rebuilding without removing the front cover?

is it do-able?

bought a S4 turbo block off a friend of mine. popped a side seal with only minor damage to the rotor.

since it was the rear rotor that went all he did was pull that side of the motor apart.

any problems with not removing the front cover?

i will, of course, replacing all the main seals (side, corner, apex are ok) and unusable rotor.

If the front hub bolt wasn't removed, the front stack should've stayed in place so yes, it is possible, in fact I've done it.

But, was the engine clamped? How many miles on the engine? It might be worth it, in fact it almost always is, to break the entire engine down and clean and re-clearance everything.

The oil pan is already off...
You really need to redo the seal in between the front oil cover and the front iron.
If not, you will be rewarded with an oil leak where the front oil cover meets the front iron meets the oil pan.
If you don't mind the dripping oil, then no biggie...
If you want your engines to be oil free underneath, then you need to reseal everything properly.

if your that far. Might as well do the whole thing. Personally I would not take
an engine partly apart, to many chances when your almost there anyways.

Not a particularly accurate analogy, but a valid point. Unless its a race only engine you'll be better off pulling it all the way apart.

it's funny people spent all those time and effort to pull the engine out, then they want to save a few bucks here and there ... and at the end that thing will cost them more than doing it right the first time.

I've been into these for over 15 years now. And have never only took
the motor partly apart. But it is also just my opinion. So do what you want.
Nothing may go wrong, but that’s just not a chance I would take.

cant believe this is still alive LOL

i will be disassembling the entire engine. just gotta figure out how to keep the e-shaft from turning.
