Would love to drive my car down to DGRR

Would need: chassis wiring
finish fuel lines
put rear end back together
make driveshaft
exhaust
re-tune
realize I did some of the above wrong so back to square one

rinse and repeat!

I so hate flying lol ... but tearing that road up in my 78 would/will be so much fun wooot

Well I am currently hemorrhaging money buying a house, and the 8 needs quite a bit of work before I am willing to take it to the dragon, so it may come down to DGRR on the Cbr or no DGRR at all. We shall see though

01-22-2014, 10:39 PM
:smilielol5: I got one of those.... after I left Limerock which has noise restrictions.... that cop was such an asshole. Wasted a day of my life to go up to the inspection place for them to listen to it and say the same thing.... yeah, that cop was an asshole.....

chibikougan
01-23-2014, 12:26 AM
Hmm I have never had a loud exhaust ticket. Even driving the FC n/a and the FB with just an exhaust Mani.

Even the 70 something Monte Carlo with the headers turned upsidown and made into stacks shooting fire. Black windshield roof burnt. Cop laughed his arse off at that one.

Bimmer had a straight pipe right out the middle and was very loud.

Wait had a warning for exhaust on my 88 b2200 that had a pace setter exhaust and was really quite....

Should have been like wait we can solve this here and done a waste gate to the face full throttle blow by!! Save some time anyway...:o16:

TitaniumTT

I had the trailer in tow.... oh wait... that didn't stop me on the highway in the past  He was such an ass about it... I told him I just came from Limerock where they have actual sound metering equipment and I was fine. He told me I was too loud, Oh... so your department has the sound metering equipment. He says they do, but they never use it because it's too cumbersome to carry around in their cruisers.... Ok... so can I see the latest calibration reports for your ears YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!

So to stay on task here.... the RX8 to so list

Fix power steering
Fix the failed fuel level sender
Replace the torn MAF sensor O-ring
Build a place to neatly mount the 2-stroke oil pints
Remount the rear view camera
Wire up the sunroof to vent and auto-close
New shift knob and boot
New plug wires and plugs
Repair some ignition wiring
Refinish the rims
New front tires
Detail the interior and exterior
I think that's about it....

rx7 vinnie
01-23-2014, 06:31 AM
Idk what it is about my car but at our local autocross I banged a 101.2 decibel in the straights. Idk why? I have 3 mufflers all in a single 3" exhaust.... Maybe should put a turn-down or a silencer on the end.

djmtsu
01-23-2014, 06:56 AM
Turn down would make a HUGE difference. I know that is the only way Carter's FD would pass dB at some tracks.

Dolphin tail FTW!

rx7 vinnie
01-23-2014, 07:49 AM
Yeah he also put a towel over it at nationals.

TitaniumTT
01-23-2014, 09:31 AM
Jeez man..... noise restrictions @ Limerock are 86/89 db.... I had no problem with a 4" split into 3" *2 and then only 2 Magnaflow cans..... what cans are you using?

rx7 vinnie
01-23-2014, 10:13 AM
MagnaFlow after header then a small Borla round then an HKS tail muffler. It doesn't help I tach the car past 10k either. It sounds wicked though.

TitaniumTT
01-23-2014, 10:43 AM
I think the HKS is your problem.... I did an engine job on an FD and we didn't have the new exhaust system in house yet. So I started the car up without a catback or even the cat on it.... we all know what shit that sounds like.... the new "muffler" didn't change the tone at all and I swear it made it louder....

rx7 vinnie
01-23-2014, 10:49 AM
So what do you recommend as a final exhaust muffler?... I'll try anything so I don't get any flack from the old geezers and so called bad asses that run our SCCA region.

TitaniumTT
01-23-2014, 11:03 AM
I like Magnaflows, but you need to run an offset design to get any real noise reduction. My favorite muffler is a turbo though :D

rx7 vinnie
01-23-2014, 12:01 PM
I'll probably get another 3" Magna-flow and a turn down tip..... They look like limp dicks.

Must do:
- Fix door handle and key fob
- Replace split airbag cover
- Replace console cover
- Relocate battery
- Relocate and replace overflow tank with aluminum tank
- Make tray replacement for radiator flow where battery and air box were.
- Rotate tires left to right (stupid staggered wheels)
- Replace steering rack
- Alignment

Money Dependent:
- Misc PDR dents
- Address clear coat / paint issues
- Replace front fenders
- Finial tune on the Bridge Port

Boredom:
- Wire tuck

Minor set-backs I've had recently:

The "painter" that sat on my car for 9 months and never started it occasionally like I had asked apparently never did and fried the battery using a jump box. I bought a new battery a few weeks ago. .

Then starter went went south too! I had to push start the car to get it home a couple weeks ago!

I got a replacement starter since mine was under warranty but that one wasn't any better than the one I took off (The battery was fully charged). Like DJ said "If it ain't one thing, its another." Although it would work most of the time it would just click. . click. click and never engage when I turned the key on other tries. The guys at the auto parts store were reluctant to replace it since it tested good on their fancy machine. . . Anyways I got the new one on and it works great!

Since I've replaced the battery I've noticed that the volt meter was lower than usual. This may explain why it took so long for my battery maintainer to completely charge the battery. While I was at Advance I had them check the alternator on that fancy machine but it didn't even recognize there was anything attached to it, assuming they didn't know what they were doing I just checked it once I got home after reassembling the car with the new starter. .

Sure enough! alternator dead too!!! What a great (expensive) day it was, I feel for anyone that has to replace a 3rd gen alternator because they're freaking expensive! You're looking at around $300 for a replacement! Not what I paid though, I luckily still know people that work for Advance so I got a "hook up", $190 out the door. Still expensive but better that what I was prepared to pay.

Anyways, , once all this is over with I hope it's just "check air pressure/rotate tires, apply Auto wrap protective film to front of car and check/top off fluids." like I had planned before.

So, chances are pretty good that the Cosmo won't make it this year. I am pretty crushed about it, but that at least gives me a year to make it look good. It is total rat rod status currently.

Recently I just finished:

1. Switching from sillycone brake fluid to hi pro blue with a 500+F boiling temp which means all rubber had to be switched out (MC, rear cyclinders, rebuild calipers)
2. New SS lines all around
3. HAWK pads up front
4. Vented front rotors (new bearings etc)
5. All MOOG steering parts (tierods, idler arms)
6. Adjustable LCA (bad ball joints)
7. Cut one loop off all the springs to lower things another 1/4-1/2 inch
8. Made new rear bump stocks (old ones missing)
9. Replaced fuel filter
10. Alignment

And now from sitting at low charge too long while I waited on parts and did all this, a new
battery will be procured tonight. Otherwise ready to go to DGRR!

Hope I see you guys there this weekend. Theres an OGTA cabin right near the lodge where all
the festivities are happening.

How's the RX-8 driving? I haven't heard from Jacob but I guess no news is good news.

Jacob says his is all good.

Once i got on the interstate i noticed a tendency to go right (at speed more so) but not as bad as before, even on the left side of the crown... I'm sure the alignment is fine, but maybe I need to start looking at damage or bending, etc. The car had a front accident before I got it, and I replaced the subframe (not for damage but siezed cam bolts) and coilovers. But even then, it didn't start pulling right until AFTER i got the first alignment with R34 guy. Maybe the alignment before was way off to account for a tweaked chassis? Or maybe the steering rack is providing some light input. I don't know, but i'm not too worried about it as the car drives great on the track and i don't drive it much otherwise. :)
