I am having several problems with my 93 rx7. I have had troubles with the thermostat reading hot and then going right back down to normal once it gets hot. This happens during normal driving or sitting still with the car running for a couple minutes. Also, if I leave the car sitting for more than two days, I have a really hard time getting it to start, if it even will. When it does start, it smokes really bad for several minutes. When I turn it off, it smells of gas for a while. And from time to time it will leak coolant. I have not been able to get the car to start all week after hours of trying, it will turn over but will not start.
Any suggestions would be helpful

The thermostat does not read or send a siginal to the gauge ,I opens and closes. The thermostat may need changing.Use a new one from Mazda not from an Auto parts store . I would also flush the system and clean the radiator inside and out . Next I would send the fuel injectors out for cleaning The may be leaking causing the motor to wash down be hard to start and smoke .Change the oil and filter and check the spark plug wires and coils and change the plugs for new ones .

I was having the same problem and my thermostat was bad. I mean really bad. Then I took my injectors out and my back injectors just leaked like no other. It was so bad that when I took the fuel line off the rail gas just dripped out. Good thing too because I had forgot to relieve the pressure off the line. I also replace my water pump just because I decided to replace and clean everything.

have your fuel lines checked carefully or just replaced. Have the gaskets around the injectors replaced. Do not overlook a fuel leak because it can lead to fire. As long as you smell gas there is a problem. Fires are not uncommon in FD3
