View Full Version : Beneficial gauges in a 13B

During the making of a new alloy console that will house additional gauges, I got to thinking... what aftermarket gauges are really of any benefit to the driver and not just cosmetic bling?
With Oil temp, Water temp, Transmission temp, Fuel pressure, Oil pressure, Battery condition, Amp meter etc available, what do other 13b owners believe are of true benefit to the driver and not just dash board bling?
I am not after a Boeing cockpit look, just want to add gauges that useful to a Extend Port 13B that is used for "spirited" road use.

Hey mate, I am not sure if I am getting old or just retarded but in my car i cant look at anything except the rev gauge and even then its only in 3rd gear, but I mostly shift by feel and the rev buzzer. But it does have 500bhp and shit happens super fast.
I say rev counter #1
Water temp #2
Warning lights for oil pressure #3 (blinks when under set minimum) off when at proper pressure works great!
AFR instrument #4 is a cool beneficial thing to have when tweaking your jetting in the carby and they are inexpensive now.
BIG REV COUNTER ! in the middle rotary style, all else is not really that important lol.

Hey Rice, like this?

Seriously though, I completely agree with rice. Warning lights and buzzers go a long way. They get your attention quicker than a gauge. Definitely get an AFR meter though. It is a very valuable tool for tuning. Takes all the guess work out of it.

1) boost
2) EGT
2nd tier: water temp, oil temp, oil pressure
3rd tier: fuel pressure, system voltage, fuel pump voltage
Everything else is fluff.
AFR gauge is a royal waste of time IMO.

I'd say similar to what Ted has said, just with a simple caveat.
1) Boost
2) EGT (one for each rotor)
3) Fuel pressue
4) RPM
5) Speedo
6) AFR (helps when tunning and troubleshooting)
7) Voltages (fuel pressure, etc)

I appreciate your comments.
Now for a "novice" question...
What is EGT?

For me this is what i have and feel being highly beneficial
1: Boost(of course not with a n/a car)
2: Wideband AFR.
3: Water temp(taken from the backside of wp housing. most accurate)
4: Oil pressure
5: Oil temp
6: Egt (taken pre-turbo)
7: Fuel pressure
8: Voltage
Also if your going to buy gauges save yourself the hassle and just bite the bullet and buy good quaility electric gauges.
Zack.
Where's TTT to say we should all watch EMAP.
