Well I don't know about a challenger, Brian is very talented, and I could never match his attention to detail, mine will be much less complicated compared to his twin set up.

Sounds like a good challenge to me. I'll take that bet :)

Congrats man - sorry I missed out on all the fun at Dave's. In the spring when my engine is in the car and ready to roll, I'll probably abuse Dave's dyno as well. We will definitely need to compare notes and I'll need some Motec schooling while we're at it ;)

Thanks Kevin, I'm OCD, what can I say. It seems to be infectious too. I keep telling my soon to be partner that he's "Coming along quite nicely" :lol Of course he answers with, "shit, it's better to [sacarsm] index every single little screw[/sarcasm] than listen to you bitch about it for days on end and eventually watch you do it yourself." He is coming along quite nicely though

Ya know, indexing the screws? So that all the heads are pointing at the same angles? If you have a line of them they look like +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
as opposed to ++XKKX+XKX++XKXKX+XKKX+XKXX+XKX+X+XKXX+X+XKX+XXKKX +X+KKX+
If it's not a right angle it's wrong, shit like that, yes I'm insane. I've also been known to repaint hoods 5 times until I'm happy. :banghead:

Sounds like a plan to me Bill. I'll definately venture out for that. I'll actually be there on Wednesday before Turkey Day to whitness a friends '99 Seq FD put down some numbers, and also to go for one last cruise of the year to PA. I just realized the date, I have like 12 days of FC joy left :sniffle:

Let me know in advance when you're going to Dave's in the Spring. I'd love to be there. I'll be strapped down a few days before DGRRX as well. Replacing my LS1 coils with LS2 Yukon coils and swapping out injectors as well. I'm pretty maxed @ 90% duty. I originally had planned for ~350-375RWHP. I enjoy exceeding goals :D

WE3RX7 11-20-2009 09:30 AM

What size injectors are you running at 90%?

If all goes well, the engine should be rebuilt and in the car in March. I would like to get some base tuning done prior to DGRR (even though my FC wont be comign).

I will be going to Dave's with the irons prior to the engine build though to discuss those fun ports he mentioned last time I was up there...

I also was considering getting him to rebulid my trans and cryo some things, dunno though -we'll see how time/money permits...

WE3RX7 11-20-2009 09:31 AM

Oh - and I misbehaved and got some LS2 Yukon coils for my RX8... just need to install them....

I know, I know... stop spending time/money on the 8, lol....

Marren "American Style" 750/1000cc/min or 72/96 lb/hr injectors. I later found out that they are Delphi's and designed for propane :banghead: Basically the spray pattern is more of a firehose than anything and they are NOT very linear. My only real saving grace is the Motec inj drivers being so damn powerful and so damn accurate. My belief is, not having seen many other cars, is that std or poor injectors, like these, combined with not the greates inj drivers, leads itself to a strange running car. If you look at some of my logs it becomes pretty clear when looking at duty cycle. But whatever. I've had a bunch of conversations with a few top people in the field and I may be doing some testing in the spring. FWIW, I may be redoing my fuel rails as well. I'm not going to bad mouth the guy on the forum, I think it's something personal between him and I and he still makes some cool products and his injector service is still adequate although I'll be going to Kinsler from now on

Cool, lemme know, I'll be out there sometime in March as well to pick up a few things from Dave - tranny and rear end more specifiacally. FC won't be there, or maybe it will, depends on timing.

He's rebuilding my 6-spd and cryo'ing it as well. I highly rec the cryo treatment. It's been proven 100's of times over, especially on his rotors and tranny's and e-shafts. Definately worth it in my eyes. It'll be nice if my tranny, that everyone is saying is weak and sloppy, can stand up to 2x renni torque and still last and shift silky smooth..... I gotta get back on that damn thing, taking up too much shop space. Hehehe, went to the Jersey Meet on Tuesday and had the same conversation that I always seem to have regarding that tranny, I wouldn't do it, it's weak, it breaks all the time. Yeah but when is it breaking? When is it blowing? The answer is, when there is 0 torque being applied to it. It's not a strength issue, it's a design flaw that has a TSB on it :D

Yeah, you should. You should send them to me and start concentrating on the FC. It would be cool to be get the 8 on the dyno, make a pull with the stock coils, and then put the Yukon LS2 coils on and make a second pull, see if there is any apprechiable difference. I plan on doing that with my LS1 vs LS2 coils in the spring IFF I can build it such that it's an easy swap. I believe the connectors will plug right in. If that's the case, than it's a matter of swapping out the "pack" which shouldn't take that long. We'll see..... soo much to do!

WE3RX7 11-20-2009 09:56 AM

Thats high on a 1000cc inj for only 15lbs or less... crazy! I'm still plotting that side of my setup out. I'm sure I'll end up with 1300 or 1600 secondaries. Been contemplating running four secondaries though instead and two primaries... we'll see...

I'll discuss the "fun" ports when I get to that stage... its the big key difference between your engine build and mine and w/ Nismo's (Kevin?) as well.... we will all have uniquely different setups which will be cool to see the power curves. Peak power will probably be within 50hp or so of each other.

My trans was rebuilt about 12K miles ago, but nothing special. It shifts fine, but that was with a street ported S5 block and ported stock S5 turbo around 8psi... nothing crazy. I'd rather get the trans addressed while its out of the car then put it in only to have to take it back out. It is a jspec version as well, so no overdrive for me :) Maybe someday I'll venture down the 6spd path...

For the LS2 coils it wouldnt be a simple swap of the pack unfortunately since I have RB race wires which have a different boot connector than whats needed for the LS2. So I'd have to make a pull, swap the pack, pull the wheel and swap the wires - not hard, just an extra step involved. From the rx8 community the general belief is not much on power when your NA, but more about the clean burn and fuel efficiency which is really all I'm looking for and the reliability of them is an added bonus (and cost.. I only paid $20/each).

Meh, not really, look at the power. I originally planned for 350-375 as a starting point and then upgrading if need be. I guess the need be is here. 90% is a little too high and I want to try a new injector. One with a better spray pattern, something a little more predictable and hopefully get my idle above .83-85L ... bleh

I'm going to corner the market for the 6-spd FC conversion if this all works out. It won't be all that cheap but it will bolt right in. Just need to address the speedo crap. Not an issue for me..... suckers

Honestly, I'd leave the tranny alone until you start to have problems with it..... JUST DON"T USE ROYAL PURPLE! That stuff blows. The Type R trans is good for some serious HP and torque before it becomes a weak point.

I see, I see. So even if you had a set of wires premade, you'd still have to pull a wheel to swap wires? That kinda.... sucks. Where in the hell did you find them for $20 each. more importantly, where are the 4 that you didn't get. 'Cuz I want them..... now.

WE3RX7 11-20-2009 11:36 PM

I have "connections" on domestic parts (too bad I dont build domestic cars)... long time drag race friend of mine builds GM stroker engines, etc etc blah blah...

I may just leave the trans for now... its still up in the air..

I really need to do an update to my thread and stop whoring yours out :)

TitaniumTT 11-20-2009 11:44 PM

lol.... Oh well.

So... ah.... can you try to get me some LS2 Yukon coils? Seriously.

TitaniumTT 11-23-2009 03:54 PM

So I had an emmisions test today :suspect:

1 Attachment(s)
I found a shop, not exactely local, about 85 miles away that was sympathetic to my needs. He said as long as he didn't have customers waiting for an emmisions test, I would be able to use the equipment in diagnostic mode with a tech present to do a little tuning and try to get her to pass.

So I spent ~3 hrs of the last few days welding in a new center section for my exhaust that consisted of a Magnaflow hi-flow cat and some other bits. I bought the one with the air injection port already welded so when I have to go back with a working air-pump, it's won't require me to take the exhaust off and weld stuff in, just plumb it up. I didn't replace the precilencer that I have now, I just built an entire new center section. The way my exhuast is set up, there is a flex pipe and the end of the DP with a 3" V-Band welded on. On the other side of the V-Band is a MagnaFlow 3" in 2x 2.5" out and a few bends heading off to the rear cans. Right around the axles there is a second V-Band on each side that seperates the mufflers from the presilencer or cat. I built a new section with the cat between the V-Bands. When I originally bought the pre-silencer, MagnaFlow offered the same case in with a cat installed. They have since stopped offering that so I had to buy a 3"-3" hi-flow cat and a 2x 2.5" - 3" Merge Collector as well as a few other pieces of piping. Either way all I need is my 7/16" subby racheting wrench and 5 minutes and I can swap the center sections out.

True to form, today is the deadline so I went up late this morning  The tech backed the car in, no door dings this time, off to a good start.... although he did stall it FOUR times even after I warned him it was a grabby twin disc clutch, "eh, we deal with those all the time." It's a Rustang/Vette shop primarily. So we started her on the rollers with his foot on the gas and me working the MoTeC. Got her into 3rd gear, as opposed to first and started the sniffer. Ended up pulling about 20% fuel from 1500-2250rpms and right around the 40-60% effiecency mark (roughly the same in kpa) to acheive a L of ~.98. I generally have her running ~.9-.92 in that range.

Someone else showed for a test so we pulled my car out, I was done anyway, pulled a honduh in for the CT Emmisions test and that failed  then pulled my car back in, again no door dings but one stall.

Here's what happened next -

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1259009111

:D This was done on regular 93 oct, Idemitsu PREMIX IN the tank mixed at about 1/2 oz/gal AND the OMP working as well. This is more oil than what is recc'd but I was doing some SEVERE back road jaunts yesterday with a few local rotorheads so I added a little extra lube love. No alcohol tricks, no crazy advanced timing, no pumping cubic acres of air into the exhaust, no air pump at all and BOTH tail-pipes being sniffed and she still passed. Who says you can't have a street/emmisions legal 400+ RWHP rotary???

Oh, and the engine survived this time with all her sideseals intack  Coolant hit 188* and oil hit 170*, hood open, no fans though, but there was a garden hose present that I noticed JIC.

How is that? I thought TN was one of the states? Or is becuase your car will be beyond the 25 yr mark? My FC only has 1 more test to pass 2 yrs from now, the FD though, needs another 5 tests... if it was running today... ugh. Knowing me though, I'll have her finishished when she only needs 1

That's about it in a nutshell.;) Here in NC for instance,..( Mecklenburg county,..Charlotte area) EVERY car has to be smogged that is year model 96' and newer. I have property in Polk County( Saluda, NC,..AKA: "The sticks") And NO cars need to be smogged at all. It has to due with population levels here in NC anyways.

If there is not a mass of people living in one area, it is not profitable for the states to make you get smogged. Do NOT be fooled: Smog has NOTHING to do with the enviorment. It's all about the bejamins baby!!

Intresting off topic fact about TN: It is illegal for women to drive a automobile!...UNLESS, her husband is running and yelling in front of the car, WHILE waving a red flag to warn oncomers of the impending doom. True fact. TN FTW!!!

TitaniumTT 11-24-2009 07:04 AM

HAAHAHAHAAHA - Thanks awesome. I WISH someone would get pulled over for that. Excuse me bitch, where's you husband warning us?
What,
Get out of the car, we're going to need to tow it
HUH?
NO FLAG, NO DRIVE!

That's so awesome.

BTW -

From the weekend run in NY. The camera and editing is done by Steve, the owner of the turbo 8 that I'm trying to keep up. Those things HANDLE and my RT 615's are worn.... still, the 8's move through the turns!

Nismo 11-24-2009 01:19 PM

I told you the turkey call on the blow off valve was a bad idea!

TitaniumTT 11-24-2009 02:16 PM

 That thing was close.... worst part, that's the second time in as many months that I almost sucked a turkey into the VMIC..... stupid things. After that vid we turned around to drive it again. We saw a family of four across the street, where the bastard originated from, and a large pile of poo right after a 15ish' tire mark....... ok maybe no poo

Nismo 11-24-2009 03:04 PM

Turkeys are stupid, but fun to shoot!!!

TitaniumTT 11-24-2009 03:38 PM

Yes, yes they are. If I was driving my truck I would've aimed for it as opposed to away from it. My old house was swarmed with those things. Walked out side one morning and my Shepard bolted off the deck and chased one into the woods. They are fricken hilarious when they attempt to fly. Later that week I caught one on the peak of the roof

Turkeys can fly, just too fat to do so, well laziness doesn't help, I was in the blind turkey hunting and saw one trying to get over the fence to mate with a hen, kept pacing back and forth, totally forgot he could fly over the fence, so I shot him... Survival of the fittest is still alive and well in the animal kingdom!

I must say, I laughed and clapped at the same time you did in the video immediately after the turkey incident... it was weird.... and then it made me laugh even harder.

TitaniumTT 11-24-2009 05:05 PM

haahahaahahaa.... Yeah, I think everyone on the road that day has been sending me txts - dud1.. the turkey was AWESOME!

20 seconds after that happened we all pulled over. I lost Sinned (the black FD - GORGEOUS car) and when he pulled over he asked, did anyone else smell tire? I laughed and told him what happened, then like a giddy female social group on the side of the road we pulled the camera and checked the vid, laughing hysterically.

FC3S Murray 11-25-2009 09:21 AM

Yup - In VA, most of your counties are free of emissions but all require visual inspection (cat, air intakes, smog pump, etc). For me - I lived and worked in Loudoun county where they had emissions, so I kept my RX vehicles registered to my parents address as being "garaged in" their county so I never had to worry about emissions. Now that I've moved back to the "sticks" I dont have to do that loophole any more.

Side note... northern VA counties are going to start using (some already have I believe) sniffers on the ramps in our metro areas to sniff your car as it passes... tell me how thats going to work!?

Its all a money making scheme - we have more people in Fairfax county than most STATES all together. Our population between DC and Prince William is insane - thats the only reason they run emissions there...

Nice video - although, I almost feel like the editing/commentary was poking fun at the FC, lol... "Look at the gap the RX8 puts on the old FC" "Look at how good the RX8 is", etc... they should send that to mazda for their next commercial, they need to start selling more RX8s!

:D Me too man, me too - thanks. The spool is just about instant. It's SICK! I don't think I ever hit full throttle or full boost. I seriously need some traction control over the winter. I've already starting talking with MoTeC about it. Doesn't seem like it'll be too bad on the old wallet either. One one route won't be. I was thinking about an expansion box so I could do a little AUX playing around, but I just don't need it. The AIT's are are fine, there's really no need so I think I'm just going to get the traction control expansion box which is like 20% of the cost.

Yeah man, those things were nuts. The silver one was on C/O's and NT-01's. STOCK engine with a catback. Basiaclly 190RWHP vs my 405 and I couldn't really keep up. They were pushing it harder than me, but still, yeah, sticky little mothers, I destroyed them on the higway though

Didn't CA try that? Retarded

Nice video - although, I almost feel like the editing/commentary was poking fun at the FC, lol... "Look at the gap the RX8 puts on the old FC" "Look at how good the RX8 is", etc... they should send that to mazda for their next commercial, they need to start selling more RX8s!

Yeah I know, but it was destined for the 8 club so I can see why they did it. We're heading out again this w/e if the weather holds, I'll push her a little harder. I'm still waiting on the vid that was on the back of Steve's RX8 pointing at me. Oh well, what can ya do. The turkey was awesome though. That twice now I almost pulled into the bumper.

It really wasn't a "whoa" or a word..in any language for that matter. Actually was the sound a person makes like.. lets say when your stomach shifts and you realize you are about to shit your pants and there is nothing you can do. OR it is the sound one would make after waking up in a strange place after a crazy party night next to a hermaphrodite and seeing a used condom on the night stand table. Yeah.., that is the sound for sure.

btw I have no idea what the 2nd description is like NOR have I been there, I just imagine that is how one would react vocally.
