Hey guys I am in the process of relocating my Power FC Commander. I am using the cigarette lighter to hold the Commander. I am unsure of how the cigarette lighter actually gets power, does it need the physical lighter part to complete the circuit? I just want to take the necessary precautions so that it doesn't accidentally heat up and start a fire. Also is there a fuse I can pull that controls only the cigarette lighter.

Thanks in advance guys.

i'm sure you can unplug from the back of it

to unplug it, your best bet would be to remove the gauge cluster, good, cover, etc. It's only 2 screws and it pulls out pretty easy. from there, it's just a plug in the back. It needs a piece of metal touching the back and the sides in order to complete the circuit, but to be safe, I'd unplug it too.

Alright thanks guys, I suppose I'll try and just disconnect it. I know that there is no way for a wood dowel to complete a circuit, but i'd rather be safe :)

I'm guessing you are going to mount it like I have mounted mine (using a power adapter plug)...so if you are, just buy a power adapter plug that uses a fuse in it...remove the fuse and you are set.

yeah that's pretty much exactly what I am doing except that I made one up with an old broomstick and some sheet metal I had lying around. It turned out real nice with some matte black textured spray paint.

Ahh, cool idea with the broomstick. That picture is of my old FD, but I have done the same thing with my newer one...you will love the location of the commander.
