Hello I am a noob so flame away if you wish.

I have an 84 12a and an 85 12a. The 84 is basicly trash with no useable rotor housings, end plates or intermediate plate. Rotors are shot as well. The 85 only had 96k on it and one rotor housing is in good shape and the end and intermediate plates are in good condition as well. I was talking to someone who told me that he had a set of rx3 12a rotor housings that are in excellent condition that would work with my 85 end plates and intermediate plate. However I would need to run ceramic apex seals because metal seals would ruin the crome plating on the older 12a rotor housings. The price is right for the set of housings but I wish to build an engine that will last and I really don't want to spend the money on those housings if they are a. not compatible, and b. won't last. So any information would be helpful.

thanks in advance

you need to also find out exactly what YEAR 12a engine. Your getting into the realm of the 6mm apex seal years.

isn't ceramic tougher than the iron seals? I thought ceramic is supposed to work best when it's with housings that are ceramic coated.

If they are '71-73 housings, the stock apex seals are 6mm and the chrome is crappy. I'd use carbon seals to be as nice as possible to the housings.

Wouldn't be able to use 71/73 housings, different bolt pattern than 74 on. 74/78 RX3/RX2 yes and then you can use steel seals.
