Well fellas, it's been a good run. I love this little FB and met my goal of my first SCCA Class Championship (Regional). It is an excellent autocross car! I have automotive ADD however and a new class opened up for next year (STR) that cross-breeds to a PCA Class (Improved-1) so I am selling the 7 to buy a 944. Don't worry, I will still be around (and a rotorhead) and next time I'm thinking either a minty fresh SA (lime green metallic with fender mirrors!) or a GSL-SE.
So, on to the ad:
1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL 12A Rotary, 5-Speed Manual trans, factory removable sunroof, power windows, cruise, manual steering, removed A/C completely.
Mods:
Engine: DEI-wrapped Racing Beat Streetport 12A Header, custom 2.5 collector, mandrel-bent 2.5 single exhaust, Dynomax Race Bullet resonator, Summit welded race muffler, dual stainless steel tip, fresh NGK plugs, Magnecor KV85 Competition Wires, Racing Beat double pulley drive w/ air pump delete, RB smog plate delete, disabled shutter valve, fresh rotor/cap/dual belts/oil, and filter.
Drivetrain: RP 75W90 in rear axle and transmission, SA driveshaft/yoke/flange with larger heavy duty rebuildable Spicer u-joints, new Exedy clutch kit (OEM), new rear axle bearings, races, and seals on both sides. New RB SS clutch line.
Brakes: Performance Friction front pads, DOT4 fluid flush, factory rear disc setup.
Tires/Wheels: 195/60/14 Falken Azenis Rt-615s mounted on hand polished/painted LE mesh wheels (14x6) with NOS Mazda polished metal "+" center caps (instead of the crappy black plastic ones).
Other: Ractive red suede racing buckets on FC rails, new battery, alternator, and starter (both have lifetime warranties and the starter has a new solenoid as well).
269 Autocross runs since 2/2008. The car itself is in great shape with NO rust. The driver's door was hit and I have a spare red door that may or may not be installed by the time it sells (I'm trying to get it on but it won't stop raining!). Interior is in the process of being properly converted to black (new OEM carpet front and back, all original black plastics going in, the only dyed parts are the door panels).
It drives nicely and the rotary runs excellent! Trans shifts nice except downshifting into 2nd grinds once in awhile from high RPM. Rear diff has a bad bearing and whines but is drivable, I have a few options for the buyer. 1: A factory GSL LSD diff from another RX-7 that can be included or installed or 2: complete GSL-SE suspension and rear axle could be included for extra (but then you can sell the wheels for $800 easy). It kinda depends on what happens with the potential buyer (RE: you). It is fully drivable as-is, no problem!
Throw a paint job and a set of shocks on it and it would be a very, very nice car. It is a very, very good autocross car that is capable of beating much faster/more powerful cars due to it's nimbleness and eagerness (it has beaten Z06's, a Viper, and multiple 911's). Was STS class legal last season (old STS2) and won the Oregon Region SCCA Season Championship. The 12A is smooth up to 8,500 and loves racing, it is honestly the best rotary I have ever owned or driven which has been quite a lot. We had 3 drivers sharing the car in Packwood (National Tour site) in August for a PROSOLO in 95 heat running back-to-back-to-back and it never even hiccupped. Something like 30 runs in a 45-minute period without even being shut off.
For $2000 obo you get the car and all the spares (including LSD rear diff, spare interior parts, and other racing goodies not mentioned). For an extra $400 you also get a GSL-SE suspension and axle.
Will trade (plus cash) for a Porsche 944.
Located in Kelso, WA but can deliver to WA or OR along the I-5 corridor. Clean title, current tags/tabs, drives great!
