Pro's and con's of disconnecting the Volumetric Pump

Hi,
Every time I pop the bonnet something tells me the Volumetric Oil Pump set up is potentially a accident waiting to happen - ie, line coming off, dodgy wire wrapped at the carby end for adjustment, is it set correctly etc.

My question:
What are members thoughts on this? - and if they have choosen to remove the pump, what 2 stroke oil and mix ratio are you running?


I am not too concerned re the dramas at the bowser as I fill up from a drum at home....

People do it all the time, whether for assurance or when making power. I don't premix even with a slightly modified turbo II, but many people would.

Does your car sit for long periods of time? Loads of power? I'll let others and especially carb guys comment of type and amount... but really just any TC-w3 2-stroke specified.

Any TC-W3 rated oil should work just fine. I run Valvoline Multi-Purpose 2 Cycle since I can buy it by the gallon.

Most people recommend a 128:1 ratio, since that's an easy calculation in English units. I do a little extra since I'm boosted; typically it ends up being about 110:1.

Aussies have bowsers, not gas pumps.

Engine gets started usually weekly and holds minimal fuel in tank, so I dont mind fuelling up by hand.
Do those who run pre-mix usually remove the pump completly and fit a blank?

Any comments for someone who has completed this task????

Yes there are block off plates available, and just cap off where the lines go into the manifold.

It is as simple as it seems.

you don't even have to go through the trouble of removing your MOP if you don't want to. i usually do both (premix with my MOP) and i feel somewhat justified since the only times i really do maintenance (cleaning) to my MOP is with rebuilds. i just pulled an engine i got last summer apart and i'm fairly sure a part of it's demise was that the MOP was unable to do it's job. premixing could have given it more service time - oh well, for a change, it's my gain now. :)
