I am going to build a hybrid out of my S5 turbo. I know I need the backplate, the compressor housing, and the compressor wheel. I am going to use a 60-1 housing and wheel.

What I really need to know is, what size compressor wheel (shaft size) do I get? Big or standard?

Anyone have a complete parts list? I can get it balanced locally for a decent price, and I know we have Vendors that sell hybrids, but this is something I can do myself.

Any input guys and gals?

I know someone here knows what parts are needed.

One person knows, but I am sure doesn't want to give away secrets!!

I have a hybrid turbo... though I didn't make it and I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it's got a garrett housing and plate on it and pretty sure the compressor wheel is garrett as well: Part number on the plate is 409080-5009
on the housing it says M - 24 Garrett then some other inscriptions that are incomplete/faded.

I made one out of an ebay T04S once. Worked awesome actually. The shaft on the stock turbo seems to be the standard size - or at least, not big. The backing plate and everything bolted straight up to the turbo. I did no balancing on the unit but it ran well for about 4 months @ 13-14psi.

Just check out the bolt pattern/spacing on the backing plate. As long as it will bolt up to the center section of the stock turbo, the other items should fit on.

Not super technical I know but its the only thing I went by? :dunno: it worked lol

Do you know what the a/r was on the compressor side?

Just trying to see what is going to work for me. The info you have given is VERY useful, thanks.

The shaft size thing was the only real hold back.

The stock size is I believe a .5 something?? Don't know exactly.

I have heard a 60-1 is the perfect size. I guess we will see.

get the backplate, compressor and compresor wheel, all this parts bolt right on to the stock TURBO CHRA and HOTSIDE,replace the stock 270 carbon seal for a 360 dynamic seal for better oil flow, get a gapless rear shaft seal(no nasty oil leaks)and new bearings(meassure the shaft for wear cause you can get difference size bearings and even you can get them with bigger oil holes for more lubrication)if you dont have any play just reuse your old bearings,is also recomended that you get the assembly balance but it will work fine without doing it,the 360 dynamic seals they go for around 80.00 bucks, the gapless shaft seal 20.00 and the bearings around 25.00.Building a hybrid turbo is not that hard and expensive if you know from where to get the parts and how to assemble them.
