Ok, I was running a ACT street/strip set up awhile back. Lots of drag racing with it. It finally went out on me about 1 year ago. I upgraded to the SPEC stage 3+ which is some metalic compound. Rated at 500+ft lbs torque. I broke it in with 1000 easy miles. (1000 miles because I was also breaking ina new motor that had to be taken back out for oring failure and then another 500 miles on the next motor). Then started running it harder and harder. While on the dyno it started to slip just a tad. I really did not know 100% forsure if it was. Later while doing some more high boost street tuning it started to slip in 3rd gear bad. I pulled it out tonight and it is burnt bad. Even wear but it was very harsh on my light flywheels. Wore pretty good into the disk, 4 times more than my act did with 30-35k miles. This Spec has maybe 3k on it.

Mike, I thought stage 3s were 6 puck from Spec?

The stage 3 is indeed a 6 puck....but this is a stage 3+ which is a disc. :icon_tup:

But also on RX7 store, it says the stage 3 is rated at 520ft lbs torque, and the stage 3+ is rated at 598ft lbs torque....how the hell could it be toasted with only 400ft lbs torque when thats only like 2/3's of what it is rated at?!

I think you are right Phil, but this is a 3+ Rated even higher. (rated at 598 lbs)

Bingo!!!! Thats my complaint. It is not doing what it should be doing. It is also very harsh on aluminum flywheels which they advertise as not.. If it was rated below what I was doing then there would be no complaint. I called and spoke with Jeremy @ SPEC before I bought this unit. I told him my goals and he assured me this one would hold. Now after all this I was told no replacement or credit as its been too long. Which it has since I lost my act clutch in the late fall. I did not even put the new one (spec 3+) in till spring only to find out I lost a motor when the clutch let go. SO back under the knife new motor in, has instant oring failure, months later back up, more break in, finally a tune and here I am know!!!. So all in all the clutch has been in the car for 3 years with less than 3k miles. = toast!

Sk8.. What light flywheel is that? I have the same one and need a new friction plate insert for it. I am now running a new ACT light fly and a Spec stage 3 (6 puck). It is quite harsh but grips well so far. I do not like the noises that my drivetrain makes now. Sounds evil on engagement. Oh well such is life. G

Mine is a Pettit. I know back in the day Sr racing offered one also. I bought a new disk from pETTIT for $80. They still show it on there site. I will have to get another also to complete mine for sale. The SPEC stage 3 is VERY harsh. I sent pics to SPEC and Mic the thickness on my disk last night. He said I had less than .02 wear on it. BUT it wore my flywheel 3-5 times more than my last act 40-50k mile disk.

I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS SPEC STAGE 3+ TO ANYONE! IN FACT AFTER SEEING THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING SPEC!

I read from another site that this clutch is not suitable for street.
It is for race and has to be HEATED up first before it will stick.

Well I never just go crazy on the boost cold. The car is always driven well into operated temps. The main fact is i spoke and orderd this thru David (which I think is the owner) and told them what I had, what I would be doing with the car and this is what they sold me directly.

Funny on the heat issue.. It slipped after 8-10 dyno pulls. So heating it up was not the anwser.

I mic'ed it and was told it had .02 of wear on it. They offered to rebuild it at cost, but that was as far as they would go.
