Please don't do this!

I just saw this on the Iforge veilside car and I could tell the person didn't know much about rotaries.

Why do I say this is wrong?

He put AST elimination on and then route the line to an AST tank.

Why would this be bad?

First, you are putting pressure onto the system by the cap. Then the AST has a pressure cap. When the cap where filler cap used to be opens up air and liquid will move..... to AST. If the ast cap does not move, the air will be trapped inside. If the AST isn't completely full, the air will be pulled back in when the engine cools down.
There is a chance the AST cap will open up before the filler pressure cap. But that's unlikely.

Also, look at the point where the filler neck and ast is connected.. Yikes! Unless you fill up the AST to the top, you'll have problem sucking back air.

Bottomline, you don't need to DO BOTH! Do one or the other. Better yet, put a tank with connecting point way at the bottom. So, when air gets pushed out into the tank, it will flow to the top and when cools down, it will suck up liquid instead of air. The pic set up is just wrong.

That's pretty bad. I guess that's what happens when you have someone else completely build your car and you don't really have any knowledge of the cars components.

They thought it would look bling bling...

Actually the system is doomed before the caps even begins to open. The bottom hose on the AST appears to be connected to the radiator and will begin to introduce air into the system as soon as the thermostat opens and the coolant begins to fully circulate. I've seen a few on the "other" board install both AST and the FC overflow cap with no apparent reason why.

Since the cap on the AST is higher then the rest of the system it may act as a reservoir for the overflow thank? No matter how you look at it, it's wrong.

How what is suppose to be done, AST elimination or keeping AST?

With AST elimination, you replace the top of your thermostat housing (part that the radiator cap screws into) with the part that came on the 2nd Gens. Then you run the overflow line from this part directly to the overflow tank. Then plug the nipple coming out of the thermostat housing and the one on the radiator.

To keep the AST (upgraded to aluminum tank), you just route it as stock...top of AST near the cap goes to overflow tank, side port goes to the nipple on thermostat housing, and the bottom goes to the nipple on the radiator.

I don't have any pictures, but if someone did it might help explain it better.

Lol, I cant believe how many supposed professionals dont know how a cooling system works. I cant believe somebody decided that must be correct!

my question is this... $75, 000 car... and they pit a rubber cap on the one port that should run to the AST

why not just cut it off. tap and plug...

it looks so cheap... only thing that's worse if the section of rubber hose with the bolt in the end of it... those crazy Japanese...
