I'm a new reader of the digizine and was not impressed to read how much of a bagging the RX8 rotors got. Not to mention the repeated references to there "not being much information on using RX8 engine parts in REW engines". Personally I have being using and racing with RX8 engine internals for a number of years in an old 13B-4port from an RX4/5 base car. Originally I started with just the RX8 rotors and gained a substantial horsepower improvement (dyno proven - see my website). Next we moved on to trying the stat-gears and EC-shaft. This resulted in mixed experiences - not all were good. The eventual problem was found in the RX8 stat-gears. Compared to 13B-REW engines the oil feed nipple was smaller in the RX8 versions that in the REW engine. This resulted in lack of oil flow to the stat-gear bearings which caused a number of major engine failures. Mixing of the RX8 EC-shaft and REW stat-gears indicated that a small restriction in the oil flow to the EC-shaft could result so rather than risking it REW EC-shaft and stat-gears were used along with modified RX8 rotors.
For the 2007 racing season this engine was faultess. For the 2008 season a few unrelated engine problems (mainly due to oil cooling due to an engine output increase from a modified intake system) have been experienced but now resolved mainly in part to the fitting of dual factory oil coolers to the car.
I would certainly recommend the use of RX8 rotors to anyone building an N/A motor. They are superior in many ways to the old REW (and GTU N/A) rotors. Some of which are factory phasing of the rotors, reduced weight, increased static compression and improved teeth phasing to the stat-gears. The only modification I would recommend is the slicing of the rotor tips to accept earlier 13B engine seals especially if used on an engine that incorporates peripheral ports - either inlet, exhaust or both.
