Hey guys,

I was curious to know if anyone had the special tool that seperated the 20b shaft when disassembling the engine or knew of a way that worked without having the tool necessary for the job. I cant see myself spending 1400 bucks for the tool. I know that scalliwag use to make them on the other forum but I dont know if he does anymore.

Does anyone have a solid idea or possibly loan me theres for a week?

I dunno if he still does. I'm crying on the inside because I manned up to buy the tool and Mazdatrix said I have to wait a teeny bit, because it's special ordered =( I'm interested in learning any technique as well before I use this tool. But I found an awesome youtube video you can watch that will help. I think what they are using is a custom made tool though. I let you know how it goes once I get the tool. Here's a link to RE Amemiya tearing down down 20B. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcrVxI0Rk-w Shaft seperation seen at 5:34

Here's what I made...a cut up and modified rear stationary gear (13b) and a modified front hub bolt...took me about 3 hours to improvise the first time I needed to take a 20b apart. Worked fine for both engines I've disassembled. Once it's in place and bolted to the rotor journal you are seperating, you put a large 3 jaw gear puller on it and it pulls right off. No special technique required, takes about 5 minutes.

That is a far simplier looking tool than I have seen others fab. Others I have seen look more like the OEM tool. A simplier tool that does that job right is even better, mucho props :001_005: I wish I had the tools to do something like that. I only chose my route because I'm such a damn Mazda nut, but now I'm broke as hell :o10: I'll post pics of the tool when I get it.

*bump* I finally got my tool after 4 months of waiting. I guess they had to build it from scratch? lmao. Pics of it will be loaded tonight.

It came from Mazda, ordered through Mazdatrix. Price, it was quite a bit. Here's a link. http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=49-J011-1A00 I hope to put it to good use after my 4 month tdy coming up. Hopefully I manage to save enough for a rebuild kit and after teardown trade my my rotors for some NA. Such a long road ahead. After this is all done then a relationship will seem managable, unless she is rich ^_^
