What happened? What do you mean you lost it and the money? That's some BS man.

IbanezFreak87 01-19-2012 04:09 PM

Yea the silver rhd roller from Canada was seized. Lost the car, and 6k.

Currently looking for a dirt cheap bare bones R1 shell...... fingers crossed :(

speedjunkie 01-20-2012 07:22 AM

WTF, seized by the gov't? That's some BS! This gov't is getting way too obtrusive. I believe they've forgotten their role.

RENESISFD 01-31-2012 09:25 PM

Why do you need a R1 shell? A base shell would be the same.

HAHA ^

A base or an R1 will do. No sunroof is a must. I can deal with rear wiper.

Yeah! This government these days getting out of control and taking all our cars! Too bad the law that made importing cars less then 25 years old illegal was passed in 1988 and was signed by the conservative Jesus Ronald Reagan.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquer...:@@@D&summ2=m&

Turns out it was due to heavy lobbying by Mercedes.

"The grey market was successful enough that it ate significantly into the business of Mercedes-Benz of North America and their dealers. The corporation launched a successful million-dollar congressional lobbying effort to stop private importation of vehicles not officially intended for the U.S. market. An organisation called AICA (Automotive Importers Compliance Association) was formed by importers in California, Florida, New York, Texas, and elsewhere to counter some of these actions by Mercedes lobbyists, but the Motor Vehicle Safety Compliance Act was passed in 1988, effectively ending private import of grey-market vehicles to the United States."

Turns out the problem has to do with corporate money influencing politicians to do their bidding!

Man! I was looking forward to following the build. Keep us posted. If you find any rollers in S. Fla. and need someone to go take a peek let me know. I'd be happy to check it out for ya.

It always has to do with money. Sadly to the government, nothing else matters.

On a lighter note, I have found a importer in Philadelphia that can find me a R1 roller. So hopefully I'll have that in my hands within a couple of months and I can start the damn build already. Been a LONG time coming.

Were did you end up wrecking the car anyhow? What city?

RX SE7EN 07-13-2012 07:56 AM

Why don't you just buy a legal car instead of illegal/imported rollers? Wouldn't that save you money?
