View Full Version : S5-SA teaser... and DGRR bound!

Today was a good day. "S5-SA" is up and running. What started as a stock s5 NA engine/stock harness/stock ecu build has turned into a full standalone and future turbo candidate. This is a '79 SA with a full FC subframe, brakes, and steering, and 4-5lug adapters in the rear with a Haltech e6k. It is a 6-port block with turbo manifolds, and TB.

There is a lot going on in this picture.

Expect a future build thread from jfaplanet and Rx8FCMel in the future.

Kewl.... Ditch the E6Krap and get a real ecu ;)

Budget wont allow a more expensive ecu... Maybe in the future. Still miles ahead of the stock ecu in terms of simplicity and control. Baby steps man! Baby steps! ;)

helltech e6krap is a step backwards though

e6k is rockstar. I got mine for $450 with a terminated FC harness. The software is ungodly simple to use. I'm able to run the software on a free laptop. It may not have the bells and whistles of your $5000 Motec, but it gets the job done just the same. :D

I run an E6k and I am saddened by the hate :(
It also came with the car years back ;)
works for me!

 If by rockstar you're referring to the hairbands of the 80's that we all laugh at now, sure... I'll agree with that 100% ;)

Hey now... I'm running a Haltech in the Turbo 'Vert. Stock turbo, stock... ish intercooler, ID 725/1000 combo, FFE trigger kit, stepper motor BAC, and datalogging out the cornhole. PS2000, I like the software, the wiring is not exactely the way I would've done it but I'm working on in... well, actually I'm working on the PS1000 we have going into and FB :suspect: and it's not the worst. Not tefzel but it will certainly do.

Soooo many better options out there without breaking the bank. My personal reason for the hate lies in the software, dated... MY GAWD YOU NEED DOS TO TUNE IT!!!!!!!! the trigger pickups aren't the best, the datalogging is comical, and the resolution isn't adjustable, etc etc etc.

I'll admit though, I'm biased. The first real experience I had with an ECU was the MoTeC V3... from install, to setup, to tune, to driving it for 4 years.

On the otherhand, we had a TII with an REW and a 4bbl TB, w2a intercooler, huge ass turbo etc etc etc... it took a while but I was able to get that thing tuned to start and drive like a street car on the stock ecu... so it's capable sure, but its still the e6Krap

Yeah it's a dinosaur, but it functions for me. My car had it when I bought it 5 years ago (didn't know anything about anything). Up until now it's the only thing that didn't break in the fucking car!

This day in age, anything is better though, obviously.

They are stout. I will give tham that, but aside from that the other thing I will give them is a .45acp sized hole

my friend had worked for an electronics company (leviton) and he had access to some neat things. he got me some really good SS braided shielding, so I used that on my car. The old computers were certainly questionable on their shielding, hence the "noise" issues with the CAS, but I was able to get around that.

TitaniumTT

CAS is inaccurate and sloppy. E6Krap can't interpret a motronic trigger on a rotary. That's reason enough for me to get a real ecu ;)

We're comparing apples and truffles here... Sure truffles might taste better, but they're also more expensive than my car.

Started it up with the new injectors and turbo installed. Next comes adding the BOV, wiring the gauges, and shakedown for tuning!

I like it. I like it so much that my project is right along the same lines, even the wheels are the ones I want. But you are taking it a lot further than I did, and the work looks better too. Well, maybe one of these days I'll follow down the same path with the rest of it. Sigh.

That last pic is my favorite, some of the best times with cars is just hanging back and admiring your work with some friends and spirits, lol... car looks nice. Did you spray it outside there? Single stage? Paint details please :) Plan to spray the RX3 with some OMNI single stage chevy white here soon.. hope my turns out as nice as that!

Base coat, GM Artic White, with 3 coats of clear with (house of color) white pearl and Lazuli blue pearl mixed in and then 2 coats of clear on top of that. Yes it was sprayed outside, some bugs, and some dust, but most will sand and buff out. It's not perfect but it looks so much better than it did. It's not a show car just a my toy.

I wouldn't dare try to spray anything outside here in Kansas. I'd end up with half of Oklahoma embedded in my paint. :001_07: Very nice job, it looks like you'll be making it to DGRR in style.

I love this. One of the coolest builds I keep track of. Very jealous. Whoever drives this much keep his or HER foot planted....enjoy it.
