I've seen a few detailed pics of that hood, the first riser is what kinda turns me off. After all is said and done though I'll probably have close to $3-400 in materials and about 40 hours into the hood, it would've been cheaper for me to buy one, but then I would be breaking a cardinal rule for this car....... no bolt-ons allowed  Quote:

Nah, hadn't heard/read anything about it. Doubt I could swing it right now though, I need money...lots of it. |

Well, the hoods painted, just need a little more time to finish the cut 'n buff. Here's something VERY annoying though. Drove out to Dave's yesterday to discuss some winter projects. When I left I had ~38psi of fuel pressure @ idle. On the drive out I was getting CRAZY fluctuations... as in steady state cruise it would bounce from 30 - 39 psi. By the time I got to KDR, the Fpsi was ~35psi @ idle. By the I got home last night, it was <30psi @ idle. Looks like my MOTHERFUCKING FUEL FILTER IS GETTING CLOGGED AGAIN!!!!!! Not concerend about the engine as I jacked the tip-in and added 15% fuel across the board. L was always in the .8-mid.9's except in tip-in she would go lean for a split second but not buck at all, would hit 1.1-1.2. Still not boosting the engine so all should be fine. I'm calling Tim shortly to order 2 paper filters and talk to him about cleaning the stainless one. This is really pissing me off. |
Damn man. WTF is the deal?
I wonder if I should get a fuel pressure sensor linked to my datalogit. I really dont know what my pressure is doing while cruising. |

I think a few filters are definitely what you'll need for now! That is craziness with the fuel clogging up....
You may be a good candidate for a fuel cell, lol... this whole thing has me nervous about redoing my fuel tank over the winter.. I want to get it blasted and coated, but man not if its going to cause all these issues! |
I wonder how fast you will have to drive before you pull enough vac to pull the air through it.

Aight, I'm going to clean a fuel filter................. AGAIN |
Wait - so the hood is painted now and we still dont have new pics? I dont care if it is almost midnight damnit!
Now just send your hood to Shine so they can make a mold and our cars can have even more in common :) |
Those damn fuel filters. It's not even my car, and I'm getting frustrated .

Have I mentioned I hate you and your awesome fab skills?? Just checking... thats one thing I am not good at - bodywork/fab work. Mainly because I have limited experience with it..
That hood turned out great... and I'm with you on the whole Shine thing. Thats my frustration right now. I was in on a few GB they put together but they take FOREVER.. I want to place a bulk order for the parts to save on shipping... but they havent given a realistic timeframe on when to expect parts, so I'll probably just start ordering them separate and hope after the 3rd or 4th order they'll cut me some "slack" for being a repeat buyer so much.. they were awesome when I bought the fenders, but ever since.. not so hot.. If you get that hood to an FG/CF guy, I'd take one if CF tomorrow... and I could pick it up :) We need more east coast fabricators... |
Hood came out awesome :icon_tup:
|
Man you really do great body work you mofo!
WTF is going on with your fuel system? I am trying the think where the foriegn contaminent could come from..??...? |

Looking back at some of the things I built when I first started, they're disgraceful. But practive makes perfect and all that shit. My car was the first car that I ever painted too. Looking at some of the pieces that I painted first, well, they were painted more than once lets just leave it at that ;) Quote:

I dunno where this shit is coming from. The only thing that I can think of is that I missed it when I cleaned this tank out. That shit is dirt and grit. This is my buddies tank that sat for a year or two, somewhat opened. It also had 2 or 3 holes drilled into the top of it. I dunno. She's on stands right now, I'm going to clean the main filter and the pre-filter again before tomorrows dyno. Should have some numbers, pics, and a vid or two up tomorrow night or sunday morning.. woot! |
I've got the vid camera all charged up :)
I hope to practice painting and fab work more in the future, right now, my two car is too tiny, lol... |

What are you Running for a fuel pump Brian? Just thinking the impeller might be eating it self, fuel lines could be eating it?

He said 'should' EJ, damn... Give 'em a break, lololol.

So I had a few little things to finish up today, hardwire the GPS, replace a trun signal bulb, little shit. I figure once I get those done I'll clean the filter and the sock again as the Fpsi was down about a pound. I dunno what the fuck I did but I put everything back together and there was like 10-15psi......... limped home and now I've got the tank drained and cleaning the tank, replacing the sock, the little piece of fuel line, I've cleaned that main filter a FEW times with just about everything I can think of as well as blasting fuel through it bakcwards. I think what I may even do is run like five gallons through it backwards, as in hook up the fuel filter in reverse, throw a bunch of gas in the tank and run it through the filter in reverse back into the fave gallon container and then run that through the lawnmower or something..... Every time before I head to Dave's something happens and I'm up almost all fucking night. You can bet your sweet sweet BAW ass that I'll be pulling that filter once I get to Daves though before she gets strapped down. Oh, filled the lines with brakeklean and blasted 135 psi of air through those as well and some ..... interesting shit came out. Repeated that until the entire can was spent........ so fucking pissed...... SOOOO FUCKING PISSED!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not an angry person but I think I may have to find a circus midget to rape and then stab in the eye later on tonight |

YAY!!!! for all nighters........... no wait.... that's not right.... BOOOOOOOOOOO Off to KDR |

Looks like you may wanna take you tank out and take it to be cleaned, then run all new stainless AN hardlines to and from the tank.
Sounds like it's worse than my car. |

The tanks filler was painted on the inside, just the short little section and it was flaking so I scotchbrited that down and then flushed the tank until I could get no more contamanients out of it. The filter I think I'm going to replace with a pysically larger one. I spent hours cleaning that filter and I'm not convinced that it's clean, or ever will be for that matter. It's fucking epoxy for crying out loud that plugged a 10 micron filter. I think it's fucked forever. Quote:

So yesterday @ KDR was............... interesting. Bill came up which was really cool and his FE put down some really nice numbers for a bone stock 8, I'll let him fill you in on the details as I was only there for one pull. In my sleep deprived state I got lost on the backroads and ended up driving through cornfields, litterally.
I am now referring to my Most Ungrateful Mistriss as a Dyno Queen. Why you ask? Because every time we go to the dyno, we strap her down and she just sits there, all day, on her thrown doing nothing. So we strap her down and the conversation with Dave goes like this, What do ya wanna do Bri? Obligitory compression test of course. You really wanna know? I think so..... if somethings off I'd like to know before we chunk the motor. Good point, ok lets see what we get. Front rotor was perfect - 115 on all three faces. Rear was like 120, 120, 120, 120, 88, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 88, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 88, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 125, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 88. Sticking apex seal :banghead: Not every revolution mind you, ever third or forth it would hang up just a touch and miss. The fear Dave had is the seal will get stuck out as it crosses the minor axis and shear off, chunking the entire rear. So we bullshat the rest of the day until it was time to leave, then Dave tells me, Get this piece of shit outta my shop, I wanna go home and run my dozer  So Bill and I left and had lunch and dealt with all the country bumkin stares and comments as two rotaries pulled into a very locals type place that Dave sent us to for food. So now the plan is to pull the engine, clamp the int plate to the front plate so nothing shifts in the front, pull the rear rotor and find what we think is a sticking corner seal thats holding the Apex seal up. I do remember when I was clearancing the rotors that one corner seal wouldn't pop up ever time. I moved it to a different corner and the seal was fine, this tells me the recess in the rotor itself is a little off. So I grabbed a different corner seal and tried that. Better, but not perfect. So I worked that recess until I was happy. Apparently not enough. Oh well.... Bill made a good point, it's not a rebuild so we can't call it engine 5, we're calling it 4.5  Hopefully I'll get it done this week and I'll be back @ KDR next Sat :001_005: |

Don't lie... you forgot the camcorder, made like 400hp, then were like "oh shit! Ejay demanded video..... um..... excuse....excuse..... uhhhh STUCK CORNER SEAL!" |
FFFFUUUUUUU-
Good luck, good thing you found it before it went bad. |

I'm going to try to keep a daily log this week complete with hours of how long this actually takes
Tonight - engine is ready to pull - time = 2 hours http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1251693960 |
All I can say is there needs to be an award for "the most patience with a rotary ever" and that Brian should get said award right now...
I got a call from Brian at 11pm Friday night getting the low down on the current situation and when we got off the phone about an hour later, I couldnt believe he was going through all this again with the fuel system! I received a text at 6:45am that he had just got the car together and was on his way down... thats NO sleep from 11pm all the way through.. this man is dedicated!! I told Dave my history of bringing bad luck to the dyno's and to not let me dyno first, and this is what happens! EJ - to his defense, I was sitting ready and willing with the video camera, lol. Once they pulled the comp test, I thought it best to put the camera down - no need for evidence of what may have been the destruction of a perfectly clean FC caught on tape :). I'm more than impressed with Dave though at KDR, the man is awesome... I really cant wait to see you yank that year rotor out and find it be as simple as the corner seal! Engine 4DOT5 is the one... I can feel it! It'd be sweet if you get that comp test sorted out on the Motec though too... at least that will save you some drive time... |
