Epic fail for trying to clean out the tank the 'easy way'.

On to Plan B: see if the tank in the white car is clean (since it was on the road in the last 2 years), if so it will be swapped.

Otherwise, Plan C: I have ordered a POR 15 Fuel Tank kit. That'll work, but it time intensive.

Last ditch, Plan D: drive Deathtrap.

Plan B is a failure. Tank is just as crusty as the other one.

Plan C is a go, but it hasn't arrived yet! Dammit Amazon!

No $$ for one. Unless Speed1 wants to sponsor and hook a brother up.

Its so refreshing to not have an exhaust leak!
FIXED!!!!

So i ditched the RB mufflers and put on an N1 muffler that i bought from Reese.
I Tig welded the pipe from the N1 to the RB presilencer, Because the stud that I cut short from along time ago was not providing the tightness to properly seal, and of course the studs won't come out. So the whole system only has 2 gaskets, hehe.
I also made a homemade silencer for the exhaust tip. 4&3/8" down to 2&1/4".
The exhaust has a nice deep sound to it.
Love it.

POR 15 fuel tank cleaner/sealer kit is being delivered today!! Wednesday I am taking the fuel tank to work, and using our 300 degree burner pressure washer to blast it out, then use the kit on Thursday when I'm off.

Wish me luck!

GySgtFrank 04-06-2015 12:19 PM

Luck. :suspect:

Just had an interesting conversation with one of the guys at POR (Advanced Coatings). They said that if after the tank is pressure washed and cleaned, if there are no leaks, pinholes, or traces of rust in the tank, it isn't necessary to use the Metal Prep or Sealer.

If that is the case, it just cut down my work my about 70%.

Burning the tank today, cleaner tomorrow.

djmtsu 04-08-2015 05:57 PM

Early success!

Brought the tank to work today, and used the pressure washer with a burner to blast out all the scale and sludge, BEFORE the POR kit is used. 75% of the scale and nastiness is GONE. What remains should easily be eaten up by the POR Marine Clean, which is happening tomorrow.

No pics, since my phone is at 10% and failing.
