Wait, did you blow the engine on the way home from DGRR?

btw it was good to meet you Levi. And your buddy.

And the rest of you guys too lol.

Fendamonky 04-28-2013 10:42 PM

Yeah, I did :( The fitting that connects my oil thermostat to the engine worked loose and I dumped a full load of oil on the highway.

At best my bearings are toast and my e-shaft is toast. If I'm lucky than everything else is salvageable. If not... well I'd rather not dwell on that possibility until I've got the engine out and I'm tearing it down.

It was good to meet you too! I'm glad that Brian and the rest showed up at the gas station so you were able to get up with him :)

This is the first thread I read, and it's bad news man. I hope for a speedy recovery!

speedjunkie 05-06-2013 01:09 AM

Oh shit man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that :(

afgmoto1978 05-06-2013 07:02 AM

Damn that sucks!

Almost had a similar experience at DGRR, luckly I caught it time and temporarily fixed it.

Good luck getting it rebuilt.

Yeah, it REALLY sucks! Especially since the engine was running really strong. I've identified the cause (lack of a mount for my oil thermostat caused the threads to walk loose, dumping all my oil on the highway) and will certainly be correcting that when she gets back on the road. Unfortunately that probably won't be until the fall or winter :(

Yeah, you're telling me! I wish I would have caught the dropped oil pressure before it was too late.

Thanks! I'm actually going to try to tackle the rebuild myself. Hopefully my rotors, plates, and housings are all fine.

update :ugh2:

Fendamonky 06-06-2013 10:36 PM

Hey hey! What's up Tharek :)

There isn't likely to be an update until after I transfer and/or Bianca and I make it to Brazil and back. I don't want to pull the engine out and strip it down if I *might* get word a couple weeks later that we're gunna need to pack everything up and move. Once I know when/where I'm going (and have gotten there) I'll pull the engine out, start to strip it down and then assess the damage. After we get Bianca home to visit her family I'll start getting stuff together for the rebuild.

Right now we're just saving monies for the flight and holiday.

Get this beast back on the road!!

Fendamonky 07-08-2013 02:42 PM

Unfortunately she won't be back on the road until at least the spring most likely.. My current plan is to keep the engine as close to how it was built last (I'll reuse as much as possible).

I'll replace the PFC with a Syvecs S8 (at least that's my plan), and I'll replace the stock coils/TwinPower with the AEM IGN-1A coils.

If I can get all that done by DGRR than I'll count it as a success since, financially, my wife and I are just barely scraping by right now... she just started a new job though, so that should help a lot.

Thankfully I still have my litre bike to give the speed fix, and I've got the Miata for some 4-wheeled fun :)

GySgtFrank 07-08-2013 02:52 PM

Dang it. I still need my ride along. :banghead:

RedR1 07-08-2013 03:01 PM

Im hoping to have my FD running by next DGRR as well. crossing my fingers, we'll see!
