hey guys some of you may know me if you visit the first gen sections at all.
i own a 1980 rx7 sa and picking up my 05 rx8 monday.
i wanted to say hi and ask a question or two.
the car i bought is a 05 grand touring model. it has full leather interior, nav system ect. its spouse to have all the options, so i should have the in dash 6 disc changer. how does that work?
i live in mass and wanted to know what type of oil you guys would recommend to run during the winter. i read about some omp problems and iam a little worried about that now. so i think i am going to run premix. can some one recommend a premix oil that's easy to buy ie i can walk in to a store and buy.
could some one post a math equation(i suck at spelling) so i can figure out how much premix to add when i fill up.
and one quick quick question i never had to worry about emissions in my 7, when i go to get the sticker wont the premix make me fail.

The 6-disc changer is easy enough to use, hit load and then when the display says ready you insert the disc, repeat 5 more times.
There is a whole thread about oil... the consensus is dont use 5w20.
I premix with just some 2-stroke engine oil, I bought a big gallon jug plus a smaller one (either 8 or 16oz... I forgot), so when I fill up with gas I also fill up the small jug and add that. Its a 16gallon tank, so I am adding either 0.5oz or 1oz per gallon.
Unless you remove the cat, premix should not cause you to fail emissions, but if you remove the cat you will fail regardless.
Running 1oz of 2-stroke per gallon of gas will cause the cat to clog and fail more rapidly. Besides 1oz per gallon is overkill for a street car, we run 1oz per gallon in our race cars but that is because we run the cars no less than 7000 rpm during a race. Recommended usage of premix for a full emissions equipped exhaust should be no more than 6 oz per tank. I myself have had to replace my cat because of running 1 oz per gallon...not cheap! As for which kind of 2-stroke to use, I use Redline Racing 2-stroke, Royal Purple 2-stroke is nice too.
To the OP, oil type will always be up for discussion...I alternate between Redline 50WT and 10w40 Castrol Syntec in the summer and 5w30 in the winter...have never had a problem.

I just checked, its an 8oz bottle, so I am adding 0.5oz per gallon.
You can always take off your cat, put on a midpipe and when it comes time for emissions check, switch! :)
Silly side note:
When loading your six disc changer, hold the load button in for a few extra seconds until you hear a beep. Then the changer will prompt you to load all six discs, one after the other. Same process for unloading.
And premix....I use four ounces of Idemitsu per tankful of gas.

I use the Pettit Racing premix, it conveniently comes in a 4 fl. oz. bottle. I use the whole bottle for each fill-up.
On another note, the bottle has directions on how to use it...
"Add to tank before adding fuel. For street use, 4 fl. oz. with a fill of 12 gallons. For race, 80:1 - 100:1 depending on severity of use."

I didn't know about that six disc changer fact. That is really cool. That is a lot more convenient than doing it one by one.

I just go buy the cheap 2 cycle at walmart just make sure it is TCW3 2 cycle oil
I add 1oz per gallon but I have no cats on yrou system and with emissiones I would go no more then .05oz per gallon..
pour in the 2 cycle then put in gas.
as for oil that is a question that always will have peoples "opinions"
IMO it depends on the oil u tend to use.. synthetic or dino, what brand etc.
I would use ELF/TOTAL 5w30 because it is formulated to be used in the rotary engine
on my car since I have no OMP I user the ELf/Total 10w50
