06-01-2010 12:00 AM

No rubbing whatsoever, and if I do have some rubbing, I'll just 86 the 3mm spacers I have up front to get more clearance :)

Car needs a slight retune for safety's sake, and it'll be ready to tear it up at the tracks!

MaczPayne 06-03-2010 01:19 AM

A few more, need to find a replacement triangle for the dash haha. Damn I missed driving it!

Gregory Casimir 06-03-2010 12:45 PM
