Anyone have Bluetooth? If so, you can make an Acceleromter out of a Wii controller. I planned on doing it, but it's a moot point now considering I'm bringing a Mazda 6.

There's just something about flying around a blind corner on the Dragon and finding a guy standing in the middle of the road looking like a deer caught in your headlights trying to wave you down to keep you from plowing into a motor home and a pickup truck stopped in the middle of the road. Got to love the brakes on the Turbo!

Made a run late yesterday on the Dragon and the Hellbender, and 129 from Robbinsville to the station. Gas is about $3.87 for premium in Robbinsville at the Texaco Station. The next station down is selling 10% ethanol gas for around the same price. Forgot to check to see what it was at the Deals Gap station.

Price of premium in maryville is about $3.40ish atm, just paid 3.23 for the cheapshit from the local bp just off 411/129

Following two Sheriff cars and one bringing up the rear from the lake to the gas station basically...

sucked.

I ran into a bunch of RX-8 owners at the lake and followed them back to the station running... 25-30mph with the escort. I also talked to a biker who said the THP had set up at the bridge before the lake and after the lake earlier in the day. I never saw them since all my runs were to the lookout and back except the last one.

I'll try and post some more later man. Right now I'm beat. It drizzled a little around 10:30 this morning but the rest of the day has been warm and sunny. In other words, my face is sunburned...

And for those up here, gas at the Dragon is $3.63 for 93 premium.

those are perfect understeering conditions (depending on what "DRIZZLE" means). Be careful.

News to me but I haven't seen anyone other than Terry7 this morning and the 8 guys at the lake this afternoon. Where'd did you hear it?

Eric texted me about an hour ago, I assume he got the info from Janna herself. I tried to call your cell, but I forgot, no service up there...duh!

I'll try and find out later tonight. Right now I'm watching the weather and it looks like we may get slammed this evening with the system that's been spawning tornadoes in Tenn today.

04-11-2008, 11:41 PM
I've been hunting for info about Janna's vehicle also, I got a text message earlier today..."Yeah I just wrecked the heck out of my car" ...but no other details.
I didn't realize she took the FC up there instead of the 8.

Sorry about the weather rolling through, but I'm sure you will all make the best of it and hopefully it will clear out by tomorrow.

I know what you mean kevin. Me and a couple of the knoxville cre rolled through the dragon between 7pm and 9pm and saw a few 8's, a small line of fc's and fd's and that was it....and that was after we watched a Land-air truck head down from teh NC side down thru the TN side. But the rain kept us from doing much other than heading almost to the hellbender.

04-12-2008, 12:27 AM
The rx-8 crowd seems not to have fared well at the gap...there was at least one wreck at BOTD as well, and this same girl had another "incident" that I was told about that was not really a wreck.

It's not that we don't fare well out there it's that we have a lot of retards that don't need to be driving anything running with us! Your quote, case in point...she swears she wasn't at fault for that accident either at BOTD. Whateva!!! HAHA!

will you all stop tip toeing around this shit??? What happened and how???

I8U
04-12-2008, 12:54 AM
There's no tip-toeing here...flat out Pink Flea is a horrible driver! I've seen her drive and know this from first hand account...I really expected her to get into some kinda accident up there this time around. Shit just seems to follow her around...I don't have specifics on what happened this time around, all I know is she wrecked her newly purchased pink FC...probably driving like she normally does, bad. HAHA!

Turbo II
04-12-2008, 01:03 AM
Apparently she lost it on the Hellbender somewhere near Fontana earlier in the day. Smacked the front end pretty good it sounds like. I saw her drive by in the dark at the village and it looked as if the only problem was the PS headlight would open. I didn't get a good look at the car but she said it drives fine, just the nose is screwed up, off center, whatever. That and it decided to dump all the coolant after I saw her at the Village. Up to that point she said it was running fine. I imagine if the nose got smacked she may have cracked something up front. Guess we'll pop the hood in the morning and see what's up.

I8U
04-12-2008, 01:05 AM
Damn Greg, that makes it just a little more funny...to lose it on Hellbender...wow! HEHE! Atleast she didn't get hurt or hurt anyone else...

Turbo II
04-12-2008, 01:18 AM
I saw skid marks on the Hellbender Thursday where someone else lost it on a left hander and smacked the left side bank. The Hellbender can be as bad or worse than the Dragon in a few places.

It might be time to start having a "Drivers Meeting" before you're allowed on the track up here!!!

My first pass through any of these roads the first time every year is a warm up lap for me. Check the car out, check me out, check the road out. After that, I have fun. I've had a couple of close calls up here already this weekend with the incident Thursday and a tractor trailer rig yesterday. If a biker hadn't been leading him through warning people I would have smacked the hell out of him in the turn since he was all in my lane.

I8U
04-12-2008, 01:25 AM
I guess since the speed limit is a lot higher there a lot people under estimate how technical it can be...I definitely agree about having a drivers meeting. I do the same as you when I'm there, a couple runs at a relatively slow pace to get a grip on the conditions (car/road), and take it up a notch or two after that.

In other news, my bed sucks!!!! It's like sleeping in a damn marshmallow or something. You sink down into the damn thing and can't roll or turn over without having to get completely out of the damn thing just about!!!! I'm about ready to pull the blankets off and sleep on the damn floor hah!

04-12-2008, 01:34 AM

Gooooooddd Morning Rotards!!!

Shh! I was trying to sleep.

IT could be that going from an rx-8, which has super handling and is forgiving (especially with modern traction and stability controls) to an FC without proper wheel time was a factor...

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised.

FC's handle very well, but are not on par with FD/rx8 handling.

Thats true, everyone knows an FC is better. ;)

Next year, tech inspections and a drivers meeting before you can go out to play?

Nah man, people just need to stop and think. Like I ragged on Joey last year. You don't put on a new suspension and test it out running with the fast group (and we weren't that fast) on the Dragon, especially when you've never driven the road before. I don't care how good you are. All of us need to take some time and get a feel for the car, the road and ourselves.

I really wish I could have made it this year. I even managed to get the days off, but the guy who was supposed to be going with me backed out of the deal last minute, and I wasn't about to make a 8 or 9 hour drive by myself to a place I had never been before.

I just got back...uneventful day to my knowledge. A 1st gen had a dead fuel pump this morning, a 20b FD supposedly had clutch problems, a canadian FD drove in on a donut, the RE motorcycle wouldnt start, and an FD blew coolant seals on the way down and was left in Cincinnati. I think that about covers it.
that explains most of it. Pink Flea's fc had a little accident but a few people like DJ were able to help get her radiator back in shape and get her back on the road.

FC from Indiana (I think) was tagged by a motorcycle in the wrong lane (the motorcycle not the fc), beat up a wheel real bad and essentially tore open the side of the FC. Don't remember whose it is but the silver/grey FD with the widebody, sleek headlights, etc apparently had a run in with a guard rail on a beer run last night. Don't know the whole story from what I had heard he hit a patch of gravel or something and skidded off against a piece of guard rail. Scrapped up the whole passenger side of the car, front wheel, busted at least the cover on the passenger headlight.

I think that was about it incident wise.

DAAAAAAAYYYYYUUUUUUUMMMMM, that gunmetal widebody FD was probably the most badass thing there, with obvious exception to the JC 20B cosmo and my car of course :D

That sucks if it is true. :(
its true there will probley be some pictures of it up at some point, there were a few taking them, it was sitting out front of the lodge this morning.

It was a little dinged up but nothing a screw driver and handle from a large floor jack couldnt make road worthy again. He is driving it back to LA as I type this. Im sure it will be just as clean as it was before, no one got seriously injured over the weekend so I think it was a success all around. Could not have asked for a cleaner group of rotary powered vehicles.

Yeah Kevin that was me, just hit the gravel and no room to correct. sucks but the state trooper made me feel better about it. He said that happens quite a bit and he had some brooms in his car and we swept up the gravel.

Car drove home fine and I'll have it back together soon. It's all cosmetic damage.
