I'm def. in on the Nashville one. Maybe the Autobahn and Carolina Motorsports Park. Just have to see.

Taken from the other site:

MazdaSpeed Cash Contingency Program at Redline Time Attack Events
Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to spread the word to Mazda owners out there about Mazda's Contingency Program with the Redline Time Attack series.

Mazda will pay out $200 to the highest placing Mazda, and $100 to the 2nd highest placing Mazda in each of our Time Attack Divisions.

Our Divisions are:

Street FWD
Street AWD
Street RWD
Modified FWD
Modified AWD
Modified RWD
Unlimited FWD
Unlimited AWD
Unlimited RWD

Their program is EASY money for Mazda owners. You don't have to come in 1st place OVERALL in the Division... just the highest placing MAZDA.... So even if you come in 10th place, but are the highest placing Mazda, you still win $200!!!!!

For those of you who take Auto-X or Road Racing a bit more seriously.... if you can win the National Division Championship, Mazda will give you an additional $1000 in cash!!!

For a copy of our rules and more information on our events, please visit our website:

www.RedlineTimeAttack.com

In order to be eligible for these payouts by Mazda, you must sign up (free) for the MazdaSpeed Motorsports program, here:

Ahh yes...they held a competition at the Nashville Superspeedway when Import Alliance hosted the gathering in 08...lots of heavy hitters were there ie. Chris Rado and some other Japanese names I can't pronounce.

I emailed the event director to see what configuration they run at Nashville. I'm pretty sure it's the same one that the mustang club runs by watching the video's he sent me. Here are two video's of the Nashville configuration for anyone interested:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WzfFiNEtkdQ
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZyceB3ASByg

I read the rules last night just to see what to see how everything is classed. I'm pretty sure if I throw a hi flow cat and street tires on my T78 I can run the "street class" :D Dan, I'm pretty sure you could lay waste to the street class.

Just confirmed that you can put any turbo you want and can still run street class. Also, street porting does not qualify as a "major" upgrade. So streetports are good to go in the street class as well.

I'll be competing at the following events:

Buttonwillow Raceway, CA – March 28th- 29th

Willow Springs Raceway, CA – May 29th- 30th

Spring Mountain Motorsports Park, NV September 26th-27th

Auto Club Speedway, CA – November 14th – 15th

I'll be in Street RWD class in my FD

I see you are doing the West divisions. I'm giving some serious thought into doing all the East Division races. You running your LS1 FD or your LS1 FC? :D I'd love to run my LS1 FD in this, but I'd have to be in the unlimited class.

Yes, as long as the car came factory equipped with a turbocharger.

My LS1 FC is long gone. I put some of the money into my FD and "saved" the rest up, till I blew my LS1 up at a track day and had to dump all the "saved" money into a new engine. I've been following the Redline TA's for the past couple of years and it's absolutely ridiculous how much faster and how much more heat everyone is bringing into the game. For instance, at Buttonwillow, about two or three years ago, the street RWD winner was a Mustang running 2:03.xxx, now the fastest car is a Supra running 1.57.xxx!!! Six whole seconds faster! It's insane!

You should definitely do all the East divisions, to get a feel for the competition and where you stand.

I hope I can at least break the current FD record at a few of these tracks. I'll be very very lucky to even get into the top 3... if I don't blow up, that is

Luckily not too many Mazda's compete in street RWD, so I should be able to snatch up $800, which should cover all my entry fees for that year :)

Sounds like you guys will have a blast. Yeah, I've looked into a little each year. I think the first year no one really knew about it and was kind of a last minute thing. As you guys said, I expect there to be alot more cars out there this year. I'm still debating whether or not I'm going to do the series. I'll def. do Nashville because I'm never going to turn down an event that is only an hour from my house, but I'm undecided on the rest of them. Autobahn and CMP are both around 8 hours from my house. My main priority this year is getting everything lined up to do NASA TT next year.

Anyone know of a good street tire with at least a 140 tread wear rating that comes in 285/30/18? I know Adam is running the RE-01R's... wish they made them a little wider. Any word on the new Nitto's?

I have a post on the evil forum on the tires/wheels/susp. section in regards to the "good" street tires. That forum I linked in my post is very informative. A lot of the West coast TA'ers post there.

I guess since we're on the subject of track events and since safety goes in line with it... would anybody have a lead on a Raceshop roll bar FS? Or Larry's contact info? I really don't want to do Big Willow or Cali Speedway without having a roll bar. Especially Cali Speedway since I'll probably be hitting 160+

Kuhmo XS come in 275s, seems like their on par with the RE01Rs and AD07s through tire rack performance reviews.

Another one seems to be the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec. What a dumb name, but if it get's the job done, whateve's

Rules state any DOT approved tire with a tread wear rating of 140 or greater. I haven't found any R Compounds that have that high of a tread wear rating.

Well, I'm willing to bet money that RE01Rs, AD07s, Z1s and XSs are at or lower. Seriously, as fast as these tires wear away driving them on the street they have to softer than 140. That and the recommend optimal temps for all of them is in the region of 200 degrees.

So it looks like Mazda will give a $1000 to a Mazda that wins the championship in their respective class. Sweet!

I wonder if they will let the LS1 swap slide on Andrews car lol.

Edit- Is it for the actual 1st place in overall standings at the end of the year in each respective class? Or is it 1st place in overall Mazda standings in each class?

1st place in each class, either way it's a nice year end bonus for all the hard work.

Brent
02-08-2009, 02:00 AM
according to the factory specs all of those are higher. Either way, no one else will be running any r compounds in the street class either. I would love to run my LS1 in ultimate, but I don't think it'll be worth my time. Like you said, there might be a technicality with the Mazda Contingency for not having a Mazda engine. I also don't think there will be enough Mazda's in the Ultimate class.

Alright, I talked to a friend of mine who actually sat down for the conversations between MNAO and Redline for the contingency program and he's pretty sure I'll be able to qualify. He's a TA driver and his uncle is the manager of Mazdaspeed, so he's a pretty legit source. I'll call tomorrow to confirm, though :001_005:

Afgmoto what cat are you running?

afgmoto1978
03-09-2009, 03:39 PM
Magnaflow universal Highflow 94100 unit with 3" inlet/outlet. Wish they made a 3.5" or 4" unit.

http://www.car-sound.com/02product/universal/941.asp

FYI, running a cat without the air pump is a good way of killing it in a hurry. I got enough overlap on the intake/exhaust that I still get cool flames during down shifts, which doesn't do the cat any good.

Wish we could run the race cat and be legal. http://www.car-sound.com/02product/universal/race.asp

Yokohama Street Class Shootout!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles, CA – March 12th, 2009

The Redline Time Attack Series and Yokohama Tire are excited to announce the “Street Class Shootout”, a new program aimed at rewarding the fastest “street legal” Time Attack competitors in the United States. Three winners will be crowned at the Season Finale, to be held at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Each winner (one for each drive-train configuration: FWD, AWD, RWD) will receive a 2-Day School of Racing with the Jim Russell Racing School (valued at $4000), located at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.

Over the course of the 2009 Redline Time Attack season, competitors in the Street Class Division will battle for a Season Championship in their respective geographical region (Western/Eastern). The six Regional Champions will be brought together at the season finale event, November 14th-15th, to battle head-to-head with one another. When the dust settles, National Champions will be crowned in each Street Class Division (FWD, AWD, RWD) with the drivers being given the experience of a lifetime piloting a Formula-3 race car around the beautiful and technical Infineon Raceway.

The Yokohama Street Class Shootout was conceived as a way to give something back to the “little guy”, the grassroots racer, often overshadowed by the bigger teams and Professional drivers. Footage will be captured during the Shootout and a special highlight video will be produced by Fizix Media Labs and distributed across the Web by official media partners of the Redline Time Attack series. With the 2009 Redline Time Attack season set to kick off the weekend of March 28th-29th at Buttonwillow Raceway, the chase for the Street Class National Championship, and a seat at the Jim Russell School, will be underway!

To answer some questions...

ALL Street Class competitors are eligible....

You DO NOT have to use Yokohama tires throughout the season OR during the Shootout.....

Each car competing in the Shootout WILL have to run Yokohama stickers on their car....

East Coast Region Champions will receive have their entry fee WAIVED for the event at Auto Club Speedway (to help defray the cost of transporting the car cross country)

The Championship Points System will determine the 6 cars (3 from WEST, 3 from EAST) that will be invited to participate in the National Championship and Yokohama Street Class Shootout at Auto Club Speedway. Win your Region, get invited to the big dance.

The West Region cars will obviously not wrap up their Championship until the TA competition is over at Auto Club Speedway... the Street Tire Shootout will happen DIRECTLY after the 2nd Unlimited Class TA session is over.. and DIRECTLY before the Super Session Event. So yeah, the West Region participants may not be determined until darn near just before the end of the final event of the year. :-)

The 6 cars will be sent out on the track at the same time... FWD vs FWD, AWD vs. AWD, RWD vs. RWD... to run a normal TA session (5 laps: 1 warmup, 3 hot, 1 cool down). Fastest time in each drive wheel category, wins.

The East Region cars will be allowed to practice in the practice sessions throughout the day, but will NOT compete in the TA sessions....

Yeah, I had mechanical issues on Saturday and had to back out for Sunday :(

My friend (Billy J, the guy in the NSX that won overall) was driving my car when it failed. He said it was sub-2 min car for sure, and having driven hundreds of modified street cars over the years, he ranked mine as one of his favorites/fastest.

For Sure, any little bit helps.

All things considered I'm okay with where I placed, 10th. Seeing what I'm competing against I definitely need aero, more tire, better coilovers and more track time on the tracks we’re racing on.

Did a 2:05.414 on the first session, knowing I could at least shave off 2 seconds. I really pushed on the second session, but with a dusty track, tires that were going away and accidentally turning off the boost controller, it was just a fun run.

Looking forward to racing at Willow Springs. Hopefully I will be able to get at least a rear wing and make more power.

Nice pictures, looks like some nice track prepped cars! I know what you mean about more seat time at the tracks the events are held at. I decided a few weeks ago for that very reason to only do the Nashville event this year. I *should* be able to get 4 days of driving on that track hopefully before the TA there. Hopefully that'll get me somewhat familiar with the track.

Buttonwillow's a really technical track, love it, but I wasn't on the line the whole time around that track. The asphalt patches made it a real challenge. Wish it was closer to Portland, or better yet in Portland for that matter, but repaved and smooth, hehe.

Brent
07-14-2009, 01:16 PM
Yes sir :D I'll be at Nashville in a couple of weeks. Should be a fun time. I don't think I'll be that competitive, but track time is track time... and I am hurting for my fix pretty bad currently. What about you?

afgmoto1978
07-15-2009, 03:24 PM
Pay cut from work has virtually killed my chance of doing any more TA events this year. But I've been trying to find side jobs in order to upgrade the car and possibly compete in the last two events of the year. Most likely only the last one though, Fontana, half oval, top speed, jizz my pants.

Whatever you do be sure to have a fresh set of street tires if you plan on doing the event. I made that mistake at buttonwillow running tires that had one too many heat cycles. On that note I wish I had driven that track before, I would have completely changed my suspension setup for that matter.

Brent
07-15-2009, 04:34 PM
Thanks for the pointers Adam. I'm going to be running my 275/35/18 Dunlop Z1 Direzza Starspec's with 4 days on them. Not as grippy as new tires, but they are still plenty grippy. I'm switching back to R Compounds once these wear out so I don't want to drop the change on a new set of street tires. I'm in the middle of building my LS1 track car so most of my funds are going towards it right now. I've actually thought about throwing the hoosiers on and running the modified class.

As for Nashville SuperSpeedway, it's a smaller course that you can't really carry alot of speed on(aside from the front straight). A sequential twin car would be perfect for this track and I've been trying to get SPICcnmFD or Chadwick to run but haven't had any luck as I really think they could lay waste to the street or modified class. With my laggy T78, I'm just going to go and have some fun and get some experience :D

Hope you can make both events. I had planned on doing most of the Redline events, but I decided I didn't want to do events on a bunch of tracks that I had never ran on. I'm also focusing on getting my competition licenses with NASA this year so I can do TT's next year. I have 3 days at Nashville now, 2 in my blue car and only 1 in the silver, but that's a good start. I just can't say no to NSS as it's only an hour from my house. I just wish they had more track days. After this event, I don't know of any more at NSS until the Mustang Club has one in Mid September... in which I'm doing a 3 day PCA event at VIR(I'll sign up for Novice and request Fritz as my instructor... pick his brain for 3 days ;)). Oh well, I'll gladly drive 4 hours for Road Atlanta or Barber, and 8-9 hours for VIR. That's why I have the truck and trailer :D

BTW, I almost spit my drink everywhere when I read your Andy Samberg comment... haha!! Speaking of which, have you seen the Mother Lover video? "What is it dog?"

Synapse 50mm wg, 60 lbs main and preload spring with ten turns of preload would help alleviate that laggy T78.

Lucky Mofo, always wanted to do Barber, Road Atlanta and VIR. Also wish NASA would expand to the NW, way better classing for single turbo'd 3rd Gens.

I'm still looking for 2 more in around the same size if you guys run into anymore as I have 2 new ones that I picked up for cheap a while back on ebay and need to more for a set. I'm stockpiled on V710's, but I think they wear out waaaay to quick in the heat of summer. I've been hanging onto them for the cooler fall days.

I thought about doing some upgrades to my current turbo setup like that and was going to hit you up, but I'm thinking I may go with a new turbo set up over the winter. Haven't really made up my mind either way though. What makes me want to keep the T78 is the fact that I can pick up another T78 that is fairly new for around $700-$800 that way if something happens to the one on the car, I can switch them out in less than an hour and be back up and running while the other one is being rebuilt. It'd be nice to have the more usable powerband that a turbo like your 500r SP has though on the smaller tracks. Love Road Atlanta and VIR though with the T78. Would prob. love it more with a newer technology turbo... haha. Actually, would this be the prefered wastegate if I went with something like a 35R/500R set up?

At this time I think Sean is only working with the Tial unit since it doesn't require him to make a new header like he did with mine. Though after seeing the Synapse wg internals, all you need to do is take it apart and reassemble it with the top half clocked to one side so the lines will clear the frame rail.

Well, pretty decent day at the track today. Not a big fan of Redline after today, maybe it was just because it was run in conjunction with Import Alliance. I think I'll stick to NASA TT from here on out.

The car is doing well. I had to put a catalytic converter on to run street class so I'm a little down on power, but I had plenty to spare before. My tires are on their last leg, but it's ok... I'll still have fun tomorrow regardless. It's also calling for rain most of the day tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have some video up in the next few days.

It was a combination of some things, nothing that big. Were you there Phil? It's always a pleasure getting to see your car :) I didn't see an Exedy booth, but I didn't really look around too much. I did see a black FD with an LS1 that I was thinking was Stephen's maybe?

Aaaannnnnyyyywaaaayys... once I got on the track, it was a great time... all grins. I had 4 good sessions on Saturday that were all a full 30 minutes long that was more than I could handle. The biggest issue we had were trying to make our way to the gas pumps through the crowd. The time attack was a good experience and I'm happy with how I did. I ran a 1:14, the guy that won in my class ran a 1:12, and the 2nd place guy ran a 1:13. I know the car had alot more in it, but the driver was driving at 10/10th's of his ability :D

Here are the few pictures that I took while I was there:

That's it for now. I'll be doing some brake work this weekend and hitting Road Atlanta for the NASA event the weekend after that.

Brent,

I didn't make it out. Last minute the photo session was delayed and I needed to head to ATL for the Miata meet. I had to bring something to Mazmart and also I made a good contact for next year's DGRR special guest.

Good to hear you did well at the event. One of these days,... I would love to do what you are doing.. Just need to find some more time these days..

Nice!! Zach told me you were there, and I was looking around for you, but never did run into you.

Good to see you and Jeff.

It was a good event. We'll all have to get together and eat and go on a spirited drive or something once things slow down. How's your car doing?

Cool, hopefully I can make it out to DGRR this year finally! I hear you on time. One of these days I'm not going to be scrambling right up until I leave for an event... haha.

My car's doing great! (knock on wood) Just stock piling parts for another month or two when I get a chance to put them on.

Hope to see some of you there! I'll probably be doing NASA TT also.
