hey guys this mite get a little weird and if the mods want to edit this post feel free.
first iam sorry to my self and to you guys that i didn't post these pics here first.
but i needed info on belts and i am pretty sure no in is useing this setup on this site yet.
any ways on to the story.
like 6 months ago i saw a video of a b series pickups with a turbo 13b in it and useing a gilmer setup. first time i ever saw it. i looked up info and pics ect cause i thought it was cool. any ways i started to do a bunch of work on my car and removed my air pump.
i tired the pineapple racing "yahoo" belt that goes around the e-shaft and water pump. took for ever to get the belt on and kept twisting ect. the belt broke before i ever got it on. i said iam not going to spend that much money again and have that problem happen yet again.
i then started talking to people about double belt pulley on the alt trick. most people said the same thing, all most no two belts are the same size or they don't stretch the same.
i deiced id drop the money and go gilmer, i wound up sending a pm to a kiwi on rx7 club and got it thru him. saved money not getting it from tweakit.
now the pics http://a483.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/29/l_7dfc14ebedc60694cd75cdc6f1df02e2.jpg

now this is the bad part i posted a question on rx7club of where to buy belts for it or a belt number so i can get one in a parts store near by. didn't want to always go on the net to get one. i can get them from my work but, what if i get fired so i wanted to be safe. half the people flamed me ect.

Yeah that was pretty sad. Too bad people can be assholes over a simple question. Yet another reason this site came along at the right time. I think the kit is awesome, and I may get one myself, but probably go dual pulley for awhile until I start having problems.

Yeah that forum has gone way down hill. I don't even feel like updating my 4 rotor thread over there anymore.
Let us know how it sounds. I've got a supecharger going into an FB over here, which I'm sure will sound like it has a Gilmer drive belt on it.

I don't care what those guys say, it looks sweet Ben. You need to paint that motor though... Can't have that shiny set-up with all the crusty old stuff. ;)

videos will be soon, finally got my wiring problem solved. by the way its not as loud as the youtube videos make it out to be. even the video on my cam makes it seem much louder then it really is. the mic on the cams dont pic up the low end sounds. my video makes it sound like its much louder then my rb header mini muffler and my ebay muffler but its realy not.

It sounds like a supercharger. :D Exhaust is a little on the loud side, but I'm used to RB mufflers so there you go.
You must have a stock heavy 30 pound SA flywheel. It basically revs like a rotary truck. :) You also need some competition motor mounts or a torque brace. It'll keep the engine from moving around so much.

yeah its loud but since i put the rb header on and block off plates it doesnt shoot flames and back fires like a gun shot. wich is much better
about the fly wheel is that why its easy to shift the mass keeps the motor spinning correct? cause i drove a rx7 with light weight one and it rev up faster but slowed down quick to.
jeff20b i respect you so much, and cant wait to hear that 4rotor fb. i wish i lived near by so i could pay you to teach me.:drool5: any more tips? i want to replace the ebay muffler with some thing cheap and i can install my self that will have a nice tone but not ricer.
i cant say this enough the gilmer kit is not as loud as in the video, just a bad mic.

The gilmer is probably as loud as an atkins supecharger with the 5 or 6 pk belt on their aluminum pulley kits. It can be deafening if the SC is new and you lean your ear next to it, but with the hood closed and normal driving, it just sounds like a little something. Probably just like a gilmer.
I like RB mufflers. As far as I'm concerned, it's RB or Borla and not much else. Maybe Rotary Engineering glasspacks, but I'm starting to tire of the noise levels, even it it's mainly bass-throaty like on my REPU. I'd prefer the sound of an RB dual pipe 'streetport' full exhaust system because it's quiet at idle, just fine at cruize and you can hear it when you get on it. Perfect.
Yeah, the 30 pounder can be easy to drive at times, but once you go through the learning curve with a light steel, you will love it and never want to drive a heavy flywheel again. Even the mild '83-'85 12A and GSL-SE flywheels feel heavy comparatively. I will say this though, my bro's RX-4 had a GSL-SE flywheel and was perfect while NA, but while it had the 5" supercharger, it felt like the old heavy stock 30 pound flywheel. Once the SC came off, it felt fine again. I wouldn't want a light steel for that car, unless it had an SC, because the vehicle weight is kinda highish and the rear diff gearing is very high at 3.636. My Cosmo is going to be the same way - similar vehicle weight, same tall diff gearing, but bigger (taller) 14" tires. I have a GSL-SE flywheel waiting to go in.
My REPU currently has a 30 pound stock flywheel which really sucks to drive, partially because the rear gearing is a little lower, and when there is no weight in the bed, the flywheel is just too heavy. Plus it has other problems like a leaky slave cylinder, grabby clutch that's worn out and has bad springs etc. It's a chore to drive. I have a new light steel flywheel, stock disc and SS pressure plate which should match the heavy duty stock pressure plate in pedal effort. Hopefully the stock disc won't be so abrupt and should allow towing and the reduced weight of the light steel will make a supercharger install a reality. The extra weight of the SC will add back what the light steel flywheel takes away and should allow easy shifts, like you said, and towing ability. That's my take on it anyway. I won't know until the new engine is built and installed.
Well, have fun with your gilmer.

i had two efan's mounted in front that where meant for a jeep. my brother was about to install one on his jeep and his friends. i was so happy i figured out my wiring problem i needed to hear the car run so i used them.the car was 90% stock before i took it off the road. only thing i did was msd coil's and ngk wires and plugs and a ebay muffler i put on because the stock one was rusted away.. now i have the complete respeed street suspension setup, and racing beat header mini muffler thing. i really wanted to hear the motor.
my wiring problem was solved by a 10 cent plastic washer.
i didn't have a plastic washer between the battery wire that goes to the alt, and a signal cleaner i think thats whats it called. it kinda looks like a round tube with a flange and a wire that goes on the same alt stud, the wire that goes to the battery gets bolted on.
my buddy who went to uti said he has seen them before. he said it prevent spikes or some thing. jeff20b probably could explain it better. funny how that was the problem with my car a washer.
iam trying to find a cheaper muffler that i can use to replace the ebay one. i want it to have a nice tone and not to loud, def not a ricer fart can.
jeff iam going to hit you up with a pm.
