So I swapped the clutch and installed the rebuilt transmission this weekend. The Centerforce Dual Friction I removed appears to still have a lot of life left on it, is there still a market for these? I'd sell it cheap if there's any interest in it.

I am waiting on oil I ordered from my AmsOil guy and an output shaft seal from Atkins Rotary to arrive so I can button everything up. I tried getting this seal locally from Oreillys but for whatever reason neither of the manual or auto seals were correct. . They couldn't cross-reference it either but luckily Atkins pulled through :o15:

I had to remove the fancy coil mount kit to remove the long starter bolt and as I laid it to the side I felt something protruding from one of the coil-to-plug adapters. . here's what I found:

One of the detents for the plug weren't seated completely and the bad connection caused it to get hot enough to melt almost completely through the plastic housing.

I'm no longer going to be using the COP adapters and will be replacing them with tailored wired. I'll still use the coil mount, just not as it was intended.

Since the power harness was mostly disconnected, I completely removed it with hopes of replacing it with a new harness (mine is in very rough shape). I contacted Chris Ludwig to see if he can do this, if not does anyone have any recommendations on where this can be built or purchased?

Bring it to DGRR and wait for someone to blow a turbo clutch and sell it expensive. Of course I'll be the one looking for a clutch

I responded in your Alt thread.... otherwise there's always buying a new one for like $400.... they're still available per MazdaMotorsports ;)

Fixed :cheers2: I had extra MSD Super Conductor wire from previous builds but unfortunately had to scavenge from a new box for 8 boots and terminals

Sweet, thanks! that may be a better option. . . probably cheaper too. When you say "MazdaMotorsports", like a dealership?

Trans seal arrived while asleep today and oil picked up from Amsoil guy, will hopefully get this done in the morning.

Before going to sleep today I installed my shifter and ran through the gears but couldn't get it to go in fifth or reverse :Wconfused: I don't recall the engine having to be running to go in these gears. . could this simply be gears not aligned to allow the hub to slide in position? ?

:awesome:

Too bad they didn't live longer. I would've been curious to see if they made a real world difference in power on the dyno. Ironically.... well.... was it a leading or a trailing that took a shit?

Negative, like MazdaSpeed, factory parts from shipped from Canada for dealer wholesale. Need to have legit race results though to qualify

Not usually. I would drive that bitch quick in case something is fuxored with the trans. That cost me DGRR '10 was a bad rebuild on a tranny. Couldn't get 5th or 6th and then it jammed in fourth and I rage quit :(

That one was a trailing but looking at the discoloration of the contact on another plug (L2) it appeared that it could have started on another. I'm not knocking on the design since it was retrofitted to work on a 2nd gen 13b but I'd still say some of it is design flaw.

Well, I guess this isn't an option. Thanks for getting my hopes up :(

Before going any further and completely wasting my time by reconnecting drive shaft, heat shields, exhaust. . . As well as wasting $60 in Amsoil and that damn seal I searched around for. I started it up (I did have to reinstall that janky harness though) and tried shifting with the engine idling, still no luck :( man what a last couple of days! Nothing is going right, I almost fell through the ceiling Sunday afternoon! Got a hole in the bedroom to prove it LOL. . . This too shall pass! :)

Holy crap on the COP adapters! I guess it's a good thing I never worked out a mounting scheme. Hopefully this is just indicative of the "variation" of the IGN-1A coils and not Peter's work. I'll stick with my coils mounted on top of the engine for now.

FC Zach 03-07-2017 11:25 AM

I believe it is a coil issue, I had to modify the adapters to snap in place.

TitaniumTT 03-07-2017 12:43 PM

That's so unfortunate about the trans :(

Well shit, at least there's time and it's not 02:00 on Friday Morning the day before DGRR

FC Zach 03-07-2017 12:44 PM

True

FC Zach 03-07-2017 02:02 PM

Good news guys! ! I found the problem! The shifter housing spring loaded return and detent weren't assembled correctly and prevented the shifter from moving on that side. I took it apart and the lever shifted freely into both gears! It's beer thirty now! :cheers2:

So happy I don't have to remove and replace another tranny :)

TitaniumTT 03-07-2017 02:17 PM

 WOOT for easy fixes! If only my trans were that easy to fix :smilielol5:

FC Zach 03-07-2017 03:34 PM

I'm glad it was an easy fix, sure did save me a lot of headache! Now the search continues for the power harness. Oh yeah, I still gotta fix that alternator issue too.

TitaniumTT 03-07-2017 04:17 PM
