A certain incident that involved "street racing" has rekindled an awareness for needing a drag strip in our county

Watch the video too. Andy is a good friend of mine, as is Mike (who was not on the video, but was the other ticketed driver)

Now, this is not to condone street racing, but rather to give us an outlet to which we can enjoy our hobby legally. For those of you who aren't aware, a gentleman by the name of Greg Sanford was willing to foot the entire bill to have a dragstrip put in a small town just outside of lincoln. He had the land bought and everything. Only needed approval to have a motorsports complex built specifically. After a few hearings (one of which our own local forum flooded with members to show for support), ultimately it was shot down. Not only do I and many of my fellow peers/gearheads disagree with this decision, but we will not give up on trying.

I created this facebook group to help raise awareness again that there is tons of support to have a dragstrip built. I understand that none of you will probably be local or effect you in any way, but I'm sure some of you rotorheads can understand our plea for something that many of us find necessary to have. There are a lot of benefits to having this drag strip built, one of the biggest being money pumped into our city/county/state.

Congrats man, it's a bitch to go up against city officials for something like this. I hope it all works out. What reasons did they give for turning this down?

Check out www.buildthetrack.com - for ideas on what we are doing in Hawaii.

Good luck.
With all the problems with city / state budgets, race tracks are NOT a priority right now.

Good point - but one can always try!

this one is going to be privately funded. the last time it was shot down the guy that wanted to build it had the money/funding he needed and only needed approval, no government money was needed to fund this. The reason they shot it down last is because they decided to make a new law restricting the noise level within a certain distance of a cemetery. Or at least that's how I understood it. They created the noise law at the same time as we were trying to get the track built last time, and someone on the board (county) later came forward and admitted to creating it to stifle the track.

that's part of our argument and what got the debate going again, two of my friends got busted for street racing and the state patrol/police department is blowing it out of proportion as a victory for them so we're fighting back

wow, how shitty...what could possibly drive them to oppose this? Nothing is more important than the safety of the town's citizens....right?

Keep doing it, litter and cause trouble at all your street racing spots, make them hate street racing so they're forced to get this track built. Keep doing it until they pull their heads out of their asses and decide to be part of the solution.

I don't think illegally racing will help the situation at all. If anything, it'll be more of a reason for them to think that racing is stupid. I feel for you all and I'd love to show some support even though I'm all the way in San Francisco. Keep it up and hopefully you will have your way.
One thing though, how about you make up some excuse to race in the lot that was bought. Make it so that it's for some "charity" event for cancer...everyone will share some love for that.
