Hello Everyone

I may be new to posting on the forum, but I am not new to the RX7 enthusiast world. I have been in the car business almost my entire business life. I was once the Regional Sales Manager for Mazda Motors of America. I had the first RX7 ever to hit the roads in 1992 Minnesota even before they went on sale. It was service training car that I trained the dealerships in on. Between my son and I we have owned multiple RX7's. We have had FB, FC's and FD's. All of which we have either built up or blew up playing with. I am currently modifying a Pettit built Banzai. I will be at about 550 RWHP. It is a three rotor with AC and power steering in tact. I am wrestling with a transmission, clutch, rear end conversion, in search of street car manners with race car attitude. It looks like I will be able to run a Tremac 6060 magnum 6 speed with an automatic bell housing that should be capable of housing a LS9 clutch set up. We are going to have to custom make the flywheel. For the rear end I am putting in a Ford 8.8 normally found in a ford explorer to take the abuse that 550 HP and 14 inch wide rear meat dish out. This will require welding in a cradle to fit that configuration. I am waiting on the new Haltech Elite as a tuner and plan on running E85 for fuel. Once I am allowed to post, I will keep you all abreast of the progress. My son is also playing with an NA Turbo, thinking about swapping in a 13B single turbo. :driving:The best to all of you.

Welcome to the forum. I won't say welcome to the insanity that is rotary, because it sounds like you were lost to that a long time ago.

Aye, welcome aboard Jack. You'll find some pretty savvy people on here that may be able to help you solve the riddles of making the car JUST the way you want it :)

PICS or it didn't happen!!!

You son is driving an NA miata I assume?

I have been traveling so I didn't sign in and see your post. Thanks for the welcome. My son drives a 1991 RX7 Convertible Series Five. Since you said there are a lot of smart guys out there, here is what I am trying to figure out. I am putting in a 6060 magnum tranny. I want to have a smooth clutch engagement while holding 550 RWHP. I want to use an LS9 clutch. The stock manual bell housing is not big enough to house the LS9 clutch so I am hoping to use a automatic bell housing. Since that housing fits the auto torque converter, I am hoping the extra room will allow for the bigge clutch. That's challenge number one. The second challenge is custom making a flywheel to fit. Has anyone attempted this?

Why not go multi-plate?
