My bro's RX-8 has just started to have the dreaded vibration at idle and shifts are kinda clunky. First thing on my mind is motor mounts! I did some research on the RX-8 club forum and the Mazdatrix website. Seems only OEM and upgraded OEM are available, with a heat shielded bracket.

I'm not interested in OEM. I've had great success in 1st gens and older rotary Mazdas with competition mounts (40% stiffer than stock) and hockey pucks (60% or more stiffer).

Not interested in hard mounts either. I want something that drives like the good old competition mounts for a 1st gen. Some give, but noticeably stiffer than stock. Does anyone make aftermarket mounts for the RX-8 yet?

Short answer, NO. Sorry...there are solid mounts out there but they tend to cause the engine support brackets to fail and break easier. I know some have modded the stock mounts with some kind of shoring compound but that's about it.

Looks like upgraded OEM is a possibility then. Thankyou!

There are a few ways to address the OEM mounts, but it depends on your goals.
I've filled a couple of sets with different urethanes which works fairly well, but increases the NVH considerably, even if the Shore is fairly soft.
I have an insert I'm bringing to market soon that will address a lot of the "floppyness", but its not the same thing as a solid mount.

I have some prototype urethane mounts... but they are not available for retail per se; but again they are basically refilled stock mounts.

I look forward to seeing what you're gonna throw out there Jeff.
