My 'vert is about as perfect as I can get it, other than it being slow, smelly, loud, etc.

However, it rattles and squeaks like a bastard.

My question is, can I do anything about that? New body mounts? I'm debating yanking the carpet and putting down Dynamat or whatever to quiet it a bit, but what else can I do to stop the rattles and squeaks?

make sure the body panels are on tight? i almost typed, "make sure the hatch is tight" haha. i have accepted that i will never be able to stop all the little rattles and what not.

My windows rattle like crazy in my vert. They haven't fallen out or broken, so I don't really care. I also plan to put a large stereo in mine, so it won't be an issue anymore.

I'd say lay down a little dynamat. It will cut down on the road noise a little bit with the top up, but I think the rattles will have to be some tightening.

My front shock mounts squeak when it's cold. My top rattles because the white bushings where the targa section connects are missing. Shocks are completely worn out... yeah I have quite a few rattles on bumpy roads with the top up. When it's down... who cares!

At some point I'm replacing all the bushings, shocks, mounts and everything else I can on the old girl. Then I guess I'll see what's left making noises.

i would also add check all the rubber bushings on the car.

I replaced the four bushings on the front suspension, and it quieted down my vert a little. But not enough.

I remember when it was absolutely stone quiet. Much of my noises are coming from the 17" wheels and lowpros and from the bonz centerpipe with a single cat.

I plan to go back to the three origional cats to get the noise down again. And if that is not enough, I will try 16" tires.

This is a concern of mine also....

i got squeeks in the rear, but i'm completely gutted from behind the seats.

Yeah, thats definetly a mission impossible :)

Honestly, if you have alot of drivetrain squeaks/creeks I'd suggest getting under it with some lube and goign wild. Some teflon/silicone spray on the bushings and linkages will do more then you may think. Even if you go to the extent of swapping out all the bushings, you'll end up having more noise since you'll be running urethane bushings afterwards.

As far as in cabin rattles/etc you just need to track them down and repair/use rubber washers/extra screws etc. to mend them. Chassis noise is one of the more difficult things to pinpoint and eliminate entirely on any car, not to mention a 20+ year old sports car.

Why not just get Racing Beat's system if you want a decent, not TOO loud exhaust for your car?

Why not just get Racing Beat's system if you want a decent, not TOO loud exhaust for your car?

Cost.

I don't really want to spend a load and then find out that the RB system is still much too loud for my taste - than have to spend again to get something quieter. If there was a way to hear it first, I might consider it, but since I want the car to be as quiet as new, and since I remember that each time I made a move from stock, it got progressively louder, I might as well go back to the new configuration.

The RB exhaust is really nice and not loud at all. It's just right in my opinion, and I HATE loud exhausts.

Unfortunately for me, I actually remember how my vert sounded with 0 miles on the odo -- that's what I want again (talk about a mission improbable).

I remember scaring several people who almost had a heart attack when they wern't paying attention and I pulled up in the car with no noise.

I also remember sitting in the car and having to look at the tach to see if it was running before I tried to start it.

That was quiet!

Lol, I remember my 1991 NA when I first got it. You could hear the air pump and the belts whining over the exhaust. I prefer it now.

My current set up is an RB downpipe, RB silencer, and an Apexi N1 Evo catback, which has a built in silencer. It actually is very quiet.......until you UNLEASH HELL!!!!!!!

No, actually it does get louder after about 4K, but not inside, behind is a different story.
