Test fitting the 20B turbo manifold..

Well, I got this from BNR, whom got it from "Big" John aka 20B 3rd Gen.. BNR didn't need it so I decided to pick it up.

Anyhow, It fits pretty good.. I see couple of issues but doesn't seem to be that major..

-One of the stud is really hard to get to and not sure if I could get a nut to it
-flange is not for my turbo so I need to change that out
-one of the bend pipe is almost touching the LIM (front housing pipe), I think i just need to shave the LIM a little.

Turbo is Turbonetic T78 BB

Waste gate is some Greddy one :)

What do you guys think.. You think i'll have some issues with the one of the runner touching the LIM?? you could see it on the last pic..

From the looks of the pick, the runner that hits the LIM is stopping the manifold from seating to the block all the way.

Have to play around with it, you can probably grind enough off the LIM to make it go on, take a little from here, little from there etc.

I'd think it would be OK as long as it doesn't touch and you're using some wrap or shields.

Decent manifold though :)

Worst case (and assuming there's room between the turbo/manifold and frame) is to space it out with another flange, or 3 12A individual flanges.

You can change the exhaust flange to a thicker one. That will give you the clearance you need ... Aluminum soaks the heat especially if its touching the runner.. Its really up to you..

Yeah, I thought about going with thicker SS flange and grind out the LIM a bit.. then put that gold foil stuff to block out some heat near the flange..

Currently its mild steel RB flange, and no gaskets. Gaskets will bring out the manifold a bit... I also need to check if the turbo will hit the rails or something in the bay

is it just me or does that wastegate seem a bit on the small side for a 20b? what are the specs on the turbo?

Turbo is something I had for years.. It was rebuilt with new center and was used by Demetrius back in the days. I was told dual ball bearing and it does spin like a ball bearing turbo. ITs Turbonetic T76 BB... Not 100% on the spec..

what size exhaust housing is that i didnt have any issues with mine touching the LIM.....nevermind its the piping hitting still though mine still never hit

47mm will be too small IMO. My Turbosmart 46mm unit was not capable of controlling boost and I had boost creep with the same size turbo you are running. Bought a Synapse 50mm unit which gives the flow of a 60mm unit.

no worries.. if it hits just double the gaskets up.. Thats what I have done in the past. I have scene guys get away with smaller gates then needed. I guess its all in how well placed they are and how much boost is going to be run...

The flange just needs some studs put in there to make the turbine housing bolt up. That wouldn't take me 10 minutes to do.
