Planning. . . yes. . . but, not if I have to get a room on my own for the whole event. I don't think I have enough bargaining chips to swing that expense by the wifey!!! I sent a PM to Kyle. . . we'll see how that goes down.

Replied.

Vinnie,
Yea.. it's between 70k and 80k miles on it. Closer to 80k really at this point. I don't think it'll get there though. It's coming out soon. REW on order.

The GM coils that BHR uses for their kit have an auto-discharge to save the coil if the dwell time gets too high. Mazda calc dwell at crank based on voltage and RPM. So if the battery is dying or it's a particularily cold morning and the engine is cranking slowly, the coil can auto discharge and sheer the apex seal.... while starting.
How do I know this, I was warned about the coils YEARS ago by a MoTeC Engineer, and I've seen it, or spoken to someone about it three times now.

Noooooooooooooo! Turbo's don't belong on an RX8!

Johnny_K 02-21-2017 10:35 AM

^ sure they do if it powered by a REW or 20b.

TitaniumTT 02-21-2017 10:43 AM

Negative. The subframe on the RX8 makes it nearly impossible to get a turbo in a decent spot. The mani's are either too long, or too short, it's just a nightmare no matter how it's done. And I would rather see an LS in an 8 than an N/A 20B.... now a shorty P-Port 20B would be something that I could get on board with

Johnny_K 02-21-2017 11:23 AM

^ pfft, this doesn't look complicated at all ;-)

Except that the turbo it practically mounted outside the engine bay LOL. . :)

Just the 20b block and assembly was going to cost me more than the entire REW build for my same HP goal range. In fact... I could swap the RX8 and MR2 for the cost of the 20b build. I tried to work my budget every way I could think of, but I couldn't support the 20b cost right now.

Less turbo, less problems.

You'll see.
