Yikes... get yourself some good snow tires. (POR-15 works well to inhibit rust on the underbody from the salt.)
I would be more worried about damage in shipping than cost, a reasonably sized piece only costs about $20.00 to ship anywhere in the US.

I am sorry that I have let this slide. Maybe I can get back to it in a couple weeks, after I figure out this transmission issue enough to get the '86 in the garage.

no worries man, and POR-15 is king. I am sanding and POR-15, then hercu-lining the whole under carriege. I drove the 7 with summers up front and half gone all seasons out back last winter when I wrecked up my subie and she did fine. even took her out on dirt back roads (my parents live out there) and made it. just need to keep it in high gears and control the throttle and clutch in constantly on the back roads, was fine on main roads, just took me a bit to get going cause little traction. I hate driving it in the winter anyway though so I'll try not to. don't want anymore rust then I already have.

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but I was wondering how the front crossmember bolts look under the car and if you could cut the frame around them for me to dremel those tab welds off of them and press them out? I removed mine because I noticed a ring of rust at the base of the thread as I was in the process of putting my crossmember back on and discovered the bolt was in really bad shape. I also took out the other one just to check and it was fine, but i ended up damaging the threads in the process (couldn't swing the soft-face hard enough to move it so I had to start with a real dead blow first). Just let me know if you could cut me a pair.

Thanks.

I can do this easily, as I will be cutting the entire car apart to haul to the scrapyard anyway.

However, I have a lot to do at work, traveling a lot, etc. so please don't expect me to get to this for a couple months. I wish that I got this car cut up sooner, but it seems to always be the lowest priority project.

Maybe on Friday I can get down to the garage and take the front crossmember off to assess the condition of the bolts. This assumes that you want the part of the box-frame which they thread into, or do you want part of the crossmember and part of the frame with the bolts still in it?

I will probably use a torch or sawzall on this part of the car, so either way is fine.

I will get pictures and get back with you, the underbody is not in very good shape on this car.

long chance.. but do you still have the car?
