I recieved a rod yesterday, Delrin, for bushings. My wife is happy with me as I am :) Coming to these using a stainless steel sleeve model 16x2mm.

This is what it would look like, as common.

Then today I got to work hard because I do not have access to laser-cutter. Began to mill as deep as I dared, without them to come off, and the plate begins to vibrate and break the cutter. Then there has been much handwork! Good for me, to practice a bit. Continued on these!

Came up with an new idea about the Camber-adjustment. Simple to adjust with only one tool, and no need for deassembly anything around it.

4pc Ø30mm steel.
Did not have the possibility to use the CNC-lathe tonight, so it has been some therapy in the manual lathe.
M20x1.5 thread for streanght and good adjustments.

Ofcourse, later :)
They are 90mm long, and the thread is 65mm.
The thread is Ø20mm with 1.5mm pitch (M20x1.5mm)

Why not? What else could I've done?
When I was an apprentice in fitting and turning if I did not use a 4 jaw chuck on anything but "bright" (ground or machined) bar stock I was kicked in the ass :)
NOTE: If it not my machine, and I am in a hurry I too like you abuse a 3 jaw on black steel lol.....
Tegheim
07-19-2012, 06:47 AM
Then I'm going out on a limb and say it's bullshit :)
We use 3 jaw in our CNC-lathe, and all of the other manual lathes.
The only reason you want to use an 4jaw, is when to centre something that isn't at centre by it self if you know what I mean. But then we are talking 4jaw invidual.
I have worked in workshop for 10years, and have never heard of that you're saying:)
My "mentor" in lathe, have 25 years of experience, and have never done otherwise either.
You may have right, but they who learn you that, must have ment something else? For what reason?

Cause the parts are not round perfectly and the three jaws tighten on a common scroll/worm what happens is it stresses these, its basic theory, this is why on black steel you never use a three jaw chuck. Every workshop I have ever been in has been the same.
I agree with you and your boss though :) I basically never myself use anything but a 3 jaw :001_005: regardless of it being black or bright bar :icon_tup:
Tegheim
07-20-2012, 08:49 AM
Thats maybe what you are going to fabricate. When we have low tolerance on the roundness, we turn the chuck with 3-jaw first, then clamp our parts.
Almost any CNC-lathe I've seen have only 3-jaw-chuck.

It is slow and calm :)

Then weld all as much as possible before it is installed in the car to where also welded into the frame.
The sole purpose of avoiding weld so much in uncomfortable positions :)

Have some thoughts.
Do not know exactly how to setup my 4 rotor.
I can build a full throttle PP, much power on high rev.
Or perhaps a Semi-PP little more driveability, longer curves?
Or, finally, a complete side-port setup?
Sideport-setup takes som heavy mods on the FD-plates, but nothing is impossible.
I would rather not overcharge, but it might be a possibility together with the side port and low boost.
This first setup will not be a power-setup, it would be a road-legal-version if it's possible.
What do you think?
N.RotaryTech
08-26-2012, 09:26 AM
Go with the side-port setup.
I hate it when ppl get there 3 or 4 rotor engine for the first time and port the shit out of it.
See what its like with stock ports first, and play around with boost. Then later down the road if you still desire to port it, do so.
I've been keeping an eye out on this thread.
So once again, I'll give you props on your building skills.
Inspirational.

If its a drag car, might as well go all out...
Its its going to be a street/race car, might as well retain some driveability... all that work for it to be a hassle to cruise down the street seems like a waste.

side port intake, peripheral port exhaust. Can still make big power but be street drivable
Tegheim

Yes, "full" sideport as large as possible. Like the secundary maybe.
And then a little peripheral port, maybe 25-32mm :)

I would suggest that only if you could stage them. Side ports optimized for low/mid-range power and driveability and have the peripheral ports activate at higher engine speeds to really open up the top-end. Unfortunately that would call for one hell of an intake manifold: 8 runners for the side ports, probably merging into less, and another 4 for the peripheral ports!

It's tempting, but complicated :)
Last friday I recived some new parts.
1pc front, 1pc rear, and 3pc intermediate-plates from FD.
But I'm still looking for good housings... I have 2pc S4 N/A-housings that I can use, the other two are just for mockup.
The best would be to find 2 S4 N/A, or get 4 new ones...

It rolls on! Have got so far that I could push the cage down from the boxes and start welding.
We have a total chaos in the garage right now, it use to be pretty crowded, but now it's extremely ...
We've only 100m2 to share :)
Started with one side, it took a terrible time because I was terrified to grind too much every time. Think I lift up that pipe in place hundreds of times.
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz71/Tegheim/My%20Wolvo%20142/20121122_195609.jpg
Pipe number two took 10minuter :)
Suspect everyone is doing like this, but I simply took two paper and rolled around the ends of the finished tube. Templated by, measured the distance between the papers on the tube, and made sure the seams were aligned with each other.
Then I took off the paper, and turned inside out on the next tube. Mirror: D
Again, it was I who was a coward, leaving a few millimeters on the first try, but then I put on like a glove!

Have used the CNC Lathe to turn my bushings to all wishbones today. Also has a movie on this, but it is so cruel big, so I have to do something there ...
Acetal (POM), also called Delrin, and stainless steel sleeve which is internally reamed to tight fit the bolts.

What a stance that thing is going to have! I know this goes without saying, but you really are a rare breed of car enthusiast that can take on the building of an entire car, from scratch and not give up. I don't think I have seen another project that compares to what you're doing that isn't inside a professional garage with a team of guys building it. Keep up the good work man and I know we all look forward to seeing the final product.

Some lack of motivation. Thought I would be going mad when the car dropped down on the floor, but thats not what happend.
Yesterday I drawed my new rims in SolidWorks. I really like to just sit there and relax and draw.
I also checked out the weight of the rims. 8.08kg/each aren't bad for 19" I think.

Are you going to do the body work before or after your drop the final engine in?
Tegheim
04-13-2013, 11:43 AM
I think the outer body will come last. There is much to fit and build inside the car and around the engine. Will do that with the mockup I think. Then take everything apart and finish the outside of the body. Then paint, and re-assembly...
Havn't really thought this through. There is a long way left.

I have weight them, but all the newer rotors have the same weight. The 28cc in the comb-chamber are kind of tricky to check, or?
take a caliper and a flat piece of metal, mic the metal and zero out the gauge. lay the strip over the pocket and measure the depth of just the pocket and it should be very close to 10.85mm in depth and have a machined relief(the deeper the pocket is, obviously the lower the compression is). this is the measured depth for the 9.7:1 rotors.
turbo rotors also have a T stamp embossed into the oil relief vein area facing the center iron, n/a rotors have no T stamp, just a I and II for front and rear(which accompany the T on turbo rotors).
that said, the quickest and easiest method is just check the oil galley in the rotor for the T stamp(or lack thereof in this case) and make sure the rotor has a machined pocket for the series 5.
if you somehow managed to get renesis rotors they're a little less conspicuous with their scallops and thick side seal lands.

Thought I run with V-band instead of what is in the renderings. However, I must turning one half of the V-band myself, and it seems difficult to find the measure of it.
If anyone has seen it, or know how they should look like, I am receptive :-) Happy to metric! The tubes I intend to use is 50x2, ie 46mm internally.

I have been thinking about the intake. I would want to have tapered runners, but because "someone" decided to lower the entire body over the frame, there isn't much space above the engine.
This means that I have to make a turn on 156.5grd pretty tight around the engine and land on the block. The options are to cast runners in plastic, carbon fiber or aluminum perhaps?
Today I continued to mod my intermediate irons for more bearings.
First I layed a the intermediate and clamped it. Then either front or rear iron onto to indicate the centrum.

Moment of truth, or point of no return for these housings...

The original "oil-nozzle" must be removed before milling or else my tool, or my housing will be broken.

Started with a M10-bolt and drilled a Ø4.2mm hole to allign the drill.
Threaded M5, and pulled it out with some washers and a M5-bolt.

Yesterday I continued with my Peripheral-inserts.
Because they are threaded into the housings there is imported to get the D-shape in the right angle to align with the pre-machined D-shape in the housings.
The D-shape closest to the housing are bigger than the round hole and the runners, so therefore I need to machine this with the inserts on the side.
I could have done a round hole in the center, and port the sleeves by hand. But I'm really not a "handyman" :) And CNC-port are in my opinion the coolest.
It worked out pretty well! I was really nervous when I mounted the first insert...
I very satisfied.
Next is to deside how to couple the inserts with the runners, and also how my runners will look like, size and lenght. Butterfly-throttles or slides.

I want thin throttlebodys with no injectors, and also buttefly model.
Something like this...

Yesterday I got some mandrels from www.mandrel-bends.com for the intake-
2" 16GA with tight CLR.
Today I did the V-band-flanges for the runners. With a groove to stay concentric and also a little groove on the other side to fix the pipe in. Only 2mm deep, but tight, so it holds there when trying out the parts. Easier to weld also.

Long time no see, have done some small updates now and then on both Facebook and Instagram. I'm sorry, but it's so easy to throw in a picture and move on.
Lets do a throwback sunday.
I did a little test with my front fender. My wheels are to big, and the body is so much lower that I can't mount the fenders over the wheels today.
I let it sit there and sink in. The rear wheelarc will be a big challenge as well..

Then I moved on with the watt-link. Did some sheetmetal-parts in Solidworks.

Back to the 4-rotor...
I havn't done much, but some small thing here and there.
Have done the first part of my new centerbearings.

Have bought two AutoVerdi-drysump-pumps.
One will GusFD3s use on his Rx3-20B, and the other will I keep.

Started on the drysumppan and front cover that will be some billet-kind.

Havn't desided if the pan will be billet or sheetmetal, the sheetmetal have some advantage, but billet is engine-porn :-)
Did a test with wellpapp of the sheetmetal-version.
Very tight and small, easy to fit AN-12 into.

So, not much has happened, but still going in the right direction.
Can remind you of the facebook-page and instagram if you want instant updates without text :-)
But I'm trying to get better on updates here as well.

I did a little test with my front fender. My wheels are to big, and the body is so much lower that I can't mount the fenders over the wheels today.
I let it sit there and sink in. The rear wheelarc will be a big challenge as well..

Have you thought about getting two more front fenders, and stealing the wheel arches from those, to install in the back so that the arches match? The wheel openings on those cars were too small, it made the car look unbalanced and top heavy. Yours is a big improvement.
... but we love your descriptions of the toil and turmoil.

Yeah we need some updates. I'd love to see that it's finished, but this project is so in depth that any update would be cool haha.
