Hey everyone!
I wanted to update all RX8 owners here on the Rotary Car Club that we're very close to releasing a new RX8 mid-pipe using a single resonator design.
We conducted various sound tests comparing the midpipe to a stock RX8 exhaust, aftermarket exhaust and also to an RX8 using a popular dual resonated midpipe.
You can view the video here:

Using a single resonator we are able to tone down the raspy sound that is generated by straight exhaust in the rotary. What you're left with is an amplified sound generated by your cat back exhaust.
Once we have pricing information and pictures I'll be sure to post them up. If you're interested in getting on our pre-order list feel free to PM me. We're not taking any payments until the midpipes are in production.
I'll have more within a week.

So, with the pictures out there I wanted to address a couple things which I've been getting questions about...
I've had some people asking me about pre-silencers and things along that nature. This is not, I repeat, not a dual resonated mid-pipe. One of the unique aspects is we have been able to produce a great tone without resorting to a dual resonated mid-pipe. There are two major advantages to this design.
First, we are able to produce a pipe which is lighter than other dual resonated versions. We're in the process of having the pipe weighed for comparison. The other aspect is the resonator doesn't contain any glass or steel wool packing which could blow out due to the excessive EGT's produced by the rotary. Having no packing means there's no risk of the pipe's sound changing over the life of it's use.
Ditching your cat has a few benefits. First, freeing up some restriction in the exhaust system means more air out. This can translate into a very slight power gain. The real gains are realized with custom tuning where you can run leaner Air/fuel mixtures and not have to worry about cat life. Second, you can pre-mix and run higher OMP injection without fear of clogging a cat.
Finally, a single resonator means no issues with fitting the pipe. This pipe will fit both automatic and manual transmissions. You also get all the mounting hardware necessary including OEM gaskets.
If you're looking for a mid-pipe that will not get you stopped for a loud exhaust or annoy your friends/neighbors with raspy sound this is the pipe for you. This will be the last mid-pipe you will ever have to buy for the RX8. The pipe is of superior quality and is produced locally here in Phoenix Arizona by a shop which specializes in custom one off headers for most of the major funny car and high HP dragster teams that are out there.
Thanks for the info. Work blocks photobucket, so I'll have to wait to check out the pictures.
So, this pipe will throw a CEL unless I get an AP and custom tune?

Yes, sadly the mid-pipe will throw a CEL due to it's construction. There are various methods which have been employed to try and defeat the CEL however they would either result in some kind of special setup that might require odd placement of your O2 sensor or some kind of additional expense.
