Is it parked on uneven terrain, what's the deal with the rear wheel? Doesn't quite align with the rest of the body. I'd sell it/part it - like the other guys said you have way too many projects as it is.

Fill it with Tannerite?

This one is hibernating 85 miles away. So out of sight, out of mind. Not starting on it until the Cosmo is done.

Agreed, but I bought it this way.

It is on uneven ground in the pic. It sits level.
Fill it with Tannerite?
Save that for Civics.
Geez guys, I only have one other project, and that's the Cosmo.

even $20 worth would be enough to blow the roof off.. ;) a single $10 bottle would send water heaters 100 yards into the atmosphere.
honestly though too much blue and wasted effort on a 4 lug n/a car. sell or burn it, tannerite is also an option.

You guys realize that they aren't building these cars anymore right? So a straight running car should be kept that way. The body work can be removed and it can be made into a nice car, turbo swap, whatever.... I hate when I see perfectly good cars @ the boneyard....

If it was a hardtop with no sunroof, I would definitely call it a keeper.
Because it does have a sunroof, they are a dime a dozen...
What's the difference between this base, 4-lug model and almost all the other non-turbo FC's out there?
6 hours and a suspension swap. :D

01-22-2014, 01:16 PM
Well... just to play devils advocate.... I bought my FC as a base 4-lug car in need of some minor body work as well as mechanical work with 178k on the car for $1700..... This was in 1997.....

01-22-2014, 01:36 PM
Of course the obvious answer is to either find a cheap 5-lug swap (which you've already done it seems like) and either start a project or sell...
why put option to burn it? you are basically asking people like me who know you already know the obvious answer to fuck around on the poll (hehe).
If I was being serious, the option would be to sell and use profit to finish Cosmo. Not because FCs are dumb, but because there will always be another cheap FC later.

I agree with Paul on this one. You got a good deal, sell it and make some coin. You have a project (and will likely pick up more anyways), so finish the cosmo.

I guess my question what is your plan with the build if you keep it?
djmtsu
01-22-2014, 04:15 PM
Don't need to sell it for Cosmo money, I already have that money saved/budgeted.
If I keep it, I want to make it something that can hit the track. Already have the 5 lug swap sourced, which is no biggie. But, and I know its going to make some of you sad, it will STAY NA. Since this car was so damn cheap, it isn't worth dumping TII money into it, just to make it a TII. I've been down that road once, and while it was fun, I can't say I didn't have just as much fun as when the car was NA.
Strip the emissions crap, true duals, no carpet, roll cage, suspension, gauges. Hell, maybe even weld up the sunroof just because who cares.

01-22-2014, 04:32 PM
Then I guess the question is: Can you build this envisioned car for significantly less than you can buy someone else's already completed project that they are losing money on when they sell it?

Yes. The price was cheappppppppppppp

I have crushed 4 FC's an FB and a Rx3. Not sent to the crusher crushed them by myself then sent them to the crusher! Salvaged the FC's they live on in 20 or 30 other FC's .
The FB I just killed because I was so pissed it was bent could have saved windows and doors.
The Rx3 was rusted in the rocker area all 360° of the car. Trunk floor gone to almost the front seat. They took it away in 3 pieces.
I parted my FC for college 5 years ago and still have yet to regain a % of what I need to make another running rotary.
I still can't believe how badly damaged booth those 12as where.
I also was going to use my 6port in the 2 for a while but it was also done for.
Soon I get to part a 97 Accord and crush it too! MMuhahaahahaha

It could be a good base for a track car (with the suspension changes). I'm fine with an N/A track car if it's light enough. Reliable is a huge plus.

If you got the car that cheap, you can probably flip it without putting another dime into it and still turn a profit. Even though you said you have cash budgeted to finish the Cosmo, flipping it will get you a little extra "management reserve" to play with.

I put a feeler for it on facespace to see what it would pull, throwing $1000 out there as a price. Had a bunch of people all over it, but the questions were like a broken record.
Random Bro- Does it run?
Me-It needs either an AFM or Fuel pump. Haven't looked into it further because I don't care at this point in time.
Random Bro- Do you have the parts to fix it?
Me- Yes.
Random Bro- If you get it running I'll come down and buy it now.
Me- I'm not touching it if you want it for $1000. However, I will throw in a Phillips screwdriver, so you can replace those parts and hope for the best.
Random Bro- So how much for it if you get it running?
Me- Meh, $1500.
Random Bro- Let me know when you get it running and I'll buy it.
So, in other words, you don't know shit about these cars, and are willing to pay $500 extra for 10 minutes of work? I don't want to sell it to these types of people. And if I sell it locally, it will be more of the same.
It's an '86, so it can be tagged as antique, which requires no emissions test, and no annual renewal, ever. Insurance is like $18/mo.

^This sounds like the typical Craigslist buyer, always a time-wasting PITA. Still, you can probably market this to another rotor head via the forums and turn a little profit, or tailor your ads on the general market towards someone who's mechanically inclined looking for a cheap project car.

You know where to find me to work out a deal. I think we both know $2500 isn't a fair offer for my car. :) But I do think we can make something work... And to be fair I'm really not interested in your car, just wanted to give it a bump and mess with a friend.
