So as we all know, the Turbo transmissions are a very sough after item and of course, somewhat pricey now. Plus we have other people (namely Starion folks) looking to our transmission to solve their own problems. But i had an idea pop into my head while reading around google.
Why not look into the "R" transmissions from the B2600 or the 929? B2600 transmissions are pretty common. A turbo bellhousing will attach to it. The gearing MAY not be ideal.
89-93 B2600 "R" Transmission:
1st: 3.730
2nd: 2.158
3rd: 1.396
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.816
The 929 is the same gearing as an S4 turbo II transmission.
Another advantage i though of was that the shifter is 6" forward on the B2600 transmission when compared to the Turbo II transmission. MEANING that the 20b conversion could sit the 6" back to allow more space in the front for acc. and keep the weight more centered, BUT the shifter would line up around the stock location.
I am thinking about trying out a B2600 transmission in my hill climb car. And here is why if i am running a 185/65/R15 gravel michelin tire, then i get these results with a 4.3 final drive:
And changes into 5 gear at 6528 RPM dropping 1472 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 161.081 MPH

Gearbox:-
Tyre:- Michelin all patterns 195/65 x 15
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 20.509 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 164.072 MPH at 8000 RPM
Engine speeds in top gear:-
30 MPH = 1463 RPM 40 MPH = 1950 RPM 50 MPH = 2438 RPM 60 MPH = 2926 RPM
70 MPH = 3413 RPM 80 MPH = 3901 RPM 90 MPH = 4388 RPM 100 MPH = 4876 RPM
Top Speed in 1 gear = 35.893 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 4628 RPM dropping 3372 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 62.040 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 5175 RPM dropping 2825 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 95.904 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 5731 RPM dropping 2269 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 133.883 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 6528 RPM dropping 1472 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 164.072 MPH
