My motor is put back together and the rear stationary gear is ready to be put on and torqued. I'm having a problem getting the pin on the rear iron to line up with the slot in the gear. I can rotate the E-shaft and the teeth will fall into the rotor, but the pin will still not line up, it's off by probably less than 1/16th of an inch. I rotate the E-shaft completely around several times and it still will not line up. Has anyone experienced this? Oh btw, I'm using a RX8 rear stationary gear.

Found this by dubulup on the hater forum:

"keep trying to get the teeth to engage in the rear rotor (the motor has probably slighty rotated CW looking at the rear rotor), and when they do turn the motor with the gear until the keyway is aligned."

Worked like a charm. It's funny, I messed around with this last night for like 15 minutes, and after I read this, it took all of 6 seconds to get it in.

Thanks dubulup!

From your description, It appears that you did not have the stat gear already bollted to the rear housing when you laid it on top of the stack.

Is this correct or am I misunderstanding your statements?

This is correct. I put the rear iron on and torqued the tension bolts/studs. Then I put the stationary gear on last.

You are the first to do it that way that I know of after 23 years of RX-7 ownage. Who told you to do it that way?

Wow, good to know. Looks like I just got lucky this time since I can turn the motor over and seems to operate as designed.

No one specifically said to do it this way, it's just the way I remember tearing it down so i built it this way as well.

Now I know for next time.

That is why you should read about how to do it and even watch videos about it.
The info is out there.
