Ok, I'm going to buy a complete bushing kit. I've read I need at least a press to do this. Couple questions.

1. If I get a press, what other tools would I need?
2. What kind of press?

I heard that you will need to burn some bushings out, so a simple propane torch probably.

Umm, as for the press, I would go to some place like Harbor Freight and ask the people there.

Any more info?

This will probably be happening soon so I'd like to be prepared since the nearest place I could probably get specialty tools (not sold at Wal-Mart, Autozone/Advance/Napa) is about an hour away from the car.

You don't *need* a press to do them, but it certainly makes life easier. You can get away with a giant c-style clamp like a ball joint tool - or, just a monster C-clamp.

For the front control arm bushings a sawzall is handy for the rear ones. Cut down along the bushing into the steel sleeve, once its cut you can pry the sleeve off and the bushing will come with it. Most of the others are just a matter of beating the sh** out of. The front bushing on the front control arm cna have the tabs cut off it and be pressed out or beat out with an impact hammer (actually, thers a nother tool that will come in handy! lol)

I would highly recommend you avoid burning any bushings out. Its a poisionous, dirty and HACKEd up method that yeilds poor results and wastes time more then anything else. If anything, its a last resort to aid in the pressing/beating out process.

Also, a drill and an assortment of bits helps. Sometimes you need to drill the circumference of the bushing to get it to slip out of the part.

150-160 bux, you can get a decent compressor, airgun with line and that tool @ harbo Frieght. I am a tech and work on ALOT of shit at home so I got alot of that already. Im getting ready to do my bushings too and thats my tool list :D

Is the air gun really necessary? My only place to work on my car is my parents carport (about an hour away) so it's not the best situation.

YES. Unless you dont mind TRYING to turn a wrench or ratchet on the press. I mean TRYING because your are will get tired sore and take a day or 2 longer then running an air gun.

Yup thats the exact one. Mine's an OTC - but its the same shit. That little baby will coax a few bushings out!

I got the OTC stuff too. More expensive then the Harbor Freight stuff, but I get a replacement the day I break my OTC!!!!! (I have done it a few times)

I'll probably try it without first because I really don't want to buy a compressor/air gun. Well, I do kinda, but I really can't afford them...

So i should be able to do my bushings/subframe and differential mounts with this, an impact, a compressor, sawzall and a torch and or drill?

pretty much. I have not done miney yet, but from what I have seen in my master bushing pack, it works. :D The subframe and diff mounts I dont have, so I cant answer for them.

haha, nope.

Well, if you're talking strictly about putting the new bushings in then yeah, they slide in like butter.

My5Ababy - looks like a decent unit for the price. Comparitvely I've purchased a 7.5hp 22cfm unit with a 60Gal horizontal tank at an auction of a shop that clsoed for $750 and considered it a great deal. That seems very fair for what you're getting. Not to mention money talks....wave some bills at him and he may crumble 100-150 dollars under :)
