Well Don is coming over today to kick me in the to do the tranny-clutch... He is not 100% sure on coming but I am thinking it is a go for me. I need to check the website to see what time to be there. I am down for a caravan or a meet up in B-ham on the way down but I want to be there plenty early. Last year I didnt get in till late and had to rush to get the car of the trailer and ready...

Yes.. Around 12:30am I finished. I took a 2-3 hour break to play with the kids. Started it today and it is quite! Have to drive it still. Thanks for coming over and helping.. I needed the motivation..

So track this Friday night then if all is well IFO. You driving yours down? You are welcome to ride with me in the truck...

Herblenny
05-18-2009, 02:07 PM
By this site, Mike should run mid 10s (by his 1/8th of mile run)

http://www.fl-thirdgen.org/quartermileconversion.html

By his HP and weight of the car, he should break into 9s.

By prediction if he has traction, I say he will trap close to 140 (high 130s) and closely into 9s (10.2).

Too much pressure!!!!!!! Most people do not realize how much harder it gets to make a pass (in a IRS-stock tranny rx7) when your car starts making good power. I will be happy to go 10.7 or quicker.... for now...LOL......

Caim
05-19-2009, 06:40 PM
What makes it so much harder? I just started building my car and was wondering what you thought about what i asked.

What makes it so much harder? I just started building my car and was wondering what you thought about what i asked.

Compared to when I was making less power (300-400).. Didnt have to worry about over powering it out of the hole, was easier to make the shifts, didnt climb thru the rpms so fast. On top of all that keeping it strait!

What are your goals on your build?

Caim
05-24-2009, 12:52 AM
Well i just want to have a fun street car... Nothing crazy. I do all my own work and this is what i have came up with.

Sorry to kinda jack the thread....

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h88/deepsea1985/car%20build%202/SANY0269.jpg

This is the progression of turbos that i have been through.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h88/deepsea1985/car%20build%202/newturbo2.jpg

That was before i did alot of little things to the engine bay. But that is a garret gt37r with a medium street port... Nothing special. I tune it myself as well so i am taking my time with everything. Just getting an idea of what it takes to make a solid 450 to 500 hp car that will last more then a month hahahaha.

I am going to make a build thread so people can see what i have done, but i have just been to lazy lately hahaha.

sk8world
05-24-2009, 04:47 PM
Looks good... What is the current turbo? Looks to be big enough.. I think people over rate the 500rwhp daily driver thing. I drove mine everyday last week to work I just run a pump gas map and stay 16-17psi. So far so good except I sucked ass at the track this weekend. Went there looking for a 6.6-6.7 slip and couldnt break 7.0??? Not really sure what the issue was..

On IFO I have not decided if I am driving down Sat. night or Sunday early. Want to be at the gates by 9-9:30 and its a 3.5 to 4 hour so that means leaving here by 5-5:30 am... I am a night owl.....

Don, if you are racing get those tires ordered and you need to register today to get in free for the 200 mile distance.
See you guys in b-ham or at the track..

Caim
05-24-2009, 08:01 PM
It is a gt37r garret twin scroll with a 1.2 ar hot side. Yeah, i have the bike like you can see in the siq, but my car is the only... well... car that i have. So i have been driving that alot too. It is right at 15psi right now. But i want to bump that up to about 16 or 17 soon. I have not been to the track with it yet because i am waiting on tires for the car. But it is fun for the most part.

I am coming from p cola florida and i am leaving the morning of the event and we have a 3 hour drive i think. But it is not that bad. But i cant wait to meet a lot of you guys and talk it up.

Phil, i think i have dale coming from here with me. So it should be a good time with all of us.

Phil,

I'm emailing / calling TC and will drag him along. He's making progress on his car. Should be able to drive it the 15 to 20 miles to the dragstrip. He's getting about 40 miles per gallon ... of engine coolant, so he should have enough capacity to make it! :D

Herblenny
05-26-2009, 08:35 AM
JyRO,

I think TC is coming up here today.. He wanted me to take a look at his car.. This weekend looks to have a great weather.. Thank GOD! As its been shitty every weekend..

Looks like I will be able to attend with my 1st generation car. I may spend the night at a friends house down there. Got to wrap up a few things. Get the car driving strait and the brakes bled. It will be then finally ready to flog the hell out. :D

Bryan@BNR
05-27-2009, 11:30 PM

Those guys are meeting at 6:30 at the wafflehouse at the Alabaster exit. I don't know though, thats really early.

Herblenny
05-28-2009, 08:21 AM
That is pretty early... I don't mind leaving little later? How about 7:30 and leave around 8? Maybe some of the ARS guy will caravan later with us? That would put us at the track right around 9..

But Im willing to do either times...

FYI: The weather is suppose to be...

Mostly Sunny with Low: 70 and HIGH 90!!!

Its going to be bit warm :)

Ha. I hope you run good Mike. The 1g is very strong though. I am sure I won't get a perfect run everytime. I put a short throw shifter in and I have zero seat time in it so I am sure I will mess up somewhere or another lol.

Dons car was trapping 116 before the tune. That MPH there is good for 11's. If he dynoed 390 and drove it on good tires like he stole it, it will be a low 11 second car. But Don seems to nice to treat his car like that you know?? lol

Caim

Phil....dont even mention the word ?ain.........

Dons coming around... We went to the track last week and he did pretty good given the tires felt like they had been sitting in oil from how bad they spun thru top of 2nd...
When he traped the 116 it was on his pump gas settings so q16 + 20psi he better go 11's!!!!

So we are leaving out at 5:30am puits us in B-ham around 7ish... post up a contact number so we can phone you when we get close to town...

staticpat
05-28-2009, 12:58 PM
The reason some of the guys like to leave so early is because they wait in line a long time, and want to be in front. The ones that actually compete need setup time or whatever.

Meet 7:30 leave at 8:00 sounds much better to me. I'm pretty sure some of the ARS guys would rather leave then as well.

Red Dragon

Mike, Sorry to mention about the "R" word... LOL! You still got my number right?? Call me.. If you leave at 5:30, you should be in Alabaster by 7:30..

Patrick, Let's meet at 7:30 and roll down.. 6:30 is bit too early and we'll still get down there by 9-9:30 or so.. Last year, it seems like people who showed up 30 mins later got in at the same time.

Should we meet at the same place as last year?

It being in Montgomery, I hope it will be imported girls. If not, the "hot body" contest will turn into the "big boody" contest. Good for some, but I'm not really down with that.

Get on it and the rear feels twitchy and I let off. They are gripping very well, as opposed to my street tires, I don't lose traction top of 1st and 2nd when secondary turbo kicks in.

damn I need to work on 1st to 2nd gear! I wish I would have kept my foot on the gas on the 1-2. I would have not bogged. Next time I will have a 1.4x 60 ft, not no freakin 1.8 bs on ET Streets. Crap for suspension kept that car from going faster.... Next step is a 10 second pass.

^What did your FB run Bryan?

12.6 at 114 14 psi of boost, 2.1 60 ft BFG DR/15psi qualifying run 1 of 3
12.3 at 124 20 psi of boost, 2.2 60 ft BFG DR/15psi qualifying run 2 of 3
11.79 at 123 20 psi of boost, 1.9 60 ft BFG DR/13psi qualifying 3 of 3
11.71 at 124 20 psi of boost, 1.89 60ft BFG DR/11psi street 16 win vs mid 11 evo
11.54 at 122 20 psi of boost, 1.83 60ft ETstreet 11 psi street 8 win vs 240 turbo/nitrous
11.6x at 122 20 1.79 ............. street 4 loss vs. 650rw 300zttnosauto

First two wins were driver error which is half of racing! :D Brad in the 300 races at the track every weekend. Better suspension I think I can catch him with everything the same. But that will be next time!! I had fun and I appreciate HDP letting me use his ET streets. Have to get some...

sounds like everyone was happy. Phil took the win in the show, Brian sounds happy with the 11's (for now) Don drives like an old lady, I will never be a bracket racer....

I am really thinking of a 2 step not only to get faster times but be more consistent on 60 footers. On my 10.6 pass it was a 1.65 60. If I could have pulled a 1.45 on the same pass and not had to get off the throttle in 4th I would have been looking at a 10.2-3 time slip....

Bryan@BNR
06-01-2009, 09:12 PM
well when you look at the whole picture I guess I have to be happy. The 1g has been parked in the same place for 2 years in the shop. What more can you ask for when you bleed the brakes, replace the battery and put it on the track. I didn't change plugs, or change oil. Just turned the key lol. It didn't even hickup on any pass. I should have beat on it a little harder but atleast I won some money. I think I may quit my job and race for reward money.

1. there was a boost issue. Your pass shows good peak boost but seems to come on very slow. 1st gear only hit 15.5psi then you let off the throttle and slowly shifted at 7400. By the time you went back on the throtle the rpms went back down to 4500! 2nd gear peaked at 20.5psi but again you shifted "slowly" at 6500 then rpms droped back to 4400! 3rd gear boost peaked at 23.2psi! but again you slowly shifted at 6600prm. 4th gear peaked at 23.6psi!!! Boost was not held steady on any gears but was up and down. If you were to have pulled each gear to 8k and made the shifts quick it would have been completly differant.

Now on your next log at 2pm had serious boost issues. You did MUCH better on pullying the rpms closer to redline. However boost stayed low and didnt hit 1 bar in first gear. 2nd gear hit 1bar not until 6800rpms?? 3rd gear not until 6500, then boost was down and up peaking around 1.1bars.

So over all there was something going on on that second pass. Not sure if you changing the transition points did that or what. I would go back to the settings Ray made and not change them.

I know this is off subject kinda but I think their street car rules should change. The winner of the street event had a full blown race car with lexan windows. The so called muffler was just a 3" long piece in his dump pipe. He probably didn't have any working lights, or turn signals. Absolutely no one else in the street class had anything similar to this.

I am glad my friend sam took his winnings at the last IFO down in LA by beating him off the light. Serves him right.

Maybe I should get a RX3, backhalf it. Put a jerico in it with a PP turbo 20b. Run it with the widest ET streets and run it in the street class so I can slaughter the class...

I just emailed Cliff Walace, one of the IFO guys about this. He read my post on the other forum and contacted me. He wanted to know why the track workers screwed up by pairing us the way they did. I may be getting $$ for semi or r/u spot for the mistake.... I gave him my thoughts on Darren (white diamond star). I bet he drives it to the grocery store all the time... Whats even worse is he was quicker than the cars in the outlaw or whatever they called the top class. So he could have still took home the $$ if he raced in the riught class..

well the payout was less for the quicker class. I won those 2 first races by not missing shifts. I'll be at the next one ready for some real good 60's. I'll probably blow up next time hehehe.

It is piss poor class running a race car in the street class. Its makes both the IFO and the racer look like total cheats. You don't bring a gun to a sword fight. I bet you that DSM was also running either 100% methenol or alky as well. Those fuel lines were huge.

This is what IFO had to say:

The white DSM has been racing IFO for years now and has always been within the Street class rules. yes, it's towed to the events and not daily driven, but those are not requirements for the IFO street class. Relaxed rules and tech is one reason IFO has grown year after year while all other Import drag circuits have either filed for bankruptcy (nopi), bailed out on the import dividision (NHRA) or reduced their schedule locations (BOTI) Don't expect the rules to change any time soon. Tedious little rules on interior, glass, wipers, etc for such small gaines is not worth the tech trouble and chance for racers to protest over a few lbs. Oem frame, muffler, and dot tires are close enough and have worked for the series since 2001. He's a lot faster this year because of the new turbo setup/sponsorship, not because of the interior/glass weight reduction.

Sounds like Darren (dsm car) has set his car up with these rules in mind were the rest of us are just local racers. I guess it sounds fair?

Haha. That was what I was going to do with your RX3. To be honest I need a good truck. I think the REPU I would need more than another car. My syclone just won't tow much.

Mike. I think we should have all said we would not race with the eclipse in our class. If there isn't any competition, IFO wouldn't have been interesting at all... Then they would probably be pushed to move him up to the class he needs to be in.

This is what people complain about in AutoX all the time, like why did my non stock seat or steering wheel move me up a classs. IMO rule are there to be followed if you break them then you move up a class. Either build your car to that classes rules or find a new class. Doesn't matter if it effects performance very much, alot of little increases equal a big increase, if that makes since.

Yes, that was the run I unplugged the hose from the BC. I knew I had logged that run. So what area of the log were we looking at Monday? I think the slow shifts were from letting off because of the hesitation and sputtering. Did you look at the AFR for that run? I think I saw 9.xx on my gauge.

I will go back and look at the first log but the biggest issue I saw was the way early and very slow shifts.

good news for me. IFO agreed there was a mistake in the 2nd round elimination and I was paired wrong so they are sending me a check for semi final payout. Better than nothing although I most likely would have been runner up..

Phil,

I forgot ... I brought that bag of assorted clips to IFO for you. I still have them. Maybe we can meet up for a PFC "test & tune" session, and I'll give you the clips then. I'm still in the process of procuring the PFC. I'm skeptical about paypalling that much money sight-unseen.

Nice find. Watch it again and look at my car start pulling towards the wall towards the end. I was glad to see it on tape. I had almost 2 psi more pressure in the passenger side tire. I guess around the 100+mph area is were it started to play a big roll.
