I've heard about the Viton O-rings from Atkins, does anyone here have experience with them? What makes them so special? I've also heard they are hard to install, and some people have broken the control rings trying to install them. Are they worth it?

from pineappleracing:

This is a full set of the OEM Florinated Rubber Oil Control Ring O-Rings for a 2-rotor rotary engine (74-95). The set includes 8 O-rings; 4 each of inner and outer variety. We have found the stock O-rings are the best in this application. Please do not substitute with inferior aftermarket Viton oil control O-rings. We have found that they fail far too often at very low miles. The factory part is the best available.

Mazda has been using Viton oil 0-oil rings for the Rx8 engines.. So I dont under stand why Guys like Pineapple are beating these to death...
Plus I have used them for 10plus years with no problem..
I have only had 1 fail and that was because the side seal was missing and there was a direct flame on the oil ring burning up the Viton 0-ring that was there..

I think you're confusing the fitment/breaking issues people are having with the Rotary Aviation o-rings?

I installed Atkins without issue. Don't know what they're talking about being hard to install...

the viton seals are harder(material) vs stock mazda so it's not that easy to press the rings in the rotor.
