View Full Version : Using S5 non-turbo harness as S5 TII harness

I remember seeing a write-up on what to change/add (possibly on the evil forum) but I can't seem to find it. I've been running a S5/ na harness as a TII harnes with no emissions, but I am about to get a motor that has emissions still intact and I figured I might as well leave it since I have to pass smog. What modifications need to be done to the n/a harness to have it handle a full TII system? (I can de-pin or solder or anything needed).

Someone feel free to make a FAQ on this as it will save people mula.

bueler? bueler?

I've done this a LONG time ago...
Basically it's plug-n-play.
Don't worry about the boost solenoid, since this ends up being either the VDI or some extra (emissions?) solenoid on the NA harness...
No need to repin.

i have it on my car. its simple. just plug everything in. no modification to get it running. but mine does not have emissions, so im not to sure there.

sen2two, that's what I did with my other car, which has no emissions... IIRC Lander's blue car is using a n/a harness with full emissions..

Ted,

Will the colors on the connector match up or will I need a wiring diagram? I guess I can do the research myself... but what I needed to know is if I needed to start looking for a Turbo harness or not since the motor is going in the car on the 11th.

Thanks for the info.

the differences involved should be simple enough that just using an NA harness should get things done. Just a little more of your time.

The colors of the connectors should be the same...
The extra should be the VDI (tan or gray or something like that).

what about the S5 turbo knock sensor? I thought that the turbo models have this, but the N/A does not?

Is there an unused connector on the N/A harness that plugs in to it?

from what I've been told the knock sensor will not compensate fast enough to be of any use and to not worry about hooking it up. My 6-port turbo with n/a harness (no emissions) ran that way fine. (until low oil pressure)

Stock knock sensor can be thrown away.
The stock ECU ignores it after 4kRPM.
You can verify this with the FSM.

So seeing that you can use an S5 na harness as an s5 TII harness, is it possible to run an S4 TII motor on an S5 TII ecu/s5 na harness?

Yes, if your sing just the S4 TII block with all the S5 accessories.
