WE3RX7 09-23-2011 06:36 PM

So just so I'm clear... thats primer on top of the original blue to make the two tone look right?

IH8DSM 09-23-2011 07:34 PM

So small update all the 5 lug swap is ready to go in just waiting on brake lines I ended up using t2 brakes and rotors, so they'll probably go on this week. So hopefuly tommy the taxadermy turtle will be 5 lug soon cause these steel wheels with the lowering springs I scrape exhaust everywhere 16 with decent sidewall should fix that

Boosted FC 10-30-2011 10:47 PM

Nice project & it looks as if it is coming along nicely. I woiuld also kill for a duckbill spoiler to put on my T2....lol

I thought we went over this. It's Tommy Tutone.

IH8DSM 10-31-2011 10:39 PM

It wont be two tone much longer though

IH8DSM 11-17-2011 11:41 PM

Ok bought a roller s5 fc for some random pieces now I gotta decide if I wanna swap the black s5 interior or sell it.

Also small update pulled rear cradle and fixed the diff mount. 5 lug needs to go on soon that blown rear diff mount ripped my axles and the pos steelies are sketchy in the rain.

Swapping the interior is a pain. You really need to keep the S4 A/B pillars which means you have to paint yours. The headliner also needs to be dyed/redone because the S5 one is skinnier due to the wider S5 A pillars, which you won't be using. The rear carpet also won't fit perfectly because the S5 storage boxes are smaller to fit the larger S5 B pillars so when you keep your B pillars there will be a small gap (not really noticable unless you know what you're looking for). If it has the rests for the cargo cover (not sure if they all do), then you need to drill out holes in the body to fit the mounting pegs.

It has the rests for the rear cargo. Damn and here I thought the dash was gonna be a pita

Oh it is. Unless you're ok with broken plastic, be prepared to fiberglass. I had terrible luck putting the '91 dash in. The plastic cracked wayyyyyyy too easy. The plastic on my '86 dash (grey plastic) was much more flexible than the '91 dash (yellow plastic).

You can always leave those rests off, but there's a pretty decent gap where they go. I ended up Dremeling the holes and then gluing the things in there. I'm not sure I needed the glue because I Dremeled them to be very tight fits.

I also forgot that the black front carpet has a bubble on the passenger tranny tunnel. I'm not sure what it's from, or if it's universal to black S5 carpet, but I can't seem to get it to go away. I don't see a difference in S4 and S5 cars there, but who knows.

Overall, I'm glad I did it but I don't think I'd want to do it again, at least not that way. If I did, I'd probably just take all the S4 stuff and paint/dye it. My dyed (formerly grey) center console looks much better than the stock black dash. And the painted A/B pieces look great. I ended up repainting the already black hatch lock covers because they were so faded.

Im still stripping the car so I wont be able to do much swapping till later. I think I will end up doing the s5 moldings as well since they are in decent shape

Ok so been looking at the dtss eliminators and other bushings. So I have a few questions I read somewheres to not use the derlin (sp) rear diff mounts cause its to rough on the case and that i should use the mazdaspeed ones instead is this true or am i just reading this wrong. I think im gonna use mmr for my bushings, heard nothing but good things about them.

I've also given up on the black interior. I'd much rather just sell it and use the money to buy more parts. Also been looking for a set of crown vic wheels ever since i saw this red s4

just makes me go from 6 to midnight

Wow those wheels on that red 7 look sweet! I wish my fc was a s4... sometimes. I hate the auto seatbelts in the s5, many spilt drinks & choke holds haha. I wish I had stripped my s4 interior completely after it's demise.. might end up getting a racing harness anyways. Although the s5 has stronger plastics than the s4. I went through a couple brittle center consoles in the s4 & I have extra s5 center pieces if you're needing some. Actually I have enough parts to put a few fc's together so if you need anything let me know.
Love the duck wing had one on my s4 ;)
Good luck with your build!
