WOW... is all I have to say. I had another thread about only one port being stuck w/ some pics, but I thought I'd do a quickie thread on my progress for repairing the 5/6 ports on my 5 letter.
So I thought I'd get lucky and break the little stuck bastard free without needing to remove the LIM. No such luck.
One good thing about owning countless different engines over the years, I have about every gasket you can think of and decided to go ahead and clean everything up, remove the LIM and hog wash the hell out of the intake.
Upon removing the LIM I discovered why that port was stuck. SAND. TONS OF SAND. I don't know how the engine didn't suck any of it into the combustion chamber but damn. This was an FL car so I was glad to see no rust, but I knocked about 2" of sand soaked in oil off the LIM and out from around the ports. Apparently the sand particles wedged themselves into the port and froze the sleeve.
Oh well.
Even though I'm selling this car, I still take some pride in my work, so here's what I'm doing for the prospective new owner:
-New LIM gasket
-New UIM gaskets (both parts)
-All new copper washers on Oil injectors, cleaned oil injectors
-New actuator gaskets
-New ACV gaskets and cleaning
-anti-seeze on the bolts
-cleaning intake ports, manifolds, etc
-painting parts back to stock aluminum
The prev owner must have replaced a lot of the vac hoses when he pulled it off to paint things "blue" so I didn't replace them although I'd like to put silicon hoses on. Oh well.
Here are some pics. I should have this wrapped up tomorrow and move on to the replacement oil cooler and lines. After that - she'll be mechanically 100%. I'm hoping to get the idle to rest right at 800-850 instead of the 900 I got it to right now.
Old stuff before cleaning, etc:
