hey guys i was hoping one of you could help me out. if you ask around most will say iam a good guy, ive given away tons of free parts. gave away a 5.0 and trans to a member on this site. so i was hoping my good karma bank will pay off and some one will help.

i need help with a wiring problem. i was able to start my car a few weeks ago. but i just got done doing all the major work on Friday and went to start my car and it wont start. i needed a jump and blew my main fuse able link. i thought it was cause i was jumped by a turbo f250 diesel but thats not the problem. i replaced my old battery with a new one and the fuses. as soon as i put the ground on the bat the link blew again. iam not a wiring guy at all. my buddy said it must be a simple short i caused from removing parts ect.like must of bumbed a wire and now its arching out some where. i have no idea what i did since only wire i touched where the ends that go on the battery and the ones on the alt but you cant put them back wroung. if you live in the area please help me, ill pay for gas and your help if you can help me get my car started. i live in tewksbury mass. right near lowlle. like other first gen guys iam kinda broke and really dont want to have to pay to get my car towed both ways and how ever much it will cost to fix.plus i dont know where i could bring it to be fixed. iam really hoping some one on this site can stop by and help.

Is the battery on right? Did you connect the positive to the positive, negative to negative? I know it sounds simple, but sometimes that's all it is.

Also, you are connecting the negative last, right?

I might be able to come up there one night this week after work. If not, I'll try to get up there next Saturday.

BTW, do you have a digital camera? Take some pics of what you've got, and we can look here and try to help you diagnose it now.

Here's a pic of my FB from a while back, this is what it should look like:

Disconnect the alternator and see if the fuse still blows. If it does, then remove all of the fuses from the fuse box and check again. If it doesn't blow then, then you can start returning the fuses to their slots one at a time to see which circuit is causing the problem. This can help to narrow down where the problem is.

would i have to remove both wires from the alt? ill have to wait and buy a bunch more fuses.

My thinking was that if you fried the alternator while jump starting, it could now be grounding the entire electrical system. Not sure if that is possible, but I believe I've heard about it before. I would remove all wires from it and test, just to be sure...

wow i feel dumb.you wont believe what it was. only cost me 20 bucks i gave my friend.

so i removed my alt a few weeks ago to get the gilmer pulley installed. theres two wires for the alt one with a plug and one thats bolted on. when i bolted the wire back on i forgot the plastic washer that goes between the wire and signal cleaner thing. simple as that kinda sad i over looked it. my buddy who went to uti came by when i was at work. i got home and within 15 min's he figured it out. he was going tho all my wires and i was like test the alt. and there it was. thank you yd(my friend) videos will be soon.

lol, glad to hear you got her figured out. Now go take your girlfriend for a ride, and maybe go for a drive after you're done... :)
