Anyone had any issues with these going bad? I got mine back in December and I have a rattle that sounds like a can of rocks rattling coming from underneath the shifter. I am starting to think that the cat is bad, which makes me mad. Anyone have any other ideas?

Its common, the cats melt due to high EGTs. Luckily my magnaflow direct fit is still alive, knock on wood.

I still have my racing beat presilencer, I just have to get new studs welded into it because one is missing. So would you agree the can of rocks noise could very well be that cat giving up the ghost?

ours has held up perfectly as well for years now. Unbolt it and shake it. You'll know for sure in 30 minutes or less.

Paid through the nose for that part from RX7.com, the 3" version.
Burned up completely and blew oout on the dragon in approx 2000kms.
Never again will I put an actual cat on the car. The shell still lives under it though.
If you're running the car hard, and don't have an air pump - it will die quickly and make you wish you had your 250+$ back.

I have to ask, now that you said it, does the air pump keep the cat alive? I have my air pump installed and working, but i do worry my cat will die before i get any spare money to install a resonated race pipe.

blew my first one out driving through a "deeper than it looked" puddle during a monsoon of a storm. Now I just drive around on the hollowed one and only put my new one on for inspections. That rattle probably means the stainless steel wool packing that surrounds the core is no longer there and the core is just bouncing around.

So is it only the possibility of melting keeping people from keeping cats on their cars? Before a OBX(it was a gift) exhaust goes on Lucy I'm welding a Magnaflow universal 3" in. As polluting as these cars are I don't see the reason in not having one, unless you real and truly have a race car.
BTW, are the stockers monolithic or pellet cats?

Not having a cat is cheaper and flows better. It also allows you to remove all kinds of crap from the car that tends to cause problems (notably vacuum leaks).
